It was bound to happen. The Null warned you, after all, and this has been building for awhile - and now it's here. First comes the initial attack, the agents of the Null attacking Hope's temple. Then, an SOS, warning the city of what's happened: a betrayal, and Hope being injured. Luckily for everyone, thanks to the actions of his guards Hope survives the attack. Unluckily, his attacker, the goddess Delight, escapes and lets the Null in.
Flooding into the cave, the Null will attack anyone who they believe is resisting them. They'll destroy buildings and deploy dangerous crowd control weapons, in addition to their sheer strength and speed. Confusion empties the monsters in the tunnels into the city, to help distract the Null. Some gods fight, others provide safe havens, but everyone is in danger.
After about a week and a half of the attack, Fear summons enough power to teleport the city. This stops any new Null from arriving through the tunnels, but the remaining Null must be hunted down and destroyed, or else they'll signal their location to the rest of their species. The danger will lessen as Null are taken out, but things won't really be safe until Fear moves the city again, so don't get too comfortable.
What will you do? Run and hide? Fight? Help the fighters? Turn on the gods yourself? Whatever you do, it's time to make a decision.► This log covers November 25th-December 12th.

[He insists, though- maybe a little break would be best. He's worried about it costing more than it could save, but what else can they do? If they push the forest too far, it could snap under the pressure, and the last thing that Ronan wants is to bright nightmares into the mix.
If anyone knows more about Cabeswater than he does though, it's Adam. Adam will be able to tell if something is going wrong, as it seems to be, and Adam will know just how far they can push it. He has to listen to him, even if he wants to keep pushing on.
Ronan looks away, frowning.]
We're going to have to push it.
no subject
[He worries about that, distantly. The consequences of pushing Cabeswater too far could be devastating for Ronan, and Adam thinks it will likely affect him, too. He remembers being able to feel when Ronan drew power from the ley line, the way it drained the forest. And he's more in tune with it now, and more in tune with Ronan.
He thinks, though, that his presence might help. Might protect Ronan, at least a little. He can coax the forest into something closer to calm, and though it won't work forever, at least it's something.
Adam pauses, though. His worry might be distant, but it's there. He thinks of what could happen. He thinks of Ronan.]
That isn't true. We do have a choice. We don't have to do this. We could walk away.
no subject
It doesn't sit right with him even so, for more than one reason.]
We can't do that.
[He finally says, quiet, but reaching for Adam's hand all the same, twining their fingers together. It's good for Adam to suggest it- it needed to be suggested- but it's also not something that Ronan can allow himself to do. He might not be the go-getting busybody that Gansey is, but he knows when his back is against a corner.]
If the city goes, our chances of survival look like slim to none. I'd rather risk everything else than risk losing you.

Adam does have friends here. He does have people he cares about, and he will do what he can to try to protect them, too. But when it comes down to it - if it comes down to it - Ronan is the most important thing. He'll do whatever he needs to to keep Ronan safe.]
You're right.
[He does not know how he got to this place - what he ever did in his life to deserve the loyalty of someone like Ronan. Nothing, probably. He might not deserve it, but he has it, and all he can do is give all of his loyalty in return.]
Then we'll do what we have to do. Whatever comes, I'll keep it away for as long as I can.

It's not going to be good for either of them and they both know it- but they can't do nothing. They're screwed essentially, between a rock and a hard place with nothing but one another to soften the blow. Something about that sensation is familiar and despite himself, Ronan finds a tiny, wry smile tugging at the corner of his lips.]
Wake me up.
[He finally says, his fingers tightening over Adam's own, and Ronan brings the other boy's hand to his mouth, kissing along the line of the delicate bones on the back of it.]
If you need me. If they find us.
no subject
He also thinks Ronan's thing for his hands is cute.]
I will.
[If they come close enough to put him in any kind of danger, Cabeswater should sense it - and he has asked the forest already to hide them, to protect them. It probably would have anyway, but Adam wants to be sure. He'll wake Ronan if he needs to, or if he thinks Ronan has been gone for too long. Ronan can't lose himself the way Adam could, but that doesn't mean he's not in danger.]
If it gets bad, tell me. Next time I'll go in with you.

Plus, he likes walking through the forest with Adam. Likes being inside of their connection as if it's a physical place just about them. He feels sometimes, that it makes the trees more malleable, the line more amenable to his will.
It's not possible here, though- at least, not now. If they found someone else to help them, then maybe, but there's nobody that Ronan trusts to watch his back more than Adam. It's only unfortunate that he can't physically watch it in two places at once.]
But I'll let you know.
no subject
But they need to be protected out here, and it's true that he can't do both. He has to do what he's able to do right now.]
Okay. Just - be careful.
[It's foolish to say that. Of course Ronan will be as careful as he can, but Adam knows very well that isn't how dreams work. He's woken up to enough strange things even just sharing a bed with Ronan, when he has no reason to dream of darkness. This is something else entirely, and infinitely more dangerous.]
There's nothing coming, at least. We have some time.
