Intro Log: Rock This City

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

I'm Serah. ( That nervous smile gets one back. This place may be confusing and not where she expected to be, but the people seem nice. And that's one advantage in all of this. )

I'm sorta used to confusing now.

( Her words are accompanied by a laugh. Really, it's hard to call anything in her recent days anything other than confusing. Maybe that helps. )

Fair. If the job's been open for so long, no one must want the responsibility. Which, like I said, totally fair. If I'm forcefully trapped in this place, I don't want to be bullied into workin' too. Let me work on my tan a bit longer.

And sure! Most of the one bedroom apartments have all been scooped up, but there's a handful of three bedrooms that are open. You can look for a couple of roomies.

Some shit's called the Null. And ugh, why does no one know what a lich is. Beings of pure magic? Sealed their souls to it and now they vore emotions to survive? Seriously. Did only I have to deal with this crap back home? Everyone else out here without some fantasy hoover emotional garbage but not Taako, no, fuck that.

[Sorry Aloy, this is much less about your question now.]

From my experience, that is what life is about: making do with what you have and fighting for what you and those around you need.

Asking for more usually results in trouble that no one is ready to deal with, if they're sane.

Okay. Um...

[She pauses, considering, and then says a short sentence, about five or six words. It doesn't sound like anything specifically human, but it's lilting and melodic, a little like a Romance language.]

But now you have to guess what I said.

Well, uh, it's sort of how Rey and I became friends? She used to know someone who was a friend of mine, uhm, from b-back home. But he left, so, it's... just us, now! I mean, not that it's bad, but uh, yeah. So maybe not in the traditional sense...?

[She's also kind of a party wallflower, so.]

I think they wanna kill those so called gods. And anyone they think is workin' with the gods, I guess. Tried to pit the people here against each other 'round the time I came here so they ain't exactly on our side. [She chews her lip and shrugs.] I think we got most of 'em taken care of, but that don't mean we won't see the Null again.

So I've noticed. It's certainly one of the more complicated things to balance.

You think he's a "Picasso"? I was thinking more "Clawed Monet". [It's a pun, Yusuke. Let her have it.]

W-Wait--Three months?! That's not...We were in a van, heading to take Akira home when I last saw you. Was my cognition wrong?

[Oh no. Could someone mess with cognition at that level? What if they could...The thoughts were causing her to spiral, a small bit of panic starting to rise.]

I am the slowest of beans, no worries!

Mhm. Fu-ta-ba, that's me. [At least, even if he found it a bit weird, Richie was able to pronounce it. That's a fair deal better than most people she's met in her lifetime.

So...You'd know a bit more about this place. Any advice for a newbie?

[She's quickly figuring out where Richie would place in this world. He was definitely above an NPC role--far too interesting and helpful. But some of her "party" was here...Mm, she might have to start thinking outside of video game terms while she was here, or this was going to get complicated quickly.

She had gotten lost in her thoughts, but the strange accent kind of brought her back out of it. Futaba looks at him strangely for a minute before she first snickers and then bursts into full-out laughter.]

W-What was that?

Mhm. [She tilts her head to one side, studying him further. It's strange, meeting him like this. She could have almost counted him innocent if she didn't know the truth.]

We're from the same world...You worked with my team once. It didn't exactly end well.

[codeoracle]

I find vague works to start--you tend to get more specific once you get the basics down.

[There's so much she could learn about this place, given the time. It's hard for her to choose just where to focus first.]

...Kind of got distracted trying not to get eaten. Is that thing actually helpful?

[She's the kind to skip over tutorials in-game and then scream about not knowing what to do.]

[The hair ruffle earns a small pout and narrowed eyes as Futaba reaches up to smooth down her hair again. But the irritation is minute and fades quickly at the mention of a place to stay. She doubts Akira or Yusuke would realize just what they were getting into, living with her, but she wasn't about to turn down a chance to stay with people she actually knew.]

Sure. Is it a step up from an attic space?

[puzzlingly]

「He nods at that.」

I get it. I'm glad you're not alone.

「But he's not sure about that, even among others, one could still feel certain solitude, or maybe it was just him. He doesn't know.」

[puzzlingly]

"It's called sarcasm, my friend. You're everything but humble." Was there something like good sarcasm? He's not sure what he's even saying, really.

"I don't know, what do you think you teach me?" Oh wait, but... "You're a smith here too?" This is news to him!

"But, yeah, my partner loves burgers, I think that rubbed on me." That is a little vague, he cannot read minds anymore! "But if you and your elf friends can make something taste like that, you should put a restaurant or something, you'd always have clients." Like the fire pit, but better.

