Event Log: Dreamwalker the Second

What: The event log for the Dreamwalker part 2 event

When: October 14th-20th (the second log will go up on Oct 23rd, please keep the two weeks of the event separate!)
Warnings: All different kinds of dreams falling under the umbrella of Delight, Rage, Sorrow, and Hope.

This time, the weird stuff doesn't happen when you're awake- as a matter of fact, your waking hours are the normal ones. That's because you're forced to sleep by some unknown entity, getting more and more exhausted by the moment as night falls. Better make sure you're always around a soft pillow.

Once asleep, it doesn't get any less weird- your dreams will be influenced by one of the four gods that make up the first week. Something to make you smile, something to make you angry- or something that reminds you of your deepest regret or most vulnerable hope, they're all things that you're dreaming about now for some reason, no matter how hard you may try to pull away from them.

To make matters more complicated, there are others intruding on your dreams who definitely don't belong there, and while they may seem like manifestations at first, it becomes clear that these others are actually the consciousness of other members of Hadriel, getting some top quality exposure to your angriest, happiest, most sorrowful moments. Hope it doesn't get awkward when you see them tomorrow...

[Elena gives him a quick, light round of applause. Very impressive.]

We could do that. Or we could corner him and threaten to punch his lights out if he doesn't tell us what he knows!

[It's probably going to be Elena doing the punching, for height reasons.]

Right!

[ Angus grins at her and clenches his fist in DETERMINATION! ]

I'm glad you agree! Just let me know if you get too tired, I can give you a lift!

[ Did he just wink at Alphys? More importantly, were his pupils dragon-like slits, just for a second? ]

[ He returns the applause with a sweeping mock-bow, and turns to jog towards the next building! ]

Oh, the good-detective, bad-detective routine? I'm not sure Caleb Cleveland would approve, but... we can try that if he gives us any trouble, I guess. I take it that you'd like to be the 'Bad Detective', given your immediate interest? I'm not much for punching.

Alright, alright, Pons system.

[ He waves a hand. He'll probably forget that term immediately. ]

Ah, let's see. Would you believe me if I said I'm a phantom? Do you guys have phantoms?

But...if we don't fight, then...

[Mettaton is cut off by the sound of a voice echoing across the arena. A familiar voice, but definitely not one that Napstablook would know of.]

If you don't fight, then I'll make you. Stop wasting time, robot.

[Mettaton stiffens, glancing at his cousin helplessly.]

I'm so...so sorry...if I don't do something...he'll make me.

[He takes a few steps closer, but not because he wants to. He has no idea how to make Napstablook realize he has to. This...really had to be a nightmare, right? It wasn't real.

[The science is on lockdown because the science has teeth, Newt. Or a lack thereof. The science has a gaping void that he's gonna meet pretty soon. Regardless, Alphys just looks at the floor, hands knit together, not knowing quite what to say.]

I... I just. Nobody should see this. It's bad.

[A pause, as she takes a step inside. Newt can see her footprint in a layer of dust just beyond the door.]

I'm bad. What's back here is my fault.

[She looks back towards him, like she's going to say something else, but doesn't, stepping forward into the dim.]

[Michael gives him a Look.]

I'm not giving it back. I'm not dumb.

[... In fact. Michael pulls his arm back and heaves the shovel across the yard.]

I assure you I can be the most accomplished of 'bummers' when I wish to be.

[It's harder when his wine's run out, though.]

I would rather they find happiness. I don't want to think that being tied to me was all that was keeping them from that.

[Michael is pretty sure nothing is like the Visitor, exactly.]

It's some kind of spirit. A demon, maybe? Hell if I know.

[The creature screams again and does an angry little circle, swiping a lamp off a table like a toddler throwing a fit.]

You've seen a lot of ghosts? Do they ever turn into things that aren't people anymore?

[Napstablook can only stare helplessly back. Being made to fight... and it didn't look like it was for some kind of show. Some man was addressing him in such a derogatory way.

What was this awful place?]

[Michael tries not to read anything into Law's sudden posture change. He can't think about it too much.]

It wants justice or some bullshit like that. It wants to eat people, but only people it thinks deserve it. Which might mean something, except it's standards are kind of subjective.

[He's not bitter you're bitter.]

It is definitely not alright.

[He's whispering, but it's harsh.]

What the fuck is going on here?

[Of course, he isn't going to pause their escape attempt to demand answers; even as he asks, he's looking for a good way out.]

[ Why?

That's such a loaded question, why. Why does anyone do anything, really? Because they can, because they want to? When Rose thinks about it, she's not sure.]

I thought I would die if I didn't, [ she says, which seems hilarious in this moment.] But then I realized I'd rather die than keep hurting people. So that's why.

[ That's why she's here.]

They'll heal in time. They always do. If this weren't a dream, she'd probably scar though at least. It'd be a reminder of Bianca and the shame, the guilt of murdering her as well. She remembers all of them though, even without marks to recall. Every single light behind their eyes she's extinguished, every taste of blood on her tongue. Rose will never forget.

You're dreaming, the strange woman says. She talks about a place this Rose doesn't know. Yet, there's a pang of familiarity maybe. Hadriel. Hadriel, where has she heard that before? "You're lying," she says, emphasized by another swift slash of her claws and snap of her teeth.

They always lie. Rose has done it herself, even. Anything to win. Anything to live.

[He doesn't pour her a glass himself, of course, but rather gestures a servant over. In moments, they both have elegant flutes of champagne.]

That sounds awful. I wish that we could help - famine is not something Arnes has needed to protect itself against. I can only imagine the suffering of the people.

[But this is a Delight dream, so...]

There's little you can do about it now. You may as well enjoy yourself.

[She accepts the offered fruit, bouncing on her heels with excitement.]

[ Curufin is still on his knees. When he stops gasping from the pain, he looks up and sees the enchanting beings that represent his soul. And a little, tender smile comes to his lips. He recognizes them. They belong to him. He is responsible for them.

And thus, he starts to struggle in his chains when the lovely images are impressed upon the stone. ]

What are you doing????? Do not harm them!!!! Let them go! They are innocent! They did not choose to reflect my soul, it was imposed upon them without their consent!

[ And he responds with a snarl to Seto when the priest refers to him -- or perhaps his ka -- as garbage. ] Oh, the priestly garbage is going to dispose of the Elvish garbage, eh? You have as mean a spirit as I do. I wonder what your ka would look like? Would you care to bring it out and show it to us all?

I know. You are right. I know. There is just... so much at stake. [He doesn't really know what else to say on the matter. He just sighs, looking up at the stars again, trying to imagine that one day they will not be so far away.]

Justice. [snort. A useful distraction!] In my experience, most justice is subjective and arbitrary.

He is used to it. I think it has grown on him. He prefers rock. [She shrugs.] I find it makes home life more interesting. You and your husband must also habe different musical tastes, right?

I'm sure Caleb Cleveland knows his stuff, but some guys only respond to punching, and I'm the only one who can reach high enough to punch. No offense.

[Ellie and Elena. Ha, this girl is cute.]

Only if I get to be vice-president.

[One of the giraffes bends closer, apparently spotting the fruit in Ellie's hands.]

I bet that makes for some interesting meals.

[Especially if they require more dexterity than stirring.]

A little bit, yeah. He tends more towards '80s rock and I like instrumental stuff better, but we've managed to find common ground.

Yes. My daughter is only five months old.

[And it hurts to be away from her, so much so that even Delight's influence can't dull the ache.]

We named her after my mother. So, when I look at Delphinus, I think of them both. I am... glad to be seeing it now. I miss the night sky very much.
