What: The intro log for October
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.

Warnings: Newbies, spookies, and evil trees!

If it's your first time here, congratulations! You get the lovely, unique sensation of eating dirt as the Door knocks you facefirst into the ground. You'll probably be a little woozy at first, so take your time getting up- meet some folks, introduce yourself, don't be weird about it. Welcome to Hadriel! You're not the only person who just got to taste alien dirt firsthand, though- there are several people in the same predicament as you, so feel free to say hi! Probably shouldn't spend too much time talking though, because the lovely trees that you thought were just scenery are starting to creep ever closer the more you let your guard down.

All around you is a forest of spooky evil trees- it seems to be just a normal sort of forest at first, but the more you take your eyes off of them, the more they shift around you and close in. Or is that just your imagination? If you move too close to one, look out! They're rather determined to pick you up and stick you into the ground so you might take root- and if you resist, well, a severed bud can still serve as a seed, right?

If the trees tear your clothes though, don't worry, there's plenty of extras to be found lying around the arena if you don't mind them being a bit dirty. Lying on the ground and sometimes hanging off of these tree branches are some free shirts, yours for the taking! You know, if you'd be caught dead with one...

But hey, after you've met new friends and found a new aesthetic, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Taako's found that the people in charge of this place tend to restock ingredients- or the things that pass for ingredients- in the shops come new arrival day, so he's here too, inspecting a variety of cans.]

That's what they call it. Can't say it is, but like, it's something you can put in your mouth, if that counts.

Ah... if it must count, it counts. Better this than to starve, n'est-ce pas?

[But only barely better. Ugh.]

Though it's cruel to abduct us to such a place! Where is the sky and the sun? I'll wither away for certain.

Oh, yeah, natch. You uh, kinda get used to it after a while, but it doesn't really stop being terrible.

[He looks over the other man, trying to judge if this information will be of any use to him or not, but if he's complaining about the food, it might be.]

If you're lookin' for fresher stuff, there's live fish in the lake. And the orchard grows fucked-up plans. They look weird but they cook the same as most common fruits and veggies 'n stuff. Spices too.

[Interest piqued. Look, France is confident in his ability to turn things into delicious meals! No matter what the produce looks like he can figure it out. So long as it isn't poisonous.]

That would be a start, certainly! Could you show me? If there's something better than this shelf of canned disaster... that would be some small comfort.

[He raises an eyebrow, grin spreading across his face. Oh, he could just give it away easily, but what fun would that be.]

I mean, I could, but you're gonna have to owe me for this one, bubbleh. A chef givin' away his prime ingredient stock is heavy biz. But I guess I could share, provided you slide somethin' ol' Taako's way.

[Altruism is dead!! France will have to mourn it, clearly. A tilt of his head.]

I am afraid I have nothing much to offer. I've only just arrived. I could offer to cook you dinner, of course. I have quite a knack for it.

[French cooking is the best of all cooking! And France is accomplished in the kitchen.]

[Now at that, he looks interested.]

Oh yeah? What kinda stuff do you cook, buddy? I mean, I know whatever's available, but what're your favorites?

[He would so not be against some good food he doesn't have to make.]

All sorts of things. French cuisine is the best food the world has to offer.

[Everything French is the best thing. Ask him. He will expound upon it quite happily.]

As for favorites, mmm... Coq au vin is lovely if you've the time to spend. Ratatouille niçoise if there is no decent meat and you want something hot and comfortable. Ah! But baking is important too. No meal is complete sans pain. And nothing beats a freshly baked baguette...

[Now he's making himself hungry. And homesick.]

[Oh shit, those are words he knows, and he lights up at the mention of them.]

Dude, coq au vin is baller. Ingredients and prep are a pain, but what good stuff isn't, you feel? Gonna warn you, getting flour here is a real pain. It's a fuckin' crime.

[Alright, alright, he's in on it.]

Okay, tell you what. I'll show you around the orchard, give you the good ol' Taako tour, and i exchange, you show me what you can do with it. Capiche?

Even flour is denied us? These monsters....

[THE WORST. But France will figure something out. He is a thoroughly adaptable person -- in the kitchen. Maybe only in the kitchen.

He does brighten a little to nod in agreement.] D'accord. We have an agreement!

[He grins, making a gesture with his fingers for Francis to follow him out of the shop.]

It's Taako, by the way. Y'know, from TV.

[As if that means literally anything here.]

Hmm? Ah... is it an American program? I don't watch much of those.

[Don't mind France he's oblivious to so much of his world.]

But it is an honor to meet you, regardless. I am Francis Bonnefoy. [Look he even remembered to use that name instead of introducing himself as la republique francais. Progress!]

What's an America?

[It's alright, TV doesn't even exist in his world. He just won't stop saying it.]
