Event Log: Party Royale

What: The event log for the Party Royale event

When: September 22nd-29th
Warnings: Paintball, loss of consciousness, and partying!

As is par for the course in Hadriel, at some point throughout the day- waking up, making breakfast, doing laundry- you find an item. This isn't just any item though, it's a tried and true paintball gun, shining and just waiting to be picked up. This gun never runs out of ammunition, never malfunctions, and almost always hits the target that you're aiming at, so say hello to your new best friend for the next week.

Touching or picking up the gun will fill you with a competitive surge, which will likely increase when you find the note that's left with it, saying nothing more than be the last one standing. With instructions like that, how could you lose?

Well, you could lose if someone else shoots you. But never fear, there's a plan for that too! Even if you embrace the throes of unconsciousness, the gods have got your back and will eventually teleport you into a grand party where prizes will be handed out based on how long you survived. Awesome! At this party is also the traditional copious amounts of food and drink, as well as everyone's favorite goddess Delight and everyone's slightly-less-favorite goddess Rage!

Not that Rey is one to talk. The last thing anyone wants to see is her own barbaric eating habits.

"Can think of better forms of revenge, and they don't involve baked goods or Twister."

She throws up a hand, waving at his comment dismissively. "Hey, not knocking on the 'box itself. Actually have a copy of Queen and it'd be nice to have something with an actual sound system to play it on."

Assuming that the disc and the jukebox itself are compatible. But with this place where technology hardly matters, she's sure that Delight could make it work.

"Disco ball? Hell no. Could just get Alphys to make one of those." She pauses, bringing her hand to her mouth and mutters to herself: "Shit. Should talk Alphys into making a disco ball."

The lizard lady already helped make the light show at the bar. Might as well.

"Yeah. I don't know them, but it was an accident. They didn't mean to." Otherwise Nico would have probably turned them into a ghost.

Rey doesn't need to elaborate; Nick knows. While he wouldn't set the world on fire if something happened to her, he'd be damn sure whoever did it got what was coming to them. He could tell himself all day long it was about justice, but when it comes to Rey -- to his family -- it's more than that. It's personal.

And in a lot of ways, that's the real scary part about all this: it's not the people who were being influenced by the gods who were the real danger, but those who would retaliate against them. Gods or not, some folks just want to protect their own. Nick can't say he doesn't feel that himself. On top of that, there are those who would pretend they were being controlled and use that as an excuse to get away with anything, even cold-blooded murder. Sato might not be around anymore, but there are still plenty of residents in Hadriel who Nick would keep an eye on if he could.

"Some folks haven't been around as long as we have," he returns, his eyes back on the streets ahead of them. "They don't remember the first time something like this happened."

Really? You weren't gonna brag?

[He looks so very convinced.]

How long did you last? [He's pretty sure he already knows the answer.]

[He makes a face at the mention of the gun. Yeah, true, neither of them would have much use for a firearm, but it's pretty uncool that the gods were handing them out, anyway. Why would anyone need a handgun here?

But he'll gladly accept the change of topic.]

Fuck if I know. I think it's more of the emotion leeching. Rage and Delight, and I guess this is a "welcome back" party... It makes sense, even if it's a waste of time.

I'm not much for parties in general, but especially the ones I can't leave. I'm not here for anything I'm forced to go to.

Very sure. It's a lame prize. Hayden took me out on the first fucking day.

[He's a little bitter, but mostly he's just laughing about it now. He's glad Delmar likes the bear. Harlan knew he would.]

My cat would just tear it up in a couple of hours, anyway. That'd be a terrible fate for this guy.

It's whatever. Probably for the best considering the paintballs knocked us out.

[He'll never not be bitter, but he did avoid a lot of bullshit, probably. Like, apparently he was just unconscious for a couple days? Freaky.

He looks down at his bear.]

I don't know about that. This bear is pretty stupid. I'd rather have gotten the booze or the candy. Fuck, I'd take the stupid pajamas over this.

[He would've been a raccoon and it would've been great??]

[Harlan's just dicking around on the outskirts of the party, which is what he's been doing since he got here. He's so bored, ugh. When are they gonna be able to get out of here? He's a bit grumpy when Kyna heads over, but not at her. He's just sick of this.]

What do you mean?

[He knows that the paintballs knocked people unconscious (obviously), but he hasn't realized that stirred legitimate panic among some of the residents.]

Why Hope? The party's for Rage and Delight. And, sure, they're leeching, but the party is a legitimately nice thing they're doing for us. You still think that's bad news?

[Granted, he's just playing devil's advocate here. He doesn't like parties and doesn't want to be here regardless.]

