Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Padmé is a smart woman, but she also knows that there only certain things that can be done during the heat of the day, sand or no sand. Suns or no suns. As such, she has a bottle of water at her hip and a cloak that covers her head from both the heat of the sun and any wind that blasts the sand up. Tatooine is good for something.

She stops when she sees a man who is obviously not dressed for the heat of the day or the blast of the sand against exposed skin. She steps lightly over to him and offers her canteen to him.]

Are you one of the new arrivals here? I would welcome you, but I doubt that it would go over very well.

[He turns at the voice with a soft smile on his face. After a statement like that, it sounds like she could use some reassurance that he's not going to attack without warning.]

It might, you never know until you try. [But he nods, at least.]

I am, it seems. I just arrived, although I'm not really certain where I've arrived.

[How cute of him to think that she is walking around unarmed. Should she be hurt, there are worse things than just a few stabs from her own weapon lurking around this world. And not all of them are native.

However, she's never been the kind to lay down and die either.

Besides, you gather more shaak with flowers than thorns.]

Then be welcome to Hadriel, newcomer. [She continues to hold out the canteen for him to take, her expression only tipping into a slight smile.] My name is Padmé Amidala. I don't know how much help I can be, as I've only been here for a month myself, but if you have questions, I can attempt to answer them or direct you to someone who can.

[Maybe Swift is just overly trusting, but he prefers to give people the benefit of the doubt before assuming they're all ready at a moment's notice to stab him. Or whatever. At least no one here seems to know who he is and that's some small measure of safety.]

Thank you. I appreciate it. [He takes the offered canteen, though he doesn't drink too much from it before handing it back. He's not going to be rude.] Swift har Parasiel. I'm not really sure where to begin with the questions, though.

[Perhaps that is a good thing, yes, but there are other things to worry about than a lone woman in the deserted city, offering water.]

Well, Swift har Parasiel, I'm sure that questions will come in time. I assume you entered in either the innermost caves or the arena, since those tend to be the most popular destinations for arrivals from what I've heard.

[She takes back the canteen and slips it into the pouches at her side.]

You're not far from some of the more important buildings in this world, but sadly a great number of them were damaged in a recent bought of fighting. If you have no place to stay, some of the temples have been deemed safe for people to sleep for short periods of time, but more permanent housing is not that difficult to obtain.

It was the arena. I'm not sure whether I like what that says about whoever is making this happen thinks about...well, us, I suppose. [Captives? Abductees? Arrivals? Whatever they're calling themselves. He doesn't really like any of those words.]

I'm not sure I like the thought of "more permanent housing," either, but I believe I don't have much choice, do I?

I believe it says more about them than us. And there are few here who can say that they care what they think about us.

[Herself among them. And while she might be a "captive", she's not about to take it lying down.]

It beats attempting to stay in tents, especially in this strange desert environment. I've been on a planet with two suns before and I would not recommend tents.

I cant say as I've ever had the, ah, pleasure before now, but I can already imagine that a tent wouldn't be ideal.

[Padmé gives him a bright but brief smile.]

Well, Tatooine wasn't the most hospitable planet, even in the normal buildings. So, tents were very impractical. But sometimes, one must make do with the shelter one has at hand.

That I do understand. And I suppose we'll be doing quite a bit of it here.

From my experience, that is what life is about: making do with what you have and fighting for what you and those around you need.

Asking for more usually results in trouble that no one is ready to deal with, if they're sane.

So I've noticed. It's certainly one of the more complicated things to balance.

Balance is.... difficult, no matter what it is. Honestly, I think that I'm focusing on what it is that will help me survive from one moment to the next right now with most of my sanity intact.

Baby steps, right?

[She looks him over and wonders how to help him.]

Since you're new—and I'm intimately acquainted with how that works here—would you like a tour or just an escort to the nearest safe place within this city?

I suppose I should see the place. I can at least try to figure out where everything is.

Well, your communication device has a map of the city and most of the caves that it inhabits. But a guided tour is always more helpful for points of reference, I've found.

I agree. What do you think is the most important place to know?

The Armory, the hospitals and the temples are going to be the best places for you to know.

[And she's serious about that, friend. As a heart attack.]
