It was bound to happen. The Null warned you, after all, and this has been building for awhile - and now it's here. First comes the initial attack, the agents of the Null attacking Hope's temple. Then, an SOS, warning the city of what's happened: a betrayal, and Hope being injured. Luckily for everyone, thanks to the actions of his guards Hope survives the attack. Unluckily, his attacker, the goddess Delight, escapes and lets the Null in.
Flooding into the cave, the Null will attack anyone who they believe is resisting them. They'll destroy buildings and deploy dangerous crowd control weapons, in addition to their sheer strength and speed. Confusion empties the monsters in the tunnels into the city, to help distract the Null. Some gods fight, others provide safe havens, but everyone is in danger.
After about a week and a half of the attack, Fear summons enough power to teleport the city. This stops any new Null from arriving through the tunnels, but the remaining Null must be hunted down and destroyed, or else they'll signal their location to the rest of their species. The danger will lessen as Null are taken out, but things won't really be safe until Fear moves the city again, so don't get too comfortable.
What will you do? Run and hide? Fight? Help the fighters? Turn on the gods yourself? Whatever you do, it's time to make a decision.► This log covers November 25th-December 12th.

Can you hit it?
[Ignis can, but daggers require pinpoint precision and he hasn't hit enough of these things yet to be able to say for sure that he'll strike where he needs to. He pauses, only for a moment, to evaluate what he's looking at and his attention zeroes in on a slight glow in the wiring and metal of the machine's chest.]
There!
no subject
[ the minute Ignis points it out Maglor aims for it, pouring will and intent into his blow to strike through metal plate that has grown thicker and thicker each time ]
There! Another down.

[As he says it he sounds more than a little sarcastic, but all in all that had been a painless experience. If only there were less of them, then it wouldn't feel like such a monumental effort every time it happened.
Ignis takes advantage of the moment of silence and that little less danger to lean forwards, bracing his hands against his knees and just breathing for a few seconds.]
It's never-ending.

One, alone, is easy prey. The problem is the numbers. This area seems fairly clear for the nonce, however - shall we move on?
no subject
[No use in lingering around here. Ignis tilts his head slightly, indicating for the elf to follow him.]
On to the next.

They do seem to be targeting the temples - which makes sense. Which one is closest to us here?
no subject
Tranquility's. The only one they're leaving untouched is Delight's.
[Only one guess needed as to why that might be. He makes a soft, annoyed sound.]
I suggested to Hope that only one of them could know where we are. He was so certain it couldn't be so that I dismissed the idea.
Please excuse the change of format - phonetags
Maglor sighs.
"We had best go check it out."

[He can't help but think if he had pressed the issue... if he'd had more of a relationship with Hope where the man might have been more likely to listen to what he was saying... could this have been prevented? Could any of it?
Ignis sighs, shakes off his thoughts and nods.]
As you say. This way, then.

It is always hard to believe that one of your own is at fault.
[ Poor Maeglin! He thinks, at least his nephew had torture as an excuse ]
no subject
[And yet, still, it's such a frustrating thing to realise that he was on to something and he just let it go. Complacency like that isn't something that he wants to become a habit.]
But it should have been considered. It wasn't, and now... [And now this is happening.]
no subject
[ Maglor agrees with a sigh ]
That much, at least, we can do.
