Intro Log: Rock This City

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

"Reading isn't an issue." He isn't an idiot, and he does know that it might be for some people but he, at least, had the luxuries of Galhea to grow up with. Or else the fear of his father that brought what he needed into Forever or else. Either way, it doesn't particularly matter now.

But his mind grinds to a halt once again at the next sentence.

"I'm sorry, the what?"

As Curufin came closer and Will realized he was coming over to him, the slightly nervous, awkward feelings he normally became crippled by, started to creep up. Avoiding eye contact for any length of time and moving his body in an uncomfortable twist as he was greeted and spoken to.

"It's been forever. Or well, it felt like it- er, I mean, not that I er had been counting the days or- Not anything like that, er... Heh. It's good to see you well...I'm Will- Er well myself... ~~shut up and drink, Will.~~"

Giving a quick, awkward smile before gulping down a few mouthfuls of his spirits.

You can't fire me, you quit.

[So there!!!]

Ghoul reaches up to scratch anxiously through his hair, because this is a bit of an awkward topic that he's not completely sure how to explain.

"Yeah, those guys." Shrug. "People call 'em gods. S'posed to be the ones that got us here, I think? They're named after different feelings and they suck up our vibes any time we feel what they're named for. I dunno the guts of it, but that's why they gotta keep us. They'd starve elsewise. Still sounds real throwed off to me."

About half of that was probably understandable English. Godspeed, Swift.

[ Maybe she's learning, a little bit, to think before she speaks. In reality, it's more likely that she's just tired of the path she wanders down when she starts saying flirtatious things and they're treated a bit more seriously. It's hard to tell which with her these days. ]

Since the Null invasion. Don't want Hope to waste his energy even if he could get it because- I'd rather him use it on more important things.

[ Like bringing Sorrow back, which is unsaid but implied in almost every reference Rose makes to the gods these days. Come back. I miss you already. ]

Also got told I shouldn't rely on them anymore anyway, so.

I was in Haven two years before this, too. [ Just in case a year wasn't startling enough! It's very possible that he'll be here for a while. But even the people Rose imagined might stick didn't, so... It's hard to say.

Though she tries not to, Rose can't quite help the way her smile grows just slightly at the name 'Miss Fluffles.' He says it so seriously, too. It's kind of adorable. ] Well, I hope you both settle in okay. And I'll make sure Wolfie doesn't mistake her for a snack.

[ As if on cue, a wolf comes striding into side. His ears perk up and looks to Rose as if he recognizes he's been called before his attention is squarely on Prompto and the chocobo. He doesn't appear hostile but isn't quite friendly either, just- Watchful. Curious. ]

[Tucker squints again, and not because of the sun this time. Nice landing, bro, but what the hell are you talking about.]

Nah dude, I'm talking about the internet kind. Who'd you piss off though? Was it here?

[Guy looks kind of elfy, but not too elfy. Still, sometimes elves are out of the loop on the whole technology thing. Probably something to do with living practically forever. Or maybe this one's from an old-timey world? Whatever. It's too bad money's not a thing here, because he could totally lie and say the phone is worth a lot. He's not quite a dick enough to leave someone without any communication, though. Not quite.]

It's a phone. You talk into it, and other people hear you. Like a walkie-talkie? Or uh... what's the name. That spell Harlan's always using. Message, maybe? Hell if I know.

[Please know about magic and/or 80s tech.]

It takes a moment but he at least manages to sort out most of the meaning in that explanation. Enough that he doesn't think he needs to ask "what" again, at least. He doesn't like the implications of any of that, but really, is there anyone who would? He's under no apprehension that he's at all special because of that.

"It sounds downright monstrous."

A cave, [ she repeats. ] Never thought I'd miss that place, but... Kind of do. At least when both those suns are in the sky.

[ Then she just wishes there were more shade. The dampness of the cave would be welcome too. ]

We didn't find it, it's just. Always been here. The cave's gone from around it but the city stayed the same. [ Well. ] Mostly. We're undergoing some renovations right now.

What does that even mean?

What do you think it means? When did you last quit, you might not even be employed right now.

Maybe if you took that fucking statue thing off of my desk, I wouldn't have to quit.

His hand drops, and his voice goes oddly flat right along with it. "It is." The emotion-eating thing seems to be... mostly unnoticeable, but it's the principle of it. The concept itself is just kind of gross.

"Least you ain't dead, though. You got a place to go back to, so there y'go. Shit to look forward to."

Shit to go back to indeed. It is not pleasant at home right now and as much as he'd prefer to be there, that doesn't make it any easier. He doesn't comment on it right away and takes a few deep breaths before he answers, rather softly.

