Intro Log: Rock This City

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[She crosses her arms.]

Jesus. Well, thanks for not setting him on fire, I guess.

[requiemshark]

We agreed no fire. And no guns.

[evocation]

You guys are so fucking weird, you know that?

[requiemshark]

[Ephemera blinks.]

How is that weird?

[evocation]

Because two months ago you wanted to kill him and now you're like... making rules on how to politely kick each other's asses?

[requiemshark]

[She has a point. Ephemera shifts from foot to foot, wondering if he can explain it.]

You always have rules for sparring. I mean. Yeah, a month ago I wouldn't have been able to follow them.

I dunno. Things are different now.

[evocation]

[She frowns a bit, studying him.]

Different how?

[requiemshark]

[Ephemera hesitates.]

It doesn't hurt so much, looking at him. I don't see my friends. Not all the time.

[evocation]

Oh.

[That's something she never expected to hear.]

Uh... What do you see?

[requiemshark]

[He's quiet for a long moment.]

A soldier.

[Like him.]

I miss them. Sometimes I wake up and I forget they're gone for a minute.

[He meets her eyes, expression serious.]

Before I came here, I wasn't much of a person. Maybe I'll tell you about it sometime. But I needed somebody to be responsible, somebody I could get my hands on. Even if it took me years. And...maybe I don't need that anymore.

[evocation]

[It's nice to hear—not just for Wash's sake, but for Ephemera's too. Kyna stays silent, considering it and not quiet meeting his eyes.]

I get it. Why you needed to blame him, I mean.

[She still doesn't think it was completely fair, and she still thinks he might be subconsciously twisting things so that he can blame Wash for them, but if someone was at all involved in killing Nico, she knows she'd do the same.]

[requiemshark]

Yeah.

[Doesn't make it right. Ephemera sighs, running a hand through his hair.]

That's not on you. I'm sorry you keep getting stuck in it.

[evocation]

[She shrugs in response, smiles just a little.]

I guess I'm kind of stuck with both of you jerks, huh?

[requiemshark]

Looks like.

[He's quiet for a moment.]

You okay with that?

[evocation]

Yeah, but only if you don't screw up my boyfriend's face again.

[requiemshark]

[Ephemera winces.]

It shouldn't have been that bad. I only cracked him once.

[A pause.]

....point taken.

[evocation]

Yeah, yeah.

[She'll let that one go.]

How was he? When I was gone, I mean.

[From the state of his face she's guessing "not great", but they didn't really get into it, and she's worried.]

[requiemshark]

[Ephemera's starting to wonder how many other people took Washington up on his offer. More than a few, it sounds like.]

We didn't talk about it or anything. But. He wanted to fight real bad. Tried to get me pissed instead of just asking.

[evocation]

[Oh, Wash. Kyna bites her lip.]

So... not good.

[requiemshark]

Not good.

[Ephemera looks away. Kyna understands Washington better than he ever will.]

He's lost a lot of people.

[evocation]

[So has Ephemera. Kyna's not sure if this is an awkward conversation to have with him, but she thinks there are some things Ephemera does understand about Wash better than she can, if only because he's experienced them.]

Um... What would you want Drake to do? You know, if he went home and came back.

[requiemshark]

[That's a hard question. Ephemera is quiet for a long moment.]

Give me time. But stay close.

[evocation]

[Hmm. She thinks that sounds right. It's worth a shot, anyway.]

Okay. Thanks, Ephemera. And thanks for not actually hurting him.

[requiemshark]

I'm glad you're back.

[He means it.]

I'll see you around.

[evocation]

Me too. Kind of.

[Which is a strange thing to say. Maybe she's not really glad to be back. Maybe she's just glad to see everyone.]
