Event log: Who What Where Wendigo

Who: Everyone participating in the wendigo event!
What: The accidental-cannibalism-turned-horrifying-monster event that is the Who What Where Wendigo event!
Where: All around the city
When: Feb 14th-March 1st
Warnings: Cannibalism, body horror, evil monsters lurking around.

Don't forget to check up on the Wendigo Guide that Ami posted!

On February 14th, Rage and Fear decide to give Hope a little bit of help taking care of the residents of Hadriel - they'll provide some food for awhile. How nice! Except, of course, that there's an extra ingredient in this food. A can of beef stew? Yeah... that might not be beef. But hey, it still tastes pretty good! Unfortunately, some spirits slipped through the Door last time it opened, and they're ready to possess anyone who participates in cannibalism - even if they don't know it.

Anyone who eats the provided meat will be possessed by a wendigo spirit. Over the course of twelve days, they will transform into a monster that feels little but rage and hunger. While at first it can be explained away easily enough (people are super annoying, and isn't everyone a little hungry most of the time?), by February 18th, wendigo transformations are impossible to ignore. A few days after, on February 22nd, the anger and cravings of the wendigo spirit will overcome all other emotions, and possessed characters may begin hunting.

The physical and mental transformation will be complete by February 26th. The possessed characters will have lost themselves completely at that point. While physical healing (done by a character with Hope's blessing or another healing ability) can turn back the physical and some mental effects, they will remain possessed until death or until Hope removes the wendigo spirit - which can only be done on the altar of Hope's temple. So have fun dragging your angry, possessed friends there!

On March 1st, Rage does Hope a solid (because she feels sort of bad) and kills all remaining wendigos. Upon revival, the spirit will be gone and the character will be fully recovered. Hopefully no one holds what they did while possessed against them!

[ The target is gone, invisible now that it's stopped moving. The wendigo knows the meat is still there, though, because prey is slow and the wendigo is fast. But it knows there is no sense in attacking blind. It kills its prey in one, swift stroke, not by groping around in the darkness. The wendigo needs the prey to move, but asking it will do it no good, and the wendigo knows that they prey froze when it screamed.

The wendigo knows these two live in a house with the man that moves slowly, lopsided. The slow man does not make good prey, but he is useful in other ways. The wendigo remembers its voice, and that's all it needs. ]

Don't be stupid. [ It says, in a voice eerily similar to Kazuhira Miller's. ] Come here.

[so that's what those kids meant by mimicking. john lets out of slow breath, fighting the natural urge to look and confirm it isn't kaz. he knows it isn't, miller did the smart thing and barricaded himself in his apartment. in a very hushed tone, john glances at lilith and speaks:]

We need a diversion. [because obviously the wendigo knows they're there, playing the waiting game. john knows the longer they try to wait it out, the worse the situation is going to be. they need to kill the thing as quickly as possible.] I can run one. You need to be ready as soon as I go.

[it's in her sights. even if she wanted, she couldn't look away from the wendigo if she tried. hearing kaz's voice coming from the wendigo feels bizarre, wrong-- and after a breathless few moments it's john's that breaks her gaze away from it at last.]

Gotcha. [like hell she wants to spend more time around it than is necessary.]

Whenever you're ready.

[and she certainly hopes that he is. if he goes down... well, she doesn't want to figure out whether she can take a wendigo on all by herself.]

[ The wendigo realizes its false voice does nothing. It is still blind, and that disadvantage makes it frustrated. The human wants to lash out, to scream and rage against its own anger, but the wendigo knows better. It freezes as well. Perhaps if it does not move, the humans will thinks, falsely, that they are safe. They will be wrong. The wendigo can be patient, if it needs. ]

[he nods, surveying the landscape around them for things to take cover behind. there's not a lot, but there's enough between him and their make-shift trap. he just needs to not get cut down before he gets there.

easy. he takes a deep breath, two--

and then he's off like a bolt, scrambling up from the ground and running towards a fallen piece of some old structure he can duck behind.]

[the plan's simple: somehow corral the wendigo into the trap, get in, detonate it all, get out. luckily, their method of detonation is lilith. if the grenades and the equally make-shift explosive they've slapped together aren't enough to seriously wear the creature down, the explosive aftershock of her phasewalk will be.

the moment that jack's off, so is she. he's given her enough of a start, so as soon as he's behind cover, she runs for the shallow rocky enclave the explosives are all planted in.

and, of course, she starts making noise. hopefully, it'll be distracting enough to draw attention away from-- well-- the original distraction. the window of time they have to take this thing down is narrow, to say the least.

Hey! Over here!
