Intro Log: Death Comes

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for July.
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-15th
Warnings: Deathclaws. That's all you really need to know.

As usual, the new arrivals in Hadriel will be waking up on the dirt ground of the colosseum, and as usual, they won't be waking up alone. This month brings coat hangers of all shapes and, uh, sizes strewn about the colloseum floor around all of the new arrivals.

Get up, get out, meet and greet, find some new exciting interior decorating options, but don't forget about the more prominent threat: the (newly) local deathclaws roaming about in the inner halls of the arena. These deathclaws are vicious bipedal creatures with long arms ending in curved talons, horns ripe for goring and, of course, teeth as long as fingers. These animals have been engineered to be as deadly as they can possibly be, so you might want to buddy up before taking one on.

Have you escaped from the deathclaws? Made a few friends? Not died horribly? Great! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers July 10th-15th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

If you have friends, you should use your comm to ask if they are here, yes?

[The voice comes from below and a bit to the side and behind him, just as he starts walking. Everyone has to be looking for their friends when they arrive in such a place, unless they have non, right? And since he hasn't managed to try and paint all the names to the walls, he'll just have to go around and disperse this very vital knolwedge to all who will listen. Because friends and family are important.]

[ He turns when he hears the voice, looks down... Ah. A child. A human (so far as he knows, whoops) child. ... He's more than a little surprised this kid isn't running from him on sight, to be honest. He's also wondering what the hell this place is that there are children apparently getting trapped here, too. But he won't question it just yet. The boy mentioned asking about friends. That's more important right this second. ]

Comm...? What are you talking about?

[ He also hasn't yet found the thing - sitting on the ground, right next to where he woke up. Not that he'd know what to do with it, or that it's even what he's talking about. He's never known anything like that. ]
muscovy: (that would just be silly. yes?)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-10 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That.

[He points at it. After all it was sitting right next to this strange man (an Elf? Perhaps) when he was still on the ground.

...This raises and interesting problem. What about people who cannot identify a communicator? Writing onto the wall the names of the residents and the note to contact them by communicator will not help when they cannot even identify the device.]

[ Leave it to Kou to raise problems, whoops.

He blinks at the phone, walks back over to pick it up and look it over. He's clearly never seen anything remotely similar in his life, but at least he's a fast enough learner. He'll get the hang of it in time. For now... ]

So I've been dragged here against my will, given this thing, and my friends might be here? What else can you tell me?

This building is a part of a town that stands in a big cave. There are small caves leading away from it, but you should not enter them, because there are many monsters in them that will try to eat you and you will only get lost and return here.

...And if you see a foggy area you should not go there, either, because it is not nice, too. Nor are the temples, because they make you feel feelings that aren't yours. But the food and other things in the stores are free, and you can live in the houses and flats that are still empty and don't have to pay for that, either.

[That sounds like about it. The most important pieces.]

[ Hearing that escape attempts through the caves only circle you right back here is pretty discouraging. (Some sort of illusion or labyrinthine magic, perhaps?) ... But of course, he's probably going to try anyway, at some point. ]

Sounds like nowhere is nice - or safe. [ Figures. ... He nods, and hey, he even tries to give the child a small smile. ]

Thank you for telling me all of this. Have you been here long?
muscovy: (like a school portrait)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-12 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Only for one month. But my big brother has been here a lot longer.

[Rey too, from what he has gathered, but since he's not allowed to call her his mother anymore he isn't sure what he would refer to her by. There are a number of other people whom he knows to have been here longer than he has, but the point that he meant to make was that people can stay here for longer, and that the source from which he has this information is one that he trusts.]

And there are safe places. Most of the time, everything that has been fixed up is safe. And if things are bad, the temples are still safe.

[Probably. At least that was true last month, and he assumes that it would be repeated in the future.]

But the temples are not very nice so you should not go there if you don't need to.
onetrueprince: (and leave no trace of evidence)

[personal profile] onetrueprince 2016-07-13 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, at least the kid has someone to look out for him. Still, he doesn't like the sound of people being stuck here for long. That doesn't bode well. ]

Right. Because they make you feel things you don't actually feel. Magic?
muscovy: (Is that so?)

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-13 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Or science.

[The two are not that different, in his opinion, just that you need more additional equipment for science than for magic most of the time. It's just knowing how to utilize what is there and where to push for it to get moving, and to most people both are very mysterious.]

oh my word the days got away from me, i'm sorry!

[personal profile] onetrueprince 2016-07-16 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ To kou, they're separate - but in the same way heads and tails of the same coin are separate. And the two are a forbidden to be mixed, in his world. Not that that's stopping a certain horrible woman he knows. But that's neither here nor there. ]

Hm. I haven't known gods to use science when magic suits them far more.

[ It's a curious thought, though. ]
muscovy: (just watching and listening)

no worries, I can backtag forever

[personal profile] muscovy 2016-07-17 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
The gods say that the door isn't theirs. That is why they can't stop it from bringing people in.

[He doesn't necessarily believe it, but if that is true, then the door being based in science and not magic might even explain some why the gods can't fix it. Though it is just as likely that they don't want to fix it, even if the door could be fixed or even was theirs.]
onetrueprince: (i am losing you again)

[personal profile] onetrueprince 2016-07-17 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess it would be too easy if they controlled the door.

[ Admittedly, Kougaiji is curious about their intentions - and whatever motive lies behind all of this in the first place. But above all else, he's going to be wondering for a while if there are ways to get the door to work the other way... ]

Maybe they were brought here by it too and can't leave, and only tell us that one of the gods that still sleep might be able to bring us back because they are afraid of what will happen if we don't think that there is a hope to leave of our own choosing.

[He doesn't sound particularly bothered by that. Because he isn't. He's with family here so it is nice, family that he wouldn't have back home, and if this place is like the others no time passes back home, so he's not missing anything there.]