"I suppose I do. I take it that it isn't the same for you."

[In some way, Rey almost regrets suggesting that Rose go to the gods for help, if they couldn't provide her with a more permanent solution.]

Take it there's no way they could undo whatever's been done to you, then.

[Just a guess. Rey can understand not wanting to become too dependent on the gods, but...]

You shouldn't have to rely on anyone. Not for that shit.

[For all of the people who did come to bother Rey, she doesn't hold it against Alphys. At the same time, she can't say she wishes that no one came to her at all during her period of isolation. Motivation is hard, and she needed it.]

Mm. Been a while since I left home...

[But it seems that certain people already knew that for some reason. Maybe it was a bad idea to throw her phone into the blender, since now she's been unable to confirm her suspicions that word has gotten around on the network. Then again, that's probably a good thing, too.]

Guess so. [Rey isn't sure if she can call this happiness or a distraction, but she isn't about to kill the mood by calling it such.] You doing okay?

[ It's not her fault. She couldn't have known. Rose should have figured, considering the exact of what was done to her is a giant question mark. All she knows is that it shouldn't have been possible and yet- The Yao Corporation had a habit of doing that, didn't they? Bending reality to their whims. Rose isn't sure why she ever imagined Kite's experiments would be different. That they had to make any semblance of sense. ]

Not that I know of. I was relying on Wade Wilson back in Haven because he could regenerate but since I've gotten here, that's... [ Complicated. ] He's basically made it clear he wants nothing to do with me anymore and I can't blame him. Then it was Hope when I couldn't stand it anymore and, well. We know how that's going now, which is not.

[ Rose didn't want to rely on anyone. Even in Haven, she had hated asking Wade for help to the point that she almost killed herself just so she wouldn't be a burden to anyone anymore. ]

[That's no good. Rose referred to her hunger as an "addiction", and that just makes it even more so.]

Might've been for the best. [Blunt, but honest. That's Rey for you. She can see that being totally reliant on one person, on one source, for survival can be unhealthy. And she's been there herself.]

If there was someone who could reverse what was done to you, and not one of the gods, would you take that?

[Anything is better than being in a situation where you feel like a burden to others. Just dead weight.]

Ghoul's grin is maybe just a little too tense, and he sticks both his hands in his pockets to keep them still. "You sayin' I look like roadkill?"

Sensitive subject, then. "No, but you seem rather preoccupied with my status." Alive or dead or whatever, he was still talking, that counts for something, doesn't it? Maybe not much of something or maybe not anything good, but something, regardless.

[No one seems to know, and it's starting to worry him. He doesn't... he doesn't want to be here alone.

Ha... haha, no it's okay. Frisk, Chara, and Mettaton had to be here. He wouldn't be stuck here all by himself. No matter what Thisavrou has thrown at them, it wouldn't be that cruel.]

No, I'm not. I just got here, um... a few minutes ago, I guess.

I'm Asriel.

「Please don't shove away the sudden weight that's leaning on you, Kain. It's not like Atem is heavy at all. Apparently this one has had his fair share of drinks already, but he's fine, he's great. And definitely cannot ignore Kain once he sees him there so intently staring at... something.」

「He promises that's not a pick up line, he's just drunk.」

[Padmé is a smart woman, but she also knows that there only certain things that can be done during the heat of the day, sand or no sand. Suns or no suns. As such, she has a bottle of water at her hip and a cloak that covers her head from both the heat of the sun and any wind that blasts the sand up. Tatooine is good for something.

She stops when she sees a man who is obviously not dressed for the heat of the day or the blast of the sand against exposed skin. She steps lightly over to him and offers her canteen to him.]

Are you one of the new arrivals here? I would welcome you, but I doubt that it would go over very well.

"I mean, yeah. Sometimes freshmen flip a tit when the whole being-dead thing sinks in, and I ain't a lifecoach. Or a deathcoach- hah, get it?" If he's not dead yet, he'll wish he was after being exposed to Ghoul's sense of humor. "So, yeah, call it interest for selfish reasons." There's at least a bit of truth mixed in there somewhere.

It's complicated. He's still working himself through his existential crisis anyhow, he can't piggyback a stranger's as well. Swift's non-zombie status is a blessing, really.

"C'mon, I gotta move," he says as he begins to walk away from the colosseum. "I'll point some stuff out to you if you're gonna tag after me."

[He turns at the voice with a soft smile on his face. After a statement like that, it sounds like she could use some reassurance that he's not going to attack without warning.]

It might, you never know until you try. [But he nods, at least.]

I am, it seems. I just arrived, although I'm not really certain where I've arrived.