Why don't we go sit down and chat about this some more? [He nods toward a cluster of empty chairs away from the crowd. As hilarious as this is, it's probably best for everyone if Malkus is, uh, contained.] You should drink some water.

Come on, you gotta sing. We've been over this. And song choice is important. What're you thinking?

[He's never backing off about this.]

Hm. He did say he was in the army, so... [But he makes a face.] I can't see Del camping out on a rooftop and picking off chumps on the ground. Army or not, he's too soft for that, y'know? [Not that that's a bad thing.]

I figure it'll match his lamp guy. Sciante would just destroy this thing immediately, anyway. Which would be great for me because it'd give her something to do, but I have a feeling Hayden would flip.

[He's got all these delicate souls in his life now. Gotta look out for 'em.]

[Wow, this dude is even cocky about cantrips. Ugh.]

[And no, Harlan did not win. He's carrying around his crappy consolation teddy bear, which is a dead giveaway. He grips it a little more tightly.]

I was trying to show Hayden how to use the gun and he shot me on accident. [Ergo, he never had a fair shot, so making fun of him and/or boasting is totally not applicable!!]

Uh. [He scoffs.] You're not at the top. Plenty of other people "won". The prizes are stupid, anyway.

[He's totally jealous of all the other prizes, truth be told, but the trophy/gun combo is hardly better than his bear. He wanted the booze or the candy.

...Speaking of booze, though. He's the biggest party pooper of all time right now, but this twin does seem more entertaining than her brother. He's curious about these elves that can somehow use the same magic as him.]

Fine. But dancing's off the table, so don't get your hopes up. What're you drinking?

It's times like these that makes their situation all the more dangerous. When people harbor more resentment for the gods, the more likely they are to find the alternative more appealing. If that happens, then they don't have the consolation that Hope will always be around to fix the damage his family stirs up.

Rey's shoulders stiffen, tucking inward as she jams her hands back into her pocket. She knows that the Null aren't a better option, but not everyone has the same sense to know what they're dealing with. They have shorter memories, or they haven't been around long enough to get it.

"We just can't afford to get comfortable anymore... if that was ever possible in the first place." Rey was never comfortable with the idea of death and resurrection, even as someone who has died many times herself; there's always that chance that this life will be the last. "Just because something hasn't happened before doesn't mean that it's not probable. If something happens to Hope, then all this casual talk about people not staying dead is moot, and they're just risking lives for no reason."

Then again, so are the gods.

Lips pursing, she mutters, "I'm happy you're still around, or I'd feel like I'm just yelling at a wall."

You're doin' a good job of that for now, but for how long?

[He jumps out and runs to a different spot for cover - without firing. Hoping to maybe throw her off. he's ducked down behind a small rock formation.]

Hey, there's always room for improvement. And exercise will help your mood, too! It's too easy to get depressed in this place, for obvious reasons.

And unless ya wanna fight monsters and get really lost, yeah, stay out of the caves. It can be anywhere from hours to days until you find your way out again.

If Rage feeds off pure annoyance and frustration, she'll be stuffed after this. I don't know about you but I'm not exactly feeling delightful.

Thanks. So did you actively participate, or did you just wait it out and end up with a gun?

[Raidou's thinking the latter, since he doesn't sound like the gun type, but now that he knows of the compulsion that happened...]

Well you-- [The kid has a point. Still, this was unacceptable.] You could have just, uh, held on to it for later or something! The next time monsters get out of the caves or coliseum, you'll be thinking about that perfectly good gun you threw away. Hold on to it. Or at the very least, trade it. Plenty of people got like, houseplants or animal pajamas that I'm sure would be up for that.

[Wait a tic. How'd he even win this prize?]

How'd you even win this if you don't like guns? Did you just hide all week or something?

I dislike the idea of a god of confusion. It seems as though addling the wits of people here further is a poor idea. [shudders} I can think of many things preferable to being buried alive.

[Marg would probably go into a panic if she was buried alive, freak out, and use up all of her oxygen in the process]

No. There was nothing. Perhaps because I already had. . . doubts about the Faith of the Seven.

[George shrugs] I don't know about everybody. I only found out 'cause of what I am.

[being a Reaper, George sort of falls within their jurisdiction?]

Here's what I don't get. We'd talked a few times before and it was friendly enough. But he was fucking determined to take me out.

That's the problem. We have no way of knowing what that next time might be. Only that there will be a next time.

Yeah. I guess all of this [gestures around herself] good-time party stuff is good for one of the gods. Why else would they not let us leave.

From over there. [points at one of the tables] They already had 'em made, so you can just go over and get one if you want it.
