What: The event log for the End of Arc 2
Where: All over the city
When: November 25th-December 12th
Warnings: A full-scale battle, including character death, NPC death, and various other ways to suffer

It was bound to happen. The Null warned you, after all, and this has been building for awhile - and now it's here. First comes the initial attack, the agents of the Null attacking Hope's temple. Then, an SOS, warning the city of what's happened: a betrayal, and Hope being injured. Luckily for everyone, thanks to the actions of his guards Hope survives the attack. Unluckily, his attacker, the goddess Delight, escapes and lets the Null in.

Flooding into the cave, the Null will attack anyone who they believe is resisting them. They'll destroy buildings and deploy dangerous crowd control weapons, in addition to their sheer strength and speed. Confusion empties the monsters in the tunnels into the city, to help distract the Null. Some gods fight, others provide safe havens, but everyone is in danger.

After about a week and a half of the attack, Fear summons enough power to teleport the city. This stops any new Null from arriving through the tunnels, but the remaining Null must be hunted down and destroyed, or else they'll signal their location to the rest of their species. The danger will lessen as Null are taken out, but things won't really be safe until Fear moves the city again, so don't get too comfortable.

What will you do? Run and hide? Fight? Help the fighters? Turn on the gods yourself? Whatever you do, it's time to make a decision.

[he takes a deep breath like he's going to protest, but then lets it out in a tired sigh. It's true, he really does need a moment.

Turning away from the door, Law crouches with his back against the wall, resting the sword against his shoulder.]

If they do, then I'll be forced to fight anyway. Might as well give it a few minutes just in case.

[he knows the reason he's so on-edge and doubting that anyone can survive is because he's in Fear's house, but knowing doesn't stop the feeling from encroaching on him]

Let's hope it doesn't come to that this time.

[It has before, of course, they've all had to fight on and off since this started - even Adam, who isn't usually much of a fighter. His magic has turned out to be useful, in a strange way.]

You seem used to this.

[He can feel the effects of being in Fear's temple, too, though it's distant, like all emotions are distant right now. Still, it's easier if he distracts himself somehow. Like with a conversation.]

[lucky Adam, Law can't block out emotions as well as he'd like to think he does, so he's silently talking himself down from worrying constantly.]

Not because I want to be. Even for a pirate captain I'm not usually thrown into lengthy melees on an every day basis. But... [deep breath] ...before I came here I did go through a battle of this magnitude.

I'm sorry you're faced with it again. One should be enough for any person's lifetime, I think.

[But he knows that isn't how it works. There's no limit on how many shitty things can happen to you.]

What happened?

[he snorts softly] Why apologize? It's not like it's your fault.

[no, he's got quite a long list of shitty things that have happened in his life. Let's not go through them.]

A plan failed and a megalomaniac attempted to slaughter the entire population of a country all in one day. Nothing as big as this, really.

I mean, that sounds... pretty big.

[Around the same scale as an evil robot invasion, in Adam's opinion.]

Were you trying to stop him?

Well. [that is a very loaded question. Law sits there doing the shifty-eyes for a moment before deciding to just answer. Lord knows being in Fear's temple is just tempting fate, he could be visited with a repeat round of nightmares and then everyone will know.]

...it wasn't what I went there for, but in the end, yeah, I had to try to stop him. I'd have been dead, too.

[He knows something is up with that answer - Law is just a little too shifty to be telling the complete truth. But Adam's not inclined to judge people too much for what they did before they got here. Besides, it's not like he's never done anything awful.]

Makes sense. In a situation like that, you don't have a lot of options. What were you there for in the first place, though?

[well that's even more shifty of an answer. Or a non-answer, as it comes out.]

...one quick errand related to a larger plan. The one that, unfortunately, failed.

[just, you know, trying to incite someone else to kill his most hated rival rather than doing it himself. No big.]

That's too bad.

[He sounds almost amused, mostly because of how shady Law's answers have been. Being vague only makes Adam's imagination get creative.]

Did you get another chance at it?

[honestly anything he can dream up is probably not any weirder than the truth]

That remains to be seen. Maybe someday I'll get to go home and see it all through.

[ugh every little noise near the temple just makes him jump - the underlying fear isn't good for his nerves. But it's his muscles, not his nerves, that need the break, so no matter how much he startles, keeps looking furtively around, and sweats, Law endures.]

[In that, Adam has it easy. His emotions are a step away from him, and if that makes him a little less human, it also makes him less anxious. It's a fair tradeoff right now. All he can really do is try to serve as a distraction for those who can't make that trade.]

You will. We all will, eventually. We've survived this long - the Null won't be the end of us either.

Better not be. [putting his head down so that his hat's visor shields his eyes. He can't pretend he isn't affected by Fear but he can hide it.] Damn robots. There's probably millions of them, they'll keep coming...wave after wave, tireless and unfeeling. They'll wear us down, we'll die from exhaustion even before they can run us through.

[yep definitely can't hide the paranoia anymore]

That's a pessimistic way to look at it.

[Not that Adam can necessarily disagree. From where he's standing, that seems like a pretty likely outcome, unless the gods can do something. But saying that won't help much.]

We're not going to go down easily. Maybe that will happen, but we'll be taking plenty of them down with us.

No one has ever called me an optimist.

[he just probably wouldn't be saying it so openly if not for Fear. Thanks Fear. Real bro.]

I haven't taken back my life just to give it up here. [inspiration enough to grab his sword and use it to push himself up to his feet.] I have things to do. Allies who need me. Fuck the Null, I'll tear them to shreds.

[whatever works to get him pumped to fight again, right?]

[Hey, it's something. Better than despair, for sure.]

I like the sound of that. The most important thing here is survival. We might not all make it, but as long as some do, we can rebuild.

[yeah, the not all making it isn't a pleasant thought. Law's at the point where enduring Fear's influence isn't worth the rest, he needs to get back out there. He glances back at Adam with a single nod]

No one's going survive without a fight.

[it was a nice chat but he's got Null to slaughter]

[He nods in return. That, of course, is unarguable.]
