Event Log: Shining, Shimmering, Splashing

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Shining, Shimmering, Splashing event, as well as new world exploration and rebuilding!
Where: All over the city, and beyond!
When: December 13th-26th
Warnings: Way too much sun, water that makes you feel weird, and some monsters

Welcome to the new Hadriel. It's pretty much like the old Hadriel, except for all the destroyed buildings - oh, and the sky above you. With two suns, and a whole world to explore if that's what you're into. But is it safe? Of course not, are you new or something? Arriving on this new world doesn't change much about the layout of the city, but it certainly changes what you have to deal with. Of course, that's mostly thanks to the Null.

Because of Hope's near-death and subsequent slow recovery, life in Hadriel overall is just a little - or a lot - harder than it used to be. Food in the shops is nearly impossible to find, the orchard has been partially burned (and with Sorrow dead, won't be growing much anytime soon), and there's no running water. It's time to explore, rebuild, and try to survive without the help of the one god that was providing most of the amenities. Of course, you're not the only ones who need to eat - the monsters that were brought along with the city are getting hungry, too. Of course, some of them are edible, so maybe the fact that they're coming into the city to try and eat you makes them more like a convenient food delivery system - if you can munch them before they munch you.

And the water... well, that's another story. There are pools around the god temples now, and the water is perfectly safe to drink. The only down side there is that it'll induce emotion in you. Drink a glass of Love water and you'll find yourself inclined towards warm feelings, fix a cup of coffee with Rage water and you'll have a bit of trouble with that temper. You might get a few blessing effects, too, if you're lucky. But what can you do? Unaffected running water won't be working for a few days, so enjoy those mood swings!

[thanks cheerleader-pharaoh. It is actually pretty hard to reel in when it's just a string, even with both hands. At least the fish isn't big enough to really fight it, so a few good yanks and some string burns and there we go! Fish.]

Well done. You're good at this. 「Hmm... 」 It might be faster if we had a harpoon of sorts and swam down there. Maybe there are bigger fish to catch in the depths.

Unusual, perhaps, but it's true. I can't swim.

[honestly he probably never pulled his nose out of a book long enough to learn even before he ate the Devil Fruit, but that sort of just made even attempting it pretty much moot. Saying that he can't isn't a lie even if the truth is, if he goes into the water, he'll lose his strength and drown.]

「He doesn't have to use the Eye for this, he trusts him. Not that he's not curious about it.」

[he might even stick his feet in the water, if there's no threat of any emergencies popping up behind him while he does. Might. But that's dangerously close to having fun.]

It's fine. It's not like I need to. I can fish and collect water without going into the pools.

Which means that if he's not going to bait another hook, Law decides to settle in, taking off his boots and rolling up his pants so he can, in fact, dip his toes into the water. That won't sap his strength too much.]

What do you want to hear about? Every Devil Fruit gives a different ability to the eater, so I know pirates made of rubber, fire, ice, and snot. Others transform into animals. Then there's giants, Longlegs, and fishmen. My navigator is a polar bear. Pick one.

It's a shame there is no Duel Monsters where you come from, it sounds like a fun place. 「If not, absolutely bizarre.」 From the sound of it, it seems you're the most normal... What's your navigator's name?

[his eyes lighten with a small, vague smile as he sinks his toes into the water. It's better that his crew isn't here suffering with him, but he still can imagine Bepo trying to catch fish like a good bear and probably failing.]

He's been my navigator for ten years. Part of my core crew.

What does a navigator do? Is it like GPS?

[somewhere between thirteen and sixteen, yep, Trafalgar Law formed a crew with a polar bear Mink and two boys who couldn't beat him up no matter how much they tried. What a story.

The question brings out one of his usual deadpan stares, but at least by now he has played with his phone enough to know what the GPS feature is. So while the term catches him off-guard for a moment, he figures it out]

Actually...sort of. We don't have things like the phone to tell you where you are, though. The navigator's job is to read the compass or the log as well as maps to figure out where you are and where you're going.

[which strikes him rather suddenly, making him tip his head up just enough to look at the sky from under the visor of his hat. It still mostly shields his eyes but there's no stars to be seen in that brassy, metallic-blue sky.]

We've been here a few days and I haven't taken the time to look up at the stars. I've been too focused on getting sleep instead. But, we're out from under a roof, now...
