Event Log: Dreamwalker the Second

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Dreamwalker part 2 event
Where: In your dreams
When: October 14th-20th (the second log will go up on Oct 23rd, please keep the two weeks of the event separate!)
Warnings: All different kinds of dreams falling under the umbrella of Delight, Rage, Sorrow, and Hope.

This time, the weird stuff doesn't happen when you're awake- as a matter of fact, your waking hours are the normal ones. That's because you're forced to sleep by some unknown entity, getting more and more exhausted by the moment as night falls. Better make sure you're always around a soft pillow.

Once asleep, it doesn't get any less weird- your dreams will be influenced by one of the four gods that make up the first week. Something to make you smile, something to make you angry- or something that reminds you of your deepest regret or most vulnerable hope, they're all things that you're dreaming about now for some reason, no matter how hard you may try to pull away from them.

To make matters more complicated, there are others intruding on your dreams who definitely don't belong there, and while they may seem like manifestations at first, it becomes clear that these others are actually the consciousness of other members of Hadriel, getting some top quality exposure to your angriest, happiest, most sorrowful moments. Hope it doesn't get awkward when you see them tomorrow...

► This log covers October 14th-20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you die in dreams you don't die in real life, but if you somehow die in real life anyway, please let us know here.

They are.

Too sensitive, actually, because soon as the sound hits she's howling along with it. There's a displeased rush of a noise from the spectators close enough to be affected by it; they're getting their money's worth, of course, but at what cost?

The wolf woman's knees buckle and she lands harshly in the dirt. She uses her hands to cover her ears as if it'll stop the pain. Ugh. Should've known, she curses herself. Mages and their tricks. They always had something up their sleeves, always something crafty at the ready.

Nice. He grins a bit, immune from the sound, and swings his head to find the goddamn door on this place. He's only got a bit before she recovers, and he needs to be long gone by that time. He blinks out of existence one more time, this time bolting for the door that took him in. It's unfortunately going to be damn obvious what he's doing, not because they'll see him run, but because it's once again going to be loud.

He makes it to the doorway and knocks his knuckles against it, sending out a much louder sound than that motion would usually constitute. But nothing clicks. He pulls and pushes at the thing, smacking his hand against it with his palm and cursing. Great. Should've known this wouldn't let him off easy.

He turns quickly to where Rosie is probably recovering, tallying how many more blinks he has left. Easily half gone. He might actually have to kill her to get out.

Aw hell.

Taako can try but Rose is certainly not an easy one to kill. Not if the way she's already rising after the sound assault is any indication. Her ears are still ringing but she claws her way past the disorientation and straightens back up. Her pace is a shuffle at first, trying to work past the way her head's buzzing and body rebels but she's coming back to herself with each step and picking up speed.

She catches that knock, the subsequent cursing and frustration. He's stuck. How unfortunate for him. The woman dashes again, a blur to the eye, and will make the move to grab onto him wherever she can. His hair, his clothes, anything available to be hooked onto by her claws will be. He's too dangerous ranged to allow him to keep darting around; and, of course, she's much deadlier up close.

She surges at him again and he reaches for the other spell, trying to disappear again, but he's lost his concentration on it as he's running out of ideas and she closes the gap. Unfortunately, his clothing isn't tight, and chances are her hit isn't glancing, and he can feel his heart beating thick in his chest.

He needs to keep her away, and he panics, shoving his hands out towards her as a surge of electricity rolls out from him, accompanied by a thunderous boom and a wave of force (Con save, DC 18, 19 dmg full/9 dmg half). If she wins, she's still got her hold; but he's hoping he can get that fifteen feet of distance and buy himself some time.

Mages, she thinks again bitterly, as she feels that surge of electricity buzz through her. The woman snarls at him soon he casts it. It's more intimidating than anything, however, as it hits her harder than she expects. Despite digging her heels into the dirt, the wolf woman is thrust backward almost involuntarily.

