Event log: Who What Where Wendigo

Who: Everyone participating in the wendigo event!
What: The accidental-cannibalism-turned-horrifying-monster event that is the Who What Where Wendigo event!
Where: All around the city
When: Feb 14th-March 1st
Warnings: Cannibalism, body horror, evil monsters lurking around.

Don't forget to check up on the Wendigo Guide that Ami posted!

On February 14th, Rage and Fear decide to give Hope a little bit of help taking care of the residents of Hadriel - they'll provide some food for awhile. How nice! Except, of course, that there's an extra ingredient in this food. A can of beef stew? Yeah... that might not be beef. But hey, it still tastes pretty good! Unfortunately, some spirits slipped through the Door last time it opened, and they're ready to possess anyone who participates in cannibalism - even if they don't know it.

Anyone who eats the provided meat will be possessed by a wendigo spirit. Over the course of twelve days, they will transform into a monster that feels little but rage and hunger. While at first it can be explained away easily enough (people are super annoying, and isn't everyone a little hungry most of the time?), by February 18th, wendigo transformations are impossible to ignore. A few days after, on February 22nd, the anger and cravings of the wendigo spirit will overcome all other emotions, and possessed characters may begin hunting.

The physical and mental transformation will be complete by February 26th. The possessed characters will have lost themselves completely at that point. While physical healing (done by a character with Hope's blessing or another healing ability) can turn back the physical and some mental effects, they will remain possessed until death or until Hope removes the wendigo spirit - which can only be done on the altar of Hope's temple. So have fun dragging your angry, possessed friends there!

On March 1st, Rage does Hope a solid (because she feels sort of bad) and kills all remaining wendigos. Upon revival, the spirit will be gone and the character will be fully recovered. Hopefully no one holds what they did while possessed against them!

[ The wendigo doesn't really care about or notice the armor. It sees a figure walking, moving, leaving the inside and heading toward open ground. It - Cecily - adjusts slightly, alerted to her presence only by the warm streaks of movement in the distance.

Cecily crawls down the side of the building to the ground, drawing up to height, watching. Then, without much further ado, it scampers off after her, faster than most would expect, dagger-like nails gleaming on the ends of long fingers. ]

[It's a lot faster than Rey expected. Moves a lot stranger, too -- almost like an insect.

[She can't tell which person this one used to be, so the fact that this creature is someone she knows doesn't even occur to Rey when she turns.

[Not yet activating her Brísingamen, she practically makes herself open bait.

[And she mutters:]
Come and get it.

[ Rey wouldn't recognize her, not without knowing about the anchor. It isn't sparking now, anyway, and the monster studies her for a moment before lunging with a shrieking cry. The call to rip at flesh is strong, pulsing in her mind like the beat of an endless drumming, and she'll use razor nails, jagged teeth to tear the woman open, if she can. If not, she'll keep trying; there isn't much that can slow her down, at this point, and she'll give chase if need be. ]

[A chase is not what she gets. Instead there is a flesh, and a whoosh.

[When the wendigo leaps towards her, it will find its prey is on fire from head to toe. The life of the flames whipping around Rey as though she were a walking torch. If nothing else she could at least damage the creature's armor before it has the chance to rip into her own.]

[ Almost comically, the wendigo veers to the side, tumbling, still, with a bit of its limber grace. The monster snarls, backing away quickly, very careful not to get too close to the flames. Has it set itself on fire? She leans in a little, eyes searching, feeling the heat from where she stands. Danger. Pain.

She can't lunge into it, not now, but maybe it will still be alive when the flames go out. Salvageable. So, she waits, poised in case it produces more flames, but eager to snap up whatever amount of the prey might be left after. ]
circumitus: I should go check. (did i leave the oven on?)

[Despite all Rey has learned about these things, she doesn't hesitate before rushing at the creature, flames bursting from her armor. The oppressive heat does not touch her, does not harm her. She is practically a walking bomb. So it can either try and plunge into the fire to get at her, or run as Rey sprints towards it with reckless abandon.]

[ It's clearly not human, whatever it is, and the wendigo that was Cecily knows better than to leap into obvious danger. It likes being alive (and in a physical form) more than it likes the idea of risking all that on this flaming charge. So, she shrieks at it, but bounds away, still watching it from a fair distance, but not quite gone, yet. She's much faster than Rey, more agile, but deterred completely by its current state.

Did they all know how to do this? Would she starve trying to find a viable meal? ]
