What: The event log for the Bad End event
Where: All over the city!
When: August 23rd-September 5th
Warnings: Bad futures, awkward conversations, smashed mirrors
You wake up to find a mirror at your bedside - a pretty nice one, too, a silver hand mirror perfect for fixing your hair in. Only when you try to do that, it's not your gorgeous reflection that you see. It's something else - a terrible future, just about as bad as anything you could imagine for yourself.
Maybe you see your loved ones dead on the ground, and you know it's your fault. Maybe you see the goal you've been working so hard for pulled out of your reach forever. Maybe you see someone you've hurt in the past ruining your life. Maybe you see your hot girlfriend leaving you to shack up with your worst enemy. Whatever you see, it really sucks, and you know that it's possible. This future could happen if you make the wrong choices, give in to your worst impulses.
Break the mirror if you want, but you'll see the same vision in any reflective surface in the city. You can't break them all, but you can sure try. And what will you do when you see your best friend's vision - and it features you betraying them?
Seek reassurance, give reassurance, lash out, vow to yourself that you'll never let it turn out that way, sink into the depths of sorrow because you feel like the future you see is inevitable. Whatever you do, it won't take away those visions - not until the event is over.► This log covers August 23rd-September 5th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you can't handle the idea of your dark future, or maybe you just accidentally slip and fall on a mirror shard, let us know here.

Me too. I know it's not real but I wouldn't have thought this place was real either. So it's hard to not entertain the nightmare fantasy. [ she pauses. ] Did you try breaking yours?
no subject
Yeah, it's a little distracting. [Ah yes, understatements.] And I didn't. Should I have? Does that make it go away?
no subject
I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to get some aggression out. It shattered but there are still reflections everywhere. [ she holds up her right hand. her thumb is bandaged. ] And I cut myself.
no subject
Right, I figured as much. They wouldn't make it that easy for us, would they?
[He's not feeling especially sociable at the moment (though when is he ever), but it's at least time he doesn't have to spend sitting around thinking about things. He gestures to her bandaged hand.]
Have you had that looked at?
no subject
[ she considers her hand again for a moment. she hadn't thought about having anyone else look at it, but now that she considers the kind of shit that's happened in Hadriel before... ] You don't think it's going to turn me into some sort of weird monster, do you?
no subject
[That's an option? He hopes that's not an option.]
I just meant, if you cut yourself on glass, it might be, I don't know, serious?
[He feels like he made a misstep here but he's not sure what it was.]
no subject
Oh. Good. I thought you'd heard something I hadn't. [ and sensing the awkwardness, she explains: ] This place isn't normal. There was once when the gods gave us food from home. Anyone who ate it turned into a cannibal monster. It makes me suspicious.
no subject
[That... explains the wendigos someone was talking about...]
Well, I'm sure this is fine. I mean... that kind of fine. If they wanted to make sure people turned into monsters, they'd probably make it easier. Right?
[That's probably supposed to be comforting.]
no subject
That's probably true. Maybe the worst I have to worry about is having a scar from my own stupidity. [ that she can probably deal with. ]
What are you doing out here, anyway?
no subject
Shopping, I guess. [He shrugs.]
Ran out of food. I probably should've picked the orchard, though. [Less reflective surfaces.] And... you?
[It's usually polite to ask the other person the same thing they asked you, right?]
no subject
Do you mind some company while you look for dinner?
no subject
No, I don't mind.
[He minds a little, maybe, but it's not personal. He's just in a weird mood. He starts to walk again, allowing for Cashmere to follow.]
So how long have you been here?
no subject
Uh - it'll be two years soon. I used to think we might get out but I don't think so anymore. It starts to feel like home after a while. A weird home that toys with your emotions, but home all the same.
no subject
[Two years? Michael definitely does not think he can take two years of this. But then, it was fine before the whole mirror deal.]
Then I guess you would probably know: how long do these... things usually last? The toying with the emotions things?
no subject
It's not always horrible. Nice things happen. We got the mopeds, for example. And if you do them favors the gods will do things for you. Fear is an asshole but I'd rather him be around than the Null. I think they'd just kill us.
no subject
Yeah, at least the gods seem to bring people back when they die. What kinds of deals do they make? Like, what do we get out of it?
no subject
If you can describe how it's built, they can probably make it.
no subject
Or was this something you and Chris agreed on?
no subject
[ she pauses. ] He's a nerd, but a likable one.
no subject
I've talked to Chris. He seems nice. We made a pact to pick on his friend Mike if he shows up again. [Since she's been here long enough, maybe she knows who Mike is.]
So which gods are best to ask for things? Or do they all give different stuff?
no subject
Hmmm.. [ she considers the gods for a moment. ] Hope is good at just about everything. I like Delight, too. She's best to ask for things that are fun. Hope is more practical. Fear acts tough and he's kind of an idiot but I don't think he wants us to die.
no subject
Fear though, I heard some people actually died during one of his... things. They probably came back, but still.
no subject
Look what he did to me! Whatever you do, don't die because you'll probably be left disfigured. [ it seems like she should be joking, but she's not. this is clearly a very big deal to her. ]
no subject
Is that, uh, were you hurt there? Is it like a scar?
[Or do people just... come back Wrong, slightly? That's more worrying if true. What happens if you die more than once? Missing fingers?]
no subject
[ good advice in general??? ]