It's the lingering feeling of shock, however, that has her stalling. He's not one of the keepers, this isn't a magical tasing when she's misbehaved. It's just some slick magic wielder trying futilely to find a way out. Still, it buys him time. He might be able to get away yet while she's warring in her mind for a moment.

Even a second is enough. He can't keep blinking again, he's already almost out of those slots as it is. He needs to do this smarter, not harder. He needs motivations. He needs to figure out what the hell is going on. He won't die here- he won't, he refuses, fuck this- but he needs to make sure if he wins he won't be stuck here for forever, too.

He looks towards Rosie directly and casts detect thoughts, skipping past the subtleties and directly into whatever he can grab. Maybe she knows a door out, or a way he can escape.

On a surface level, there's anger. Raw, fresh, powerful anger. It permeates almost everything in her mind currently. But digging deeper finds that it's not him she's angry at. Rose's rage is fueled by the circumstances, by the crowd cheering, by the feeling of entrapment.

And that's what she thinks, that she's trapped in a cage of their design. It's either her or him. The only escape for either of them is death. She doesn't know of any doors or any other way out beyond that. Unfortunately for him, she's not ready to die just yet either.

By the time he's gotten that glimpse into her mind, she's charging again and this faster and more forceful than ever. A second wind, looks like, spurred on by adrenaline and a desire to win. She'll go for vitals now; however she can, she's gunning for his weakest points. The jugular is always the easiest for Rose both literally and metaphorically.

For all of Taako's internal discussions about trying to play this smart, he knows this was a stupid idea as soon as the information starts coming in. This is hopeless. If she knew how to get out she'd have fucking done it.

The problem here is it was a distraction. He needs to ready another spell, think of something to do, and she moves too fast for him to track. The barrage of information- between her thoughts, his, and the crowd- is too much, and she slams into him without even time for him to put up a defense.

He goes down hard, feeling her having torn his neck nearly open, instinctually grabbing at the wound and trying to ignore the dizziness from where his head smacked on the way down. Even if he tried to get out of here now, tried to Blink somewhere, every thought comes hazy, and his concentration is limited. His staff, still gripped in his arm, isn't going to help that focus either. In a desperate attempt, a shimmering, translucent hand appears and grabs onto Rosie, attempting to chuck her across the stadium (dc 25).

The taste of iron on her toungue makes her feel nauseous almost immediately. It's visceral reaction to the warm, red liquid that seeps between her teeth and down her maw. There's some small fraction of her, however, that also feels the slightest sliver of relief. It's over.

That is until something suddenly hoists her up and off of him and she's being tossed back. It doesn't send her entirely across the stadium like intended. Perhaps he's too weak or his aim was off. Whatever the reason, she lands a few yards away and rolls to minimize the impact. Adrenaline is starting to fade, leaving a quiver and weakness to her limbs thanks to the realization that she's claimed another victim.

"I had to," she says, whether or not he can hear her. It sounds like she's trying to convince herself as much as him. Whatever else she might say is lost in a haze as Taako's life slips out through the gash in his neck and Rose finds herself startling awake. She's drenched in sweat, her heart racing, and through it all she just feels-

Rage.

The spell dissipates too quickly, and he doesn't have the strength or ability to lift his head or even figure out if it worked. His hand is clenched tightly at his neck, but he can't figure out if that's what's stopping his ability to breathe or the fact that the blood is still coming through too strongly. He can't even feel it, a few moments later. He can't feel most of him, and he coughs once before it's over.

This isn't the first time, thankfully so, that Taako's died. He remembers the more recent ones more vividly; the sensation of being crushed in a cave-in, fire consuming his entire body and the pain lasting only seconds, the ground giving out from under him and falling, falling, unsure of if he hits anything below before it's over. But it's the slow ones like this, that do it. The ones where he can feel it.

He wakes up coughing, gripping his own neck so hard he can see the imprint of his thumb the next morning. But it doesn't matter. He's died plenty.

Just another day.
