Event Log: End of Arc 2

What: The event log for the End of Arc 2

Warnings: A full-scale battle, including character death, NPC death, and various other ways to suffer

It was bound to happen. The Null warned you, after all, and this has been building for awhile - and now it's here. First comes the initial attack, the agents of the Null attacking Hope's temple. Then, an SOS, warning the city of what's happened: a betrayal, and Hope being injured. Luckily for everyone, thanks to the actions of his guards Hope survives the attack. Unluckily, his attacker, the goddess Delight, escapes and lets the Null in.

Flooding into the cave, the Null will attack anyone who they believe is resisting them. They'll destroy buildings and deploy dangerous crowd control weapons, in addition to their sheer strength and speed. Confusion empties the monsters in the tunnels into the city, to help distract the Null. Some gods fight, others provide safe havens, but everyone is in danger.

After about a week and a half of the attack, Fear summons enough power to teleport the city. This stops any new Null from arriving through the tunnels, but the remaining Null must be hunted down and destroyed, or else they'll signal their location to the rest of their species. The danger will lessen as Null are taken out, but things won't really be safe until Fear moves the city again, so don't get too comfortable.

What will you do? Run and hide? Fight? Help the fighters? Turn on the gods yourself? Whatever you do, it's time to make a decision.

What, so I can't use you as one?

[Ephemera turns his head slightly.]

We haven't trained together. At least you know Washington. It's better than nothing.

[evocation]

I'm kidding. I don't want to use either of you as a human shield. That's fucked up.

Why not?

[It's a genuine question.]

We'd survive it, with our armor.

[evocation]

Yeah, but you'd still get hurt, and you could die anyway. Jesus, what is it with you guys and not caring about your wellbeing?

[Ephemera blinks.]

It's our job. He was a Freelancer, I was a hell jumper. That's part of the deal.

[evocation]

A hell jumper?

[What? Whatever. She decides to work that out later.]

You said "was". You were. You don't have to be all self-sacrificial now.

[requiemshark]

Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. [He shrugs. Apparently Washington didn't explain that part. It doesn't matter, in the greater scheme of things. Ephemera hasn't been a hell jumper for a long time.] Advanced infantry. We jump behind enemy lines from orbit. Feet first into hell, and all that.

[It's said a little wistfully. He misses jumping.]

I'm practical. I can take hits you can't.

[evocation]

[It's true. He can, but Kyna doesn't respond to most situations practically, so she just frowns.]

Or you could stay back with me and just fuck them up from a distance.

Drake's got my rifle. Pistol's optimum range is shorter.

I'm more effective close up.

[evocation]

[She wrinkles her nose.]

You drive me nuts, you know that?

[But there's no real heat behind it.]

Don't get yourself killed or I'll be pissed.

[requiemshark]

[He doesn't understand Kyna all the time, but Ephemera likes her. So she better not die.]

[evocation]

I'll be fine, you sap.

[She's clearly teasing now.]

Hey, let's make a bet. See who can kill more Null. Deal?

[He refuses to admit it.]

[evocation]

Uh... I don't know. What do you want?

[requiemshark]

[Ephemera considers it.]

Teach me some magic.

[evocation]

Oh. Um. What kind of magic?

[requiemshark]

Any kind.

[He pauses.]

I'm not an idiot. I don't just shoot people. But if you don't want to, that's fine.

[evocation]

[She considers that, considers him. She'll have to start out with simple, harmless spells anyway, and he did teach her how to throw a knife...]

...I'll give it a shot.

[requiemshark]

[Ephemera nods.]

Cool. And in the unlikely event that you win, what'd you want?

[evocation]

Hmm.

[She considers that, tilting her head.]

You have to tell everyone you know how awesome I am in loving detail.

[requiemshark]

[Ephemera eyes her.]

......how much detail?

[evocation]

As detailed as you can get.

[requiemshark]

[Urg.

Ephemera huffs.]

Fine. But it better be some pretty awesome magic you're offering.

[evocation]

[Kyna bursts out laughing.]

I'm totally going to win.
