If it's your first time here, congratulations! You get the lovely, unique sensation of eating dirt as the Door knocks you facefirst into the ground. You'll probably be a little woozy at first, so take your time getting up- meet some folks, introduce yourself, don't be weird about it. Welcome to Hadriel! You're not the only person who just got to taste alien dirt firsthand, though- there are several people in the same predicament as you, so feel free to say hi! Probably shouldn't spend too much time talking though, because the lovely trees that you thought were just scenery are starting to creep ever closer the more you let your guard down.
All around you is a forest of spooky evil trees- it seems to be just a normal sort of forest at first, but the more you take your eyes off of them, the more they shift around you and close in. Or is that just your imagination? If you move too close to one, look out! They're rather determined to pick you up and stick you into the ground so you might take root- and if you resist, well, a severed bud can still serve as a seed, right?
If the trees tear your clothes though, don't worry, there's plenty of extras to be found lying around the arena if you don't mind them being a bit dirty. Lying on the ground and sometimes hanging off of these tree branches are some free shirts, yours for the taking! You know, if you'd be caught dead with one...
But hey, after you've met new friends and found a new aesthetic, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers October 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
Lake
Despite how human he might act most of the time, Nick Valentine knows good and well he fits into the 'distinctly non-human' category along with people like Oscar and Glacius. It's bothered him less in Hadriel than one might expect, but it does mean he prepares himself for receiving an odd look or two when he patrols, particularly on those days when there are newcomers making their way through the Door. He steers clear of the Colosseum these days -- a good thing if you ask those who worry about his health -- as he finds plenty who need help on the streets.
Where he finds someone who needs help this day is the lake, though he's not sure the kid in question realizes it just yet. Nick catches sight of him at the water's edge on his periphery, and though he can't see the teenager's face from where he's standing, the synth beelines over to give him a warning.
"I wouldn't get too close to the edge if I were you," Nick states as he meanders over. "Not unless you want to pick a fight with something that's got tentacles and a whole lot of teeth." He keeps his pace slow, well aware of how some folks might perceive a strange, mechanical man sneaking up behind them, especially if they're new to the city. Nick has been around long enough to know better than to spook people, especially if they might be new to Hadriel.

The sight of the guy is kind of reassuring, honestly. Evan's not entirely sure just what he is, on first glance, but he's the kind of different that feels pretty normal, to be honest. From the looks of him, maybe some kind of cyborg? He's not so far off from Mr. Deathlok, though they'd obviously have been built by different organizations. On the other hand, maybe it could be a mutation--a really unusual one--or some kind of inhuman thing. (Outside Bobby's boyfriend, it's not like he's got all that much experience with inhumans to go on.)
Regardless, it feels like a great sign right then. A taste of a Hadriel that's maybe even weirder than he realized. If there's one thing Evan's good at, it's weird.

"We had an explorer go down there a few weeks back," Nick explains, closing the distance between them, his glowing eyes on the darkness stirring in the waters below. "He found a bunch of skeletons down there, as well as something he said was half octopus, half shark, and all trouble."

Either way, weird. And too bad that it has to be less than friendly. He can't help thinking of Krakoa back on the school grounds--in the school grounds? Even after a few years' acquaintance, it's hard to know how to describe a sentient mutant stretch of grass and dirt.
"Thanks, sir. I don't really want to be fish food today." He puts out a hand. "I'm Evan."

The kid seems friendly enough, so Nick gets the obvious observation out of the way: "I take it you haven't been here very long."

(Not that that's a bad thing, really.)
Cyborg or robot (android?), the man's quick on the uptake, and Evan nods, not too sheepish about it. If it gets him pointers in the right directions, he can't mind too much about looking like a tourist. "Just got here today. Is there anywhere else I should look out for?"

"Unless you're looking for a fight with some of the other uglies that have come through the Door, don't go wandering in the caves." He cocks his head back, gesturing toward one of the walls of the cave all around them: there lies one of the exits out of town and into trouble. "The folks running this place sometimes offer up trades for dealing with what's out there and keeping it from coming in, but I don't recommend anyone go out there alone, no matter who they are... not that that stops some people."
Like his own family here in town. Her heart is in the right place, but that doesn't save Nick from worrying.
