Welcome to Hadriel, new friends. While waking up on the ground of a broken colosseum may not be the most pleasant arrival, you can at least find comfort in the fact that there's no giant monster immediately attempting to eat you. Plenty of the people already here will tell you that they weren't quite so lucky. But - wait. Is that something moving in the shadows, or is it just your imagination?
Of course it's not just your imagination. That would be way too easy. No, arriving along with everyone this time are wraiths, vengeful spirits that enjoy darkness, shadows, and misery. On the plus side, they won't try to kill you. On the minus side, their touch chills you and saps your energy, as well as inflicting a temporary curse of awful luck. Anything that can go wrong, will, including (and especially) things that might kill you. Wraiths are subtle and sneaky, so be sure to watch your back. That shadow isn't just a shadow.
Compounding the confusion the wraiths can cause, you just might wake up to the sound of chattering voices - only to be quite alone. A small flock of jabberjays has come through the Door as well. These genetically engineered birds are capable of mimicking entire human voices and conversations - as well as screams of terror and pain. Initially only in the arena and bringing only conversations from their world, they'll soon settle throughout the city and begin to learn the voices of those living in Hadriel. Your best friend screaming bloody murder just a street over? It could be them, or it could just be one of these lovely birds. Don't let it stress you out.
Once you've escaped the colosseum, hopefully without accidentally impaling yourself on your own weapon, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers February 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well!
► All characters now arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
Mike Munroe | 2 Closed, 1 Open!
One minute, there'd been snow and biting cold and it was so dark and thick he couldn't see, how could he hope to get to the next street, much less his destination and then back home? He should turn back, maybe take one of the others with him-
And the next everything was clear, snowless and markedly warmer than it had been. But also cooler. Cooler than flames licking up his hand from his lighter moments before and the promise of searing heat to follow. That memory still felt like it happened nearly two months before, and yet it seemed like he could smell the gas and hear the nightmarish screech of the wendigos around him.
Looking around, his spinning thoughts came up with a few answers in the span of seconds: this was the coliseum, his hand and back hurt like hell again, something was moving in the shadows and it didn't sound or look like a nice something -in fact it seemed like a something he wanted no part of- and lastly, there was a gut-wrenchingly familiar girl standing only a few yards ahead of him. Closer to the shadows and one of those things.
"Em!" First things first: he couldn't let whatever was here near Emily.
Closed to those at the UD house
It was his first stop after finally making it out of the coliseum and the only thing that distracted him from his destination were the subtle changes in the city, changes that didn't seem like the kind to happen over night. Just how long had he been gone? And would anyone still be there when he got 'home?'
He hesitated only a moment in front of the door before turning the handle. Well, it opened, that was good, all in now.
He strode in, full confidence of a man who thought he should be there, he just hoped he wasn't wrong. "So, funny story: a guy goes out one day to pick some things up for his friends cause the weather's getting bad. Snow's blowing all around him, shit's impossible to see, when suddenly he blinks and ends up back in the coliseum with no snow storm." And burned to hell again like he hadn't gone to Bruce to get that fixed up, that was probably the weirdest part in his mind. He kept on, voice carrying but still only going so far as the entryway...just in case he was telling a bunch of strangers or even an empty house a bunch crap story. "Still trying to find the punchline, but I figure the set up's good enough."
Open to any and all!
He'd been smart before vanishing into thin air and stowed away a few supplies for safe keeping, some of those included stuff to tend to burns, just in case. It came in handy (hah) now when he had burns back on his hand. But now he'd done what he could and sleeping off his re-messed up back would just have to wait while he ran round playing catch up.
There were some people who'd been here before his missing time episode that he kind've hoped were still around (Z, the doc, that kid, hell maybe even a couple of the people he met first time he'd stepped out of the coliseum) and there were bound to be new people around as well since Josh was apparently now kicking around their place. Better there where they could keep an eye on him than somewhere else where he might get himself eaten or some crap.
There was also the fact that he simply didn't trust Chris to have kept up with getting everything they all needed, Mike wasn't even sure how his friend managed to find matching socks each morning, much less watch out for the girls too. So he went around quaint little Cave Town to see what was new and what was still where he remembered it and hopefully spot a friendly, if not familiar, face.
at the ud house if that's cool
"Not really seeing the humor in that, personally," she says, "but I have been accused of being a fun-hater in the past, so I may not be the best judge of that." She shrugs. "Let me guess - you must be Mike."

