Event Log: End of Arc 2

Who: All characters
What: The event log for the End of Arc 2

Warnings: A full-scale battle, including character death, NPC death, and various other ways to suffer

It was bound to happen. The Null warned you, after all, and this has been building for awhile - and now it's here. First comes the initial attack, the agents of the Null attacking Hope's temple. Then, an SOS, warning the city of what's happened: a betrayal, and Hope being injured. Luckily for everyone, thanks to the actions of his guards Hope survives the attack. Unluckily, his attacker, the goddess Delight, escapes and lets the Null in.

Flooding into the cave, the Null will attack anyone who they believe is resisting them. They'll destroy buildings and deploy dangerous crowd control weapons, in addition to their sheer strength and speed. Confusion empties the monsters in the tunnels into the city, to help distract the Null. Some gods fight, others provide safe havens, but everyone is in danger.

After about a week and a half of the attack, Fear summons enough power to teleport the city. This stops any new Null from arriving through the tunnels, but the remaining Null must be hunted down and destroyed, or else they'll signal their location to the rest of their species. The danger will lessen as Null are taken out, but things won't really be safe until Fear moves the city again, so don't get too comfortable.

What will you do? Run and hide? Fight? Help the fighters? Turn on the gods yourself? Whatever you do, it's time to make a decision.

Yes, especially when it's something that everybody needs.

[yes, the damage could've been a hundred times worse. she's not going to have to start from scratch to make everyone's clothes and she still has some fabric left. though, she has the urge to kick one of the bolts. Delight's betrayal angered her and she doesn't even like Hope.

she watches him relax a little and is glad. he'd seemed so stressed and tired when she first found him]

[he's still stressed and tired, but at least the idle chatter keeps his mind off that bit.]

You'll be busy, after. I'm sure.

[something passes by outside, he can hear it, but nothing comes in or even checks the windows to see if there are people. Ugh, he's so tired he can't even sense anything. This just has to end, before he keels over.]

[she'll do whatever she can to make him feel better]

I'd imagine so. I just hope that I can convince one of the other gods to give me fabric.

[Margaery doesn't go to check. she feels a bit cowardly as it could be a person out there in need of shelter but it could just as easily be a Null intent on their deaths]

[exactly, Marg, and at this rate it's safer to just hold tight and stay quiet for a moment until it passes. Then they can keep going.]

Yeah, that's a problem. All the same...I don't feel bad for not going to Delight on your behalf, yet. It must be a real kick in the teeth.

[she stops moving entirely and even holds her breath while the other person or thing passes by. eventually, they do and Marg gives a sigh of relief]

I understand. I feel rather foolish for trusting her myself. I wonder how long she'd been planning this?

It has to have been a long time. Maybe a year or more.

[his gaze shifts, taking in the windows, the ceiling, the cluttered workspace. It's a habit, whenever under the strain of pursuit, to scope out all potential weapons and escape routes.]

I remember, shortly after I got here. I was talking to someone about the gods and their problem. And then, when I spoke to Hope that one time. When I compared what they said to the fact of how many people were still here from the very first time the Null found their way in, there was only one conclusion to make. It had to be one of the gods themselves. [sigh, closing his eyes again] If only I hadn't left it there. If I'd given half a shit, I might have been able to ferret out which one. There are only eight to choose from, compared to dozens of people.

Most likely. After all, didn't the Null attempt to invade a year ago?

[Marg returns to bustling about the shop, righting dress figures and stacking bolts of fabric in order of color.

she goes over and crouches next to him, so she can look him in the eyes]

There's no use for self-flagellation now. Perhaps you should have pursued that lead further, but you couldn't have known for sure. And even if you had pursued the gods, who would have suspected Delight? She'd have lied to your face and not thought twice about it.

[Oh, hi Marg. He doesn't flinch this time, but she's still closer than he'd like. People.]

I don't doubt that. It's neither here nor there at this point...there were plenty of obstacles in the way of any investigation anyway. Constant distractions, interference from the gods themselves...

All conspiring to make a real investigation impossible. After all, wasn't it Rage and Delight who were sent out to spy on the Null? Clearly, not even the gods suspected her.

[she did threaten to patch him up, he hasn't forgotten that either]

They're just as much idiots as the people they've brought here.

[present company excluded...or maybe he means all of them including him. Who knows?]

[she'll do it. don't underestimate her]

They are indeed. Just as prone to blind spots and trust given too easily.

[well, she knows she's not an idiot. after all, she did figure out that Cersei was going to kill them all. she just wasn't able to convince the Sparrows]

[he peeks up at her from under his hat, doing his best not to pout]

I guess the desire to trust your own crew extends even to desperate aliens who feed off emotions.

[Ah well, what's done is done. Some part of Law figures he'll approach things differently once this is all over, but another part of him keeps saying if this ends with any of us still alive.]

You're not planning to hole up here until everything ends? They could come to ransack it again.

[she meets his eyes]

I suppose so. However, we shouldn't forget that they are using us for a purpose.

[Marg is confident that they'll survive this. some may fall and have to be revived by Hope, but there's no doubt in her mind that victory will be theirs]

No. I couldn't even if I wanted to. I have no food here. I was planning to check on Delmar at the new clinic and then go back to my apartment for something to eat.

[yes good. Although how she can get around to all those places without being constantly beset, he doesn't know. Clearly she's much sneakier than he is.]

Smart. Then, when you're ready, I'll be rested enough. I'll see you as far as the river.

[she's small, light footed, and good at sticking to the shadows. but should a Null attack, she'll be ready.

she is of the opinion that he needs more rest]

I need to take inventory of my thread first.

Law lets his head thunk back against the wall but otherwise doesn't protest.]

[she will finish when she's sure he's not in danger of collapsing, thank you]

It won't take long. I just need to put them back in order.

[such a nefarious plot! She's got him, too, since he's not going to just wander off.]

And if they break in again, they're just going to get messed up again...

Perhaps they won't? They already gave the place a thorough ransacking, I doubt they'll be smart enough to try for a second time.

[He tries to come up with a counter-argument but...really, who knows what Null logic really is? Dammit.]

Yeah, well. Just do what you need to do, already.

[Null operate on bizzaro logic. why else would people who made fun of them end up on their kill list? though, Marg asked to be on that list]

[he's starting to suspect that she's doing this to keep him there, and while he resents anyone trying to mother-hen him (this isn't the first time this week, really), the longer he sits there, the harder it is to make his legs work to get up on his own. Rock, meet hard place. Law just sighs out loud like a child and closes his eyes again.]

[Marg just smiles and continues to sort through an assortment of spools of thread, putting them in order of colors. who knew that there were so many shades of blue? Marg did and yes, she's doing this on purpose to make him get more rest]

[the only thing he doesn't do is let himself doze off - he can't, he would beat himself up even more if he slept anywhere that wasn't heavily guarded right now. The Null could come sniffing around at any moment! But Law is quiet for a long time, slumped against the wall with his legs just flopped wherever they were when he sat down.

Now and then he cracks an eye to see what she's up to.]

Are you finished yet?

[darn, she'd been hoping he'd nod off or something. she'd eyed him from time to time, noticing that while he seems relaxed, he obviously hasn't fallen asleep.

she finishes sorting the reds from the pinks and slides the drawer closed]
