Warnings: Bad futures, awkward conversations, smashed mirrors

You wake up to find a mirror at your bedside - a pretty nice one, too, a silver hand mirror perfect for fixing your hair in. Only when you try to do that, it's not your gorgeous reflection that you see. It's something else - a terrible future, just about as bad as anything you could imagine for yourself.

Maybe you see your loved ones dead on the ground, and you know it's your fault. Maybe you see the goal you've been working so hard for pulled out of your reach forever. Maybe you see someone you've hurt in the past ruining your life. Maybe you see your hot girlfriend leaving you to shack up with your worst enemy. Whatever you see, it really sucks, and you know that it's possible. This future could happen if you make the wrong choices, give in to your worst impulses.

Break the mirror if you want, but you'll see the same vision in any reflective surface in the city. You can't break them all, but you can sure try. And what will you do when you see your best friend's vision - and it features you betraying them?

Seek reassurance, give reassurance, lash out, vow to yourself that you'll never let it turn out that way, sink into the depths of sorrow because you feel like the future you see is inevitable. Whatever you do, it won't take away those visions - not until the event is over.

Oh. Well, that sucks. [not said unkindly. George has little experience with love, but even she realizes that it's got to be painful to love someone who doesn't feel the same

winces in sympathy] Ouch. I guess 'cause they're gods and we're just people, it would be--awkward.

[ 'Ouch' is right, George. Though Rose has... gotten used to it. It wouldn't be the first time she fell for someone that she couldn't have, honestly. That actually seems to be the running theme of her life. ]

It's fine. But, yeah, it'd... be problematic, definitely. For one thing, they don't even reproduce like we do so.

[it's beginning to be a running theme of George's as well. she has mild crushes on two people here who already have partners. so she's in for some heartbreak]

I guess it would be. I mean, what would he do when he needs a power up? He'd wind up having to hurt you, too, and that would suck. But, how do they reproduce?

[ That's what polyamaory is for! ... If only more people she was interested in were polyamarous as well. Alas. ]

He already does that, and I don't mind.

[ Which. Says a lot about her, honestly. ]

I don't know. Tranquility told me it was a really personal question.

[George hasn't yet admitted to herself that she likes girls as well as boys, polyamory would just boggle her mind]

Yeah, I guess it would be. They might look like us, but they're not us.

No, not really. That's what's being called a masochist! Though I always pegged myself as a sadist... I don't know, maybe I'm just a sucker for the tall, dark, and mysterious.

[Lord knows George could use one]

Sadist as in [her voice turns uncertain] someone who likes hurting other people? [her voice gains a little more certainty] And, jeez, who isn't?

[ Rose is always happy to lead people down the path that rocks. ]

That would be it. And get off on it, too. [ Rosie, oh my god. ]

That's my type for guys, I guess. Or the doofy ones that make me laugh. For ladies though, I like... sunshiney types. Warm. Bonus points if they can hold their own.

[ That's fine! It took Rosie three years to get where she is today, so. ]

I spend most of my time in the orchard helping out there. I also go to the tunnels a bit.

I didn't know you fought. Why is it that everyone here other than me knows how to kick ass?

It's not something I exactly advertise, honestly. Don't see the need to.

[ Though Rose raises a brow at that. ]

Not everyone. But you're talking like you can't learn.

I guess going around talking about it might get people to wanna challenge you or something.

Something like that. It's better that people underestimate you than overestimate you too.

Well, we all start somewhere. Got any fighting styles you like?

That's a good point. That way, no one knows what to expect.

I always liked martial arts movies.

Totally. It's a great ace up the sleeve, to have people underestimate you.

Martial arts is an easy place to start. I'm good at Muay Thai and Aikido but they're way different styles, so. It's more about what you wanna' do.

And they'd definitely underestimate me. I'm just, y'know, short. And blonde.

I wanna be able to kick as much ass as I can.

Exactly! Us short blondies gotta' stick together.

Well, then, we'll work on it. Just let me know when you're free and maybe we can start meeting up for regular sessions.
