[Semi-Open] Clinical Trials (backdated to 9-9)

[Michael is feeling restless and generally bad after the whole future-mirror incident, which just further confirms his need to find something to do with himself. He needs a distraction. Lots of them, preferably.

When he talked with Carlisle, the only thing he thought he might be suited to was the clinic; being a guard is probably a bad idea, as convenient as it might be, and he knows nothing about bartending or sewing. So clinic it is.

It takes him a few days to get back to... "normal", and then to psych himself up enough to actually go do the thing. He makes his way to the clinic, though once he's inside, he looks maybe a little lost. Does this place have applications? Is there an interview process? Does he just... sign up? Eventually he'll wander up to someone with a sort of quiet:]

Hi, I was wondering about... working here?

[Rosen arches an eyebrow, looking up from his computer and taking in the sight of this newcomer]

Well we are always glad for more help. Do you have any prior experience working in a medical clinic?

[Cashmere mentioned computers being a thing, but it's still surprising to see one. With most of the city in ruins, the most technologically advanced thing Michael has seen lately has been the phones.]

Uh... not exactly. I do have first aid training and stuff- I went to med school. [He didn't finish, but whatever.] Just haven't actually worked with living patients.

Would you like to clarify?

[His voice is half-amused half-lost]

Yeah, sorry. [Thoughts are hard.] I'm an autopsy tech, back home. I went through pre-med, but I didn't get to residency. So... some experience?

It's better than most. Is there anything we might need to know about your ability to deal with high stress situations?

[He stiffens a little. Which maybe says more than he wanted it to.]

What do you mean by that?

[Rosen blinks a bit in surprise at the man's sudden tenseness. He hadn't thought that question out of left field. Then again in this cave one never did know]

[Wow, okay, calm down Michael. The way the question was worded before, the proximity to his statement about not finishing med school; he thought there was an implication. But there's no way this guy knows anything about that, so maybe he shouldn't freak out. Just a thought.]

Yeah, sorry, thought you meant... something else. I can handle job stress, if that's what you're asking. There's not a lot that bothers me.

Being a psychiatrist i'd normally prod you on what 'something else' might be, but I'm not taking patients at the moment as that renders this conversation in the non-professional. And as a non-professional that's none of my business.

[Rosen shrugs]

And also we can't be picky here. So if you have experience, are willing, and do well under stress then you are far better than what we could hope for.

If you don't take patients anymore, what do you do now? If you don't mind me asking.

[Rosen chuckles, lifting his arms and folding his hands over the back of his head lazily]

Well, when I'm not a psychiatrist I am still a fully licensed general physician.

So is this just more of an emergency clinic, or do you operate more like a doctor's office?

Well, you'll probably find that the people in Hadriel tend not to be the type to be too vigilant about check-ups, it pretty much has to be an emergency before they'll voluntarily come here. So I guess that would make this more of an emergency clinic.

Though as policy we do offer the what we can of the standard 'doctor's office' fare

Huh. You'd think people'd be all over free healthcare.

[He says, knowing full well he wouldn't come to the clinic himself unless he was dying. And maybe not even then. Oops.]

Though I'm guessing we have some limitations. Probably not a lot of high-tech equipment, right?

Try 'no high tech equipment. Period.'

[He casts a glance around the room, its about as low-tech as a clinic can get. At best there is his laptop and of course everyone's phones]

[Michael follows Rosen's gaze. Yep, that sure is nothing.]

Right. So we're at like, turn of the century levels, here? Do we even have modern medicines?

My recommendation would be to view this like working in a war zone, we are the equivalent of a refugee clinic.
