Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Something about those words send a chill down his spine and make his stomach flip with anxiety. What? No one should know of those things... He clearly must be talking about something else, right?

He shifts uncomfortably on his feet. He does know Yusuke to an extent, but certainly not personally... And yet...]

I'm sorry, have I personally offended you in some way?

[Silently, his heart beats a little faster in his chest. There's no way for him to know. He's the only one who knows how to traverse that world, he's sure of it...]

[The discomfort doesn't go unnoticed, but Yusuke simply crosses his arms, fixing him with a sharp stare.]

I hope you don't honestly think I'll fall for that. You and I both know what you've done, and it goes far beyond causing offense.

[Even if Yusuke doesn't understand why he did it, he understands full well that he did. He can't let this go, not without trying to get some kind of answers.]

[??????? Kitagawa can't possibly know about the Metaverse, right? And he's acting... very personally affronted, besides. Akechi's mind is scrambling for what he might have done to directly affect the artist, but he's coming up blank.]

I... honestly don't know what you're referring to... Kitagawa-san, was it? But I'm sorry for whatever it was?

[??????????]

[Yusuke grits his teeth, his hands clenching into fists, and it takes all of his willpower not to call Goemon then and there. He needs to restrain himself, particularly when Akira isn't in any immediate danger. Still--]

So you're sorry for the mental shutdowns? The murders? You're sorry you betrayed out our leader and made an attempt on his life? I don't know why you're pretending to be some innocent stranger, but it won't work!

[ah

His eyes widen and inside, he's reeling from that proclamation, though he hurriedly assures himself that this boy has no proof of his accusations.

It still feels like ice water being splashed over him.

... but betraying his "leader"? Making an attempt on his life? Is this boy simply mad? He'd noticed he was a bit quirky, true, but he'd never expected— this.

For a long while, he's simply quiet, staring at the boy who's practically seething before him, eyes searching his gaze. Whatever he's saying, he honestly, fully believes it...

What exactly is going on here...?

What's more is he's acting that Akechi should be fully aware of this, and that he's faking not knowing, which is particularly grinding against him.]

Kitagawa-san. [He says the name evenly.] Aside from it being rather bold on your part to suggest the detective working on the cases of the mental shutdowns is perpetrating them, I have no idea who this "leader" is that you're speaking of, and nor have I made an attempt on anyone's life. And as for pretending to be an innocent stranger, I'm surprised that you would even consider us acquaintances, given that I've spoken to you perhaps a couple times at most.

Now, are there any more baseless accusations that you'd like to throw my way?

How dare you--!

[Yusuke snaps in return, feeling cold anger searing in the pit of his stomach. He hasn't heard such barefaced lies since Madarame, lies that were so frequent and persistent, it seemed easy to believe they were reality, and that the truth was an inconvenience, an irrelevance. Being faced with such shameless deception now only fuels his anger.

Yet -- the more he thinks about it, Akechi might be a liar, but feigning ignorance, even after they had worked as a team? That seems too farfetched even for him. And this is Hadriel, where things behave in strange ways...]

Do you truly not remember anything? Not even all that time we fought together in the Metaverse?

[... for a moment, Akechi looks somewhat disturbed. There's no reason that he should have anything more than a passing acquaintance with Yusuke, and yet he obviously seems so certain that they'd even... spent time together in the Metaverse.

He's never experienced memory problems before, but... was that a possible side-effect of coming through the door? He hadn't read of any such thing on the welcoming guide, and indeed, Yusuke certainly doesn't seem to expect his having forgotten...

But there is a clear dissonance here. One that he isn't willing to simply discount as inane ramblings, especially given the use of that very specific term.

He gives a sigh, and gestures laxly with his hand.]

Please, enlighten me. Exactly how did we fight together in this "Metaverse"?

You... really don't remember.

[Yusuke narrows his eyes. He had wanted to test him, to see him trace of something that would make it clear this was just an act intended to make Yusuke drop his guard, make him trust him again, something. Yet Akechi only seems genuinely confused and alarmed...

He shakes his head, finally, at the question. Yusuke has someone to protect, and that takes priority over getting Akechi up to speed with his own backstabbing and conspiracy plots.]

If you've lost your memory, I'm under no obligation to help you, after everything you've done. If you're a detective of any merit at all, you'll figure it out on your own.

[Now it's Akechi's turn to feel aggravated. This boy clearly knows about him, and yet he's deliberately withholding information?

...well... he supposes he can't expect much, if he really did threaten a person of importance to him like that.

Dryly, he responds:] Charming. I suppose we've no further business, then.

Good day, Kitagawa-san.

[And he'll be moving to walk past him, now.]

...

[Yusuke simply watches him take his leave, giving him a cold stare and not bothering to return the false pleasantries.

...Once he's given Akechi the impression he's let him go, however, Yusuke decides to try following behind him at a safe distance. Time to put those Phantom Thief skills to the test, to make sure Akechi really isn't up to anything immediately shady or dangerous in this world.]

[Nothing shady here. He's definitely a bit disconcerted by what he'd heard from Kitagawa, but... there's not much he can do for it, if the other boy isn't even willing to disclose anything.

So for now, he's walking around... taking in his environment. Silent, assessing... stressed. Every now and then, a terse sigh will slip past his lips, fingers pressing to his face briefly when he believes no one is looking. And then he continues on.]
