Event log: Who What Where Wendigo

Who: Everyone participating in the wendigo event!
What: The accidental-cannibalism-turned-horrifying-monster event that is the Who What Where Wendigo event!
Where: All around the city
When: Feb 14th-March 1st
Warnings: Cannibalism, body horror, evil monsters lurking around.

On February 14th, Rage and Fear decide to give Hope a little bit of help taking care of the residents of Hadriel - they'll provide some food for awhile. How nice! Except, of course, that there's an extra ingredient in this food. A can of beef stew? Yeah... that might not be beef. But hey, it still tastes pretty good! Unfortunately, some spirits slipped through the Door last time it opened, and they're ready to possess anyone who participates in cannibalism - even if they don't know it.

Anyone who eats the provided meat will be possessed by a wendigo spirit. Over the course of twelve days, they will transform into a monster that feels little but rage and hunger. While at first it can be explained away easily enough (people are super annoying, and isn't everyone a little hungry most of the time?), by February 18th, wendigo transformations are impossible to ignore. A few days after, on February 22nd, the anger and cravings of the wendigo spirit will overcome all other emotions, and possessed characters may begin hunting.

The physical and mental transformation will be complete by February 26th. The possessed characters will have lost themselves completely at that point. While physical healing (done by a character with Hope's blessing or another healing ability) can turn back the physical and some mental effects, they will remain possessed until death or until Hope removes the wendigo spirit - which can only be done on the altar of Hope's temple. So have fun dragging your angry, possessed friends there!

On March 1st, Rage does Hope a solid (because she feels sort of bad) and kills all remaining wendigos. Upon revival, the spirit will be gone and the character will be fully recovered. Hopefully no one holds what they did while possessed against them!

[ she moves backwards, instead of towards the house. she watches, able to track Arya when she moves. should she follow? she's not sure she wants to follow into the house but the girl did say eat.

is she going to feed her? doesn't the girl know what she eats? ]

Eat at the table.

[ she's mimicking Arya's voice, because she can and because she's hungry and maybe there is some humanity in her that does remember. if she follows she can eat. when there's movement again, she darts into the house, past Arya and to the first hiding spot she can find, slipping under the table. ]

[ That's Arya's voice, except it's not. The pitch is slightly off, and besides, Arya didn't say anything. It's better that Cash is speaking with Arya's voice than her own, though. Arya can kill something that sounds like herself. Arya doesn't know if she could kill something that sounds like Cash.

Arya didn't expect the wendigo to understand her, but the fact that it did makes Arya's job easier. Arya grips her stick tightly and swallows, afraid of what she's about to do. But she knows she has no other choice, not at this point.

Arya follows Cash into the kitchen and shuts the door behind her. She's got to move quick: the wendigo shouldn't be able to get out, but that means Arya can't either. Arya darts towards the stove, passing the table, and switches it on. She puts her stick in the small flame, and hopes that it catches on fire before the wendigo realizes what's happening. ]

[ the door does pose a problem - it didn't take her very long to find out she couldn't get a door open, not unless she could knock the whole damn thing down.

there's movement towards the stove and then fire which Cashmere does not like and screeches loudly in warning. but the movement stops. she doesn't want cooked food, she wants meat - raw, bloody meat. she screeches again, this time hoping to startle the girl so she can see where she is and try to figure out what's going on. ]

[ Okay, wendigo, Arya gets it. You don't like fire. That's kind of the point. Arya creeps closer, slowly, and then when she's in range, she throws the stick at the table, setting it on fire and hopefully the wendigo with it.

Then Arya backs up against the other side of the room, trying to figure out how she'll get out of here. She wants to make sure the wendigo catches on fire first, though. Can't burn down the kitchen for nothing. ]

[ by the time she puts together what's happening, Arya is too close and so is the fire. the table is on fire before she can take off looking for a different shelter, frustratingly trapped by the chairs while the fire spreads wildly. everything happens all at once: she bursts out from under the table, the table collapses around her, and yes - the wendigo catches fire.

the next scream is different than the others - she's not trying to frighten anyone this time. she was tricked and she's angry. there's no way to put out the fire but the way she's flailing the whole kitchen will be in flames soon. Arya should get out while she can. ]

[ There's only one way out: the door on the other side of the room. And to reach that, Arya will have to get past the fire and the wendigo. Between those two obstacles, there's not much room left in the kitchen. Arya will just have to sprint through, and hope for the best. This is the part where she'd take a deep breath, except Arya doesn't want to inhale any more smoke.

So Arya just sprints, away from the fire, away from the scream. When she reaches the door, she has to throw herself against it once, twice, before the lock breaks and the door opens. Arya knows the wendigo will follow her, that the fire could swallow the whole house, so Arya has to move fast. She runs upstairs next, because the lemon cakes and the scarf are up there, and those were gifts from friends, from home. Arya's already risked her life today, she might as well go all the way. ]

[ smart girl - the kitchen is chaos, the wendigo screaming and thrashing about in a futile attempt to put out the flames. she does try to follow but doesn't get far.

eventually the screams die, overcome by the smoke and flames. if she remembers later, Cashmere will be glad Arya stopped her before she could do anything unforgivable. ]