"It's in the whole 'gee things seem to be looking up, oh wait not anymore' part. Real funny how often that seems to happen." He flashed one of his charming grins even though he wasn't really feeling it at the moment. It'd be better once he knew where his friends were.
"You're guessing right, but I don't think we've met, I don't forget meeting pretty girls." The flirtation was easy as breathing even if he was feeling about as flirty as he was feeling humorous right then, but stick to what you know right?
"I'm looking for my friends, they used to live here. Chris, Ash, Sam? Any of those names ring a bell?"
no subject
"Nah, we haven't met. Chris told me about you, though. He still lives here, and the girls, too. I come over sometimes." Then, almost an afterthought, she adds: "I'm Nick."
Coliseum - i messed up the verb tenses! D: ignore them, i'll match in my next tag
And she herself is okay until the shadows start to move.
Her mind immediately jumps to believing the wendigos have made their way into the lodge, so she spends a few seconds standing stock still. But it's-- different, somehow. They're not screeching, not moving around to explore the space. And it keeps getting colder and colder.
Don't move, don't move, don't move, she tells herself, her breaths now shaky as she struggles not to wrap her arms around her middle to try and stop the heat from beig leeched out of her body.
And then there's a voice, and her mental chanting halts. She whirls to face him, and out of the corner of her eye, she sees something shifting, something not wendigo but very much sinister.
That means that she can run.
"Mike--shit!"
She dashes to him just as she sees a shadowy hand reach out for her, the chill tickling the back of her neck but not actually touching her. When she reaches Mike, she hides behind him, gripping his arm. For now, she'll forget about the gun thing. There are more immediately important things on her mind.
"What the hell!" What the hell is this thing, what the hell is going on, what the hell is this place. What the hell.
No worries! <3
"I don't know, Em, just stay close." His hand darted to one of his guns, but didn't draw it. Who even knew if this thing was gonna go down by that? And if he learned anything from his last time in the coliseum, there was no point in wasting his bullets.
"You see that archway to our left over there? Pretty sure that's a straight shot outside. Run."
no subject
Also, it meant he wasn't defenseless if she ran ahead of him. That seemed to be part of his plans, too, which was good. For once, they were actually on the same page about something.
"Goddamn." She said it not at him, more at this entire situation, and the fact that it was now abundantly clear that they'd escaped the mountain and landed somewhere worse.
Okay. Breathe. She looked at the archway he'd pointed out, and sparing another glance at him, she nodded and bolted for it.
Luckily, he'd been right about where it led, and as soon as she was through the exit, she found herself in... in the middle of a stone street, with weird-looking buildings not too far off, inside an enormous cave.
Rather than stay in harm's way, she moved just off to the side of the exit, ready to run if something came out of there to chase her. "Mike!" she called back inside. "Hurry!"
dat open prompt
She turned a corner and spotted a familiar face, one she hadn't seen in way too long. And in a place with no one from home to talk to, she would take all the new friends she could get.
"Mike!" She walked up to him, waving one hand high in the air. "Where've you been?"
Zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
"Honestly? No clue. Last thing I remember was being caught in a snowstorm while I was looking for stuff for my friends. Next thing I know, I'm back in the coliseum, no snow, with my Ex and another thing trying to kill me. So I guess all normal things, really."

Her view of what's crazy and what's not has been changed forever.
"Well, you missed out. People got buried alive a few weeks ago, and a lot of the rest of us had to try and dig them out before they ran out of air. And now there are these birds that talk like real people." She didn't suppress a shudder there. Somewhere in the city was a bird that knew her friends' voices. Not cool.
"I'm not sure if it's good or not for you that you're back here, but it sure is good to see you again."
UD house
His reaction is more or less the same as it was when he saw Emily. Josh is a little more stable than he was, the side effects of medication withdrawal fading, but he's not exactly the most stable person in the world. He probably never was. In this case, though, it just means that he's sort of taking things in stride.
"Hey, Mike. Sounds like a pretty crazy snowstorm."
no subject
"Josh. Hey, man, when did you get here?" And just how 'together' was he right now? He didn't seem too bad, not like before. "How long've I been gone?" It was asked more of himself than Josh, but it was asked out loud.
no subject
It's hard to keep track of the passage of time, sometimes. At least for Josh. He thinks it was at least a month - maybe two. Maybe more, but probably not. Long enough for things to level out a little, if not completely. Long enough for him to start getting used to this place.
"Yeah, Chris mentioned you were around, but I never saw you. Guess you've been gone about as long as I've been here."
