Event Log: Dreamwalker the Second

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Dreamwalker part 2 event
Where: In your dreams
When: October 14th-20th (the second log will go up on Oct 23rd, please keep the two weeks of the event separate!)
Warnings: All different kinds of dreams falling under the umbrella of Delight, Rage, Sorrow, and Hope.

This time, the weird stuff doesn't happen when you're awake- as a matter of fact, your waking hours are the normal ones. That's because you're forced to sleep by some unknown entity, getting more and more exhausted by the moment as night falls. Better make sure you're always around a soft pillow.

Once asleep, it doesn't get any less weird- your dreams will be influenced by one of the four gods that make up the first week. Something to make you smile, something to make you angry- or something that reminds you of your deepest regret or most vulnerable hope, they're all things that you're dreaming about now for some reason, no matter how hard you may try to pull away from them.

To make matters more complicated, there are others intruding on your dreams who definitely don't belong there, and while they may seem like manifestations at first, it becomes clear that these others are actually the consciousness of other members of Hadriel, getting some top quality exposure to your angriest, happiest, most sorrowful moments. Hope it doesn't get awkward when you see them tomorrow...

► This log covers October 14th-20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you die in dreams you don't die in real life, but if you somehow die in real life anyway, please let us know here.

[Nico raises his eyebrows at the swiped lamp.] Is it always like that or is it just especially cranky today? How long have you been dealing with it?

[At his questions, Nico's mouth curls up in a wry smile.] I've seen more ghosts then I'd probably be able to count in a lifetime. Some of them turn into things that aren't quite what they were before, yes.
aroundthecoroner: (had a power)

It's always like this. [Worse, actually.] And... a while.

[He watches the monster continue its mini-rampage, starting in on the couch, shredding it with its long claws and teeth.]

Good to know that things like this have happened more than once. [Ah yes, sarcasm.] Why've you seen so many ghosts, though? Are you one of those ghost hunters? Aren't you a little young for that?

[personal profile] hasadoctorsnote 2017-11-08 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
I guess it wants to redecorate. Are you able to control it at all?

I'm not exactly a ghost hunter. If you're familiar with Greek mythology at all, my father is Hades. I help him out in the Underworld sometimes, and I have power over the dead because of him. It doesn't matter how young or old I am, I've been dealing with ghosts for years. They don't scare me.
aroundthecoroner: (but my peace)

[personal profile] aroundthecoroner 2017-11-09 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
['Redecorate', sure. Mostly it likes to 'redecorate' faces, but Michael doesn't feel like getting into it.]

I can hold it back, or I can let it go, but that's about it.

[And as for the Greek mythology stuff... sure. Why not. He's heard weirder.]

... What all can you do with dead things?

[personal profile] hasadoctorsnote 2017-11-10 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Lots of things. Control them, summon them, banish them, put them to eternal rest by helping them move on if they're still stuck in the regular world. I can control bones, summon skeletons to fight for me... I travel through the shadows too. [He gives a little shrug like it's no big deal to him, even though he glances at the guy with an ever so slightly tense expression as he answers. He's far too used to people being freaked out by his abilities.]
aroundthecoroner: (and now we've realigned the edges)

[personal profile] aroundthecoroner 2017-11-11 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Right, that sure is... well it's a lot.

This is probably the point at which a sane person would ask for help. Maybe try to convince Nico to banish the Visitor, or lay it to rest or whatever. But Michael has sort of the opposite reaction. He doesn't want Nico to do any of that, and for reasons he can't even begin to explain. Besides, getting rid of it is supposed to be impossible, potentially deadly for the person trying. And there are no gods where he's from; he has no guarantee it'd even work.]

You don't... do any of that stuff against peoples' will though, right?

[Although "controlling them" sort of automatically means that. Details.

The Visitor seems to have picked up a sudden interest in this conversation, looking up from the mostly-demolished couch.]

[Nico's mouth curls up in wry amusement. Some ghosts people are perfectly content to keep around, like the Lares in New Rome, so he doesn't show any sort of surprise at that question.] Not often. It's not always absolute control - I can control them by being able to touch them whereas someone else's hand would probably go right through, and I can... send out vibes, I guess, to make them stay away - that sort of thing. I can summon them but if they don't want to come, they won't. [Like when he tried to desperately raise the ghost of his dead sister and she wouldn't come in an effort to try and get him to move on from her death.] The same with banishing them. It'd take a lot more effort to do it forcibly. The ones I raise to fight for me, I sort of... ask them to help me? Doing anything by force would probably take a lot out of me and the dead should be treated with respect. I don't want to force them to do anything they don't want to.

[His gaze flicks back over to the Visitor.] That doesn't look like a regular spirit though. How did you come across it?
aroundthecoroner: (and the place)

cw for briefly mentioned gross blood stuff

[personal profile] aroundthecoroner 2017-11-12 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
[So from what Nico's saying, he probably wouldn't be able to get rid of the Visitor, even if he wanted to. Or at least, it certainly wouldn't be easy. Which is comforting, which is stupid. Logically he knows he should want it gone. But he doesn't.]

Long story, kind of.

[He really doesn't want to explain to this kid that he drank dead people blood and got his stupid ass possessed.]

It was attached to a dead guy, but it isn't the ghost of that particular dead guy.

[personal profile] hasadoctorsnote 2017-11-13 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Some sort of possession then? Is it attached to you now?
aroundthecoroner: (and some would scream)

[personal profile] aroundthecoroner 2017-11-14 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah. Pretty much.

[That's the gist of it.]
