If it's your first time here, congratulations! You get the lovely, unique sensation of eating dirt as the Door knocks you facefirst into the ground. You'll probably be a little woozy at first, so take your time getting up- meet some folks, introduce yourself, don't be weird about it. Welcome to Hadriel! You're not the only person who just got to taste alien dirt firsthand, though- there are several people in the same predicament as you, so feel free to say hi! Probably shouldn't spend too much time talking though, because the lovely trees that you thought were just scenery are starting to creep ever closer the more you let your guard down.
All around you is a forest of spooky evil trees- it seems to be just a normal sort of forest at first, but the more you take your eyes off of them, the more they shift around you and close in. Or is that just your imagination? If you move too close to one, look out! They're rather determined to pick you up and stick you into the ground so you might take root- and if you resist, well, a severed bud can still serve as a seed, right?
If the trees tear your clothes though, don't worry, there's plenty of extras to be found lying around the arena if you don't mind them being a bit dirty. Lying on the ground and sometimes hanging off of these tree branches are some free shirts, yours for the taking! You know, if you'd be caught dead with one...
But hey, after you've met new friends and found a new aesthetic, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers October 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
2. trees
He doesn't expect it to be a kid, and doesn't expect the cursing that comes out of the boy's mouth. It's not terribly surprising, and entirely justified, but still.
Why does Hadriel keep dragging children into its bullshit? ]
Get down!
[ The boy obeys and Drake rushes past him, swinging his axe, the blade plunging deep. He nearly loses his grip on it as the tree reels back and retreats. Drake breathes out, turning back to the kid. ]
...shit, kid, your arm.

It's with some awe that Eddie watches Drake striking at the tree hard enough to make it retreat. If he could do that then half of Derry's problems would be solved. All Eddie can do is take another mouthful from his inhaler and just hope he doesn't suffocate as he tries to catch his breath.]
Thanks. And it was like that before I got here it's okay I guess...
no subject
For now he reaches out and grips the kid's shoulder, urging him back into motion. They need to get out of the forest, Drake can't keep playing whack-an-elm indefinitely. ]
We've got healers here, you know. You don't have to keep that thing on.
no subject
The hand at his shoulder is enough to get Eddie moving again as his breathing starts to become regular again. Drake doesn't need to tell him that getting out of the forest should be a thing, in Eddie's opinion they should have left it way back when.]
Healers? [ The pause Eddie gives is dubious at best.] You mean doctors? And I have to keep this on for a few more weeks before it's healed up.
no subject
No, I mean healers. Like they lay their hands on you and the injury's gone... it's pretty amazing, I've had it done.
no subject
Sounds fake if you ask me, if there were people who could do that then there'd be no-one with diseases or anything like that. There'd be no doctors either.
no subject
[ Especially since things like monster trees happen monthly. One reaches out for Eddie and Drake swings hard, knocking the branch back. They've gotta pick up the pace a bit, hopefully that inhaler puff is lasting the kid. ]
You think you're okay to run?
no subject
[ For the first time, Eddie sounds actually excited by something. The possibilities are just about endless right now! Maybe they could fix his asthma too!]
I can try. I want to be out of here faster, you know? [ Eddie can run, sometimes he'll sound like a kettle starting to whistle but for the most part he's okay. His gym teacher had said as much to Eddie's mother, it was Sonia who had announced Eddie could not.]
no subject
[ Drake nods seriously when the kid says he'll try -- the trees are officially stirring, too many for Drake to play whack-a-branch comfortably. He pulls ahead into a jog, keeping an ear on the kid's breathing and an eye on their surroundings. The city proper is almost visible through the forest ahead of them, they just need to get there. ]
What's your name?
no subject
[ A couple of sessions sounds great to Eddie to be honest. It's kind of embarrassing to be walking around with a cast that has LOSER scrawled across it. Sure, Eddie's tried to fix it changing the S to a V with red pen, but it doesn't lessen the blow any.
The sound of trees rustling snaps Eddie's attention back to the present as he does his best to keep up with Drake for the time being. There's so many trees around them right now if they all decided to attack they'd both be doomed. Luckily they can see what Eddie assumes to be a clearing up front; he may be okay jogging now but soon enough his breath will start whistling again.]
Eddie Kaspbrak. Yours?
no subject
[ Drake hustles through the trees as much as he's comfortable with -- sure he could pick Eddie up if they really needed to run but the last thing they need right now is an asthma attack. ]
Drake Holloway. [ They break through the treeline into the shopping district, and Drake slows to a stop to check on Eddie. ] You good?
