It was bound to happen. The Null warned you, after all, and this has been building for awhile - and now it's here. First comes the initial attack, the agents of the Null attacking Hope's temple. Then, an SOS, warning the city of what's happened: a betrayal, and Hope being injured. Luckily for everyone, thanks to the actions of his guards Hope survives the attack. Unluckily, his attacker, the goddess Delight, escapes and lets the Null in.
Flooding into the cave, the Null will attack anyone who they believe is resisting them. They'll destroy buildings and deploy dangerous crowd control weapons, in addition to their sheer strength and speed. Confusion empties the monsters in the tunnels into the city, to help distract the Null. Some gods fight, others provide safe havens, but everyone is in danger.
After about a week and a half of the attack, Fear summons enough power to teleport the city. This stops any new Null from arriving through the tunnels, but the remaining Null must be hunted down and destroyed, or else they'll signal their location to the rest of their species. The danger will lessen as Null are taken out, but things won't really be safe until Fear moves the city again, so don't get too comfortable.
What will you do? Run and hide? Fight? Help the fighters? Turn on the gods yourself? Whatever you do, it's time to make a decision.► This log covers November 25th-December 12th.

With some work, and finesse, she manages to twist the searing hot into the Null a second time. Then third. The strength of her arm coupled with her mass helps as she knocks the machine to the ground.
Slamming her foot on top of the machine, she drills the weapon into the Null. It shudders and stops struggling. Silent.

He lunges to his feet before his own opponent can catch up to him, ducking its grab and plunging his haki-clad blade into its exposed processor and moving through with the momentum, darting to go and help Rey with whatever's left.

Thankfully, there isn't much left by the time Law makes it over to Rey. She's since jumped on top of the bipedal machine, knocking it off its feet so she can pummel it repeatedly. Every forceful blow in her black fists makes a deeper and deeper dent in its chassis.
Just when it starts to shakily raise and aim its weapon at her, it stops. Rey seizes the central processor straight from the Null's core. Yanks it from its center.
The machine goes limp beneath her. Lights out.

Compliments aren't necessary but Law offers it anyway, just to hear something besides the rendering of metal. His voice betrays nothing of how much it hurt to be flung across the ground, but his left side is scored with bloody scratches and dirt now.
"Keep moving," he advises, "don't stop long enough to let them start to swarm on us."

When she looks back to Law over her shoulder, enough of her face is revealed to confirm her identity without a doubt, if there was every one to begin with.
She nods, shifting to push herself onto her feet.
"Of course." Rey runs a hand over her head, the black layer sliding off parts of her hair. "How bad is the clinic now?"
Not that she needs one. Just curious.

She just has a hard time seeing Love doing anything useful for a change.

Or maybe not, given the display of priorities people have here as it is. She recalls there being an argument against sending Delight off to do recon because then they would be without coffee.
In hindsight, they probably would have been better off had Delight not gone. They could've gathered more intel and this could have all been prevented. No use in crying over spilled milk now.
"Of all places to defend... The Guard's headquarters is just about rubble -- and sadly that isn't the first time." Huff.

He sidles up along a wall and peeps around the corner - for once, the coast is temporarily clear. At least, in that direction.
"...has anyone secured the armory? It's probably too late if they didn't, but..."

They're just buildings, yes. And Rey isn't surprised that they're not better suited for war. The gods and their former hosts were not adept for combat, at all.
Still, a lot of people put work into those places here. The dam had been her first project, and seeing it destroyed left Rey somewhat outraged. She hates it, but she's also come to consider this place her home. Anyone would be pissed if someone came into their house and started wrecking all their shit.
She pauses. "Not sure. There hasn't been much public coordination for that sort of thing -- for obvious reasons."
With the Guard HQ hit, that would be the more likely relocation for their defenses.

Since the path seems clear, Law steps out from behind the building. "Maybe we should check it out," he offers, edging in that direction. "If they haven't gotten to it, those weapons should be in our hands, not theirs." Tranquility's defense will have to be left up to others for now. One target at a time.

She knows that every god has their strengths and weaknesses. While they're not adept fighters, they seem capable of holding their own in other ways.
Rey doesn't need to check her surroundings when they make their way out onto the street. She's already aware. Rubbing her forehead as she walks. "Don't think synthetics with bombs and laser knives would have much use for swords and bows, but better than letting them take any more weapons away from us."
Come to think of it, they should start stockpiling the weapons that the dead Null have left behind. Could bw useful.

At least most of said hapless idiots knew how to hide. It's people like Law who are more likely to end up dead, putting themselves on the line as they do. But, hey, it's something. Something to do with a beneficial outcome, besides just hammering through scores of Null for hours on end.
"...if we run into any more," he adds, not looking at Rey directly, "can you take them for me? I need a bit to rest up."
no subject
In the end, who is she to say what is useful? Anything is better than nothing, or giving up.
She nods, bringing her hand to the injury where the Null had pierced her earlier. Should be fine. She's taken worse hits than this. But Rey has been pushing her limits for a while now and she knows that.
"Sure. Don't do tag teaming very well, anyway." Contrary to their display of teamwork just moments ago.

"They're coming..."