[deathstouch]

Fast enough.

[ Aric answers, he can run faster than the average human and being immortal not much could stop him or slow him down anyway. ]

Curufin laughs appreciatively. It is certainly true that he is not humble! And he loves sarcasm, good or bad. Though he'd consider that Atem's sarcasm is good -- he uses it to point to truths, not to attack people.

"Yes, I'm a smith here, too. I was one in my own world, just as my father was, and my son Celebrimbor is as well. And I can teach anything I know. It just depends on if you're interested in any of it. I'm about nine kinds of craftsman -- metalsmith, jeweler, stone mason, carpenter, architect, mechanic. And I know weapons, of course -- sword, bow, spear, and now these modern weapons as well." He smiles. "What else? -- oh, I sing and play several instruments, and I dance." Grin. Dancing lessons, anyone?

Cooking is not his most stunning skill, but he's competent.

"If your partner likes burgers, and you do too, we could cook some at the firepit. I'm guessing they'd taste good grilled. But we'd have to figure out which tunnel creature tastes most like a cow. And then I could go hunting for one."

The idea of an Elvish restaurant is an entertaining one! "Can you imagine me as a restauranteur?"

Curufin would most heartily agree that Kate's method of keeping warm is a better way! Besides, he wouldn't want her to work her fingers to the bone -- she does that all day, every day.

"I suspect my brother Maglor simply asked our cousin Elrond to come and attend Maedhros. Elrond is a remarkable healer himself. Our family tends to keep things in-house, as long as we can. But thanks for the offer -- if he doesn't wake soon, I'll see that word gets to you, and you can send somebody. If Elrond doesn't succeed, maybe somebody else could."

He tilts his head curiously as she broaches her second topic. "A friend of yours fell asleep like this? Who was it? I don't think Maedhros talks to the gods at all, though, so that's probably not it. Did your friend try to make some sort of bargain with them?"

[dragonsgrasp]

Terrible? Is it truly so awful here?

[And did Kain really just say that? He realizes he actually, legitimately did, which... he never could have imagined himself doing, given a lot that's happened. But seeing the sky has revitalized him in some ways. Despite how weird and off he's felt at times lately, things are still... better than before.]

I... Hm. I guess I may know what you mean. But I don't know if there's much to talk about, if you'd truly rather talk about me...

[ For as stupidly reckless and impulsive as Rose is, she's had quite a bit of time to be a little learned. Besides music, she enjoyed especially knowing more about other mythologies. Philosophy was a fun topic, too. ]

That sounds truer to life. Even as fucked up as it is. But I can see why that isn't the one you'd want to tell children these days.

[ Hearing that names takes some of the wind out of Eddie's sails. He's pretty sure he's heard it before, though as to where and how is eluding the kid right now (sorry Ignis, it'll come to Eddie shortly).]

The food here? No idea, other people tend to come up with it. I think they grow it themselves, or they did before the Null thing happened. I haven't really thought about it much but now I'm going to because if it's coming from that water I'm probably going to come down with some shitty disease.

[ Shrugs.] Your name sounds familiar.

[A soft, amused sound is held in the back of Nil's throat at that response.]

So have I, but one man's professionalism is often another man's brutality. Subjective observation can be such a fickle thing.

[Bad puns are always a win for Yusuke. He'll accept it.]

No, no, it's nothing to do with your cognition. It's more that-- [How had Ann explained it...] Sometimes people are brought here from different times, as well as different places, and time moves differently here to how it does at home.

[Which doesn't really make sense, but Yusuke has just kind of accepted it, the same way he goes along with most things. He taps his chin thoughtfully.]

I don't remember anything about a van, however...

[ Good question, and he should have anticipated it coming to bite him in the ass. His gaze flickers, briefly, because he's not one for detailed life stories anyway -- that's just the way he is. ]

Lucis. On Eos. [ He clarifies. Lucis his kingdom, even if it's now fallen, its people scattered and much of its territories swallowed by Nifleheim. Insomnia his home, burning in his absence. He rubs at his face, sobering up. ] Kinda hoping I can get back to it again real quick.

[ He pauses. ] Westeros sounds like a nice name.

( ignis looks worried, a reaction he isn't quite prepared to deal with, and prompto can't help the slightly bewildered note that creeps into his voice when he answers. ) Probably together with Aranea and me since we kinda all showed up together in that weird town at the same time? You disappeared again from that place a couple of months back though, so I thought you came here after that — unless... you didn't?
