This time, it's different.
There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.
Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.
But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.
Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers January 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[Yeah, that sucked.]
A lot. What do you like? Sweet, spicy, straight liquor? We've got wine and beer, too. All made here.
[She's a little behind on their stock since she's been... out of "commission". Having the extra work to keep her occupied is more of a blessing now than ever, though.]
no subject
[ A pitiful attempt at a joke, tired smirk to go along with it, but she knows it's not that great as soon at it leaves her lips. But that doesn't really matter and she doesn't really care.]
Got some specials?
no subject
[Rey can relate. Most days she can't complain, but these last couple of months have been harder than most on her.]
Mm. Haven't thought about starting a "specials" list. You want something that gets you drunk fast, though... [She pauses.] Been working on this brew from home, or at least something like it. Supposed to pack a punch.
[Even for someone as resilient as herself.]
no subject
You could say that. [ Closer to that sort of month, really.
She crosses her arms on the counter.]
Yeah? Got a name for it?
[ Good choices as always, well on brand for her - after a month of fruitlessly trying to figure out how to get home to her family, everything fucking sucks and it's time to get smashed. ]
no subject
We called it "Battle-ready". It's the sort of stuff some people would drink to get themselves amped before combat.
Not that they'd get blitzed and then go pick up a gun. But it works fast and has a low risk for hangovers.
no subject
[ Not that she wants to think about those times. Not that she isn't sure some people found a lot of colorful ways to be less than sober on the battlefield.
But those days are behind her. The worst things she's done that lead her to the best thing in her life, which she's trying to hard to get back to.
Right, that's why she wanted to look for drinks in the first place. ]

[Rey didn't really peg this woman to be a soldier type from appearance alone, but not everyone looks the part. Sometimes that's for the best.]
How about an Old Fashioned? [That's probably a better one for someone to start with, anyway.]
no subject
But here's the things about wars and drafting: you find a lot of different people fighting a battle they may or may not really believe in. ]
Sure, hit me.
no subject
All right. [She puts together the mixture: Sugar, bitters, and some of the best bourbon she has to offer. With the large cube of ice, it looks like a fairly nice, though basic, golden drink.
[Now readied in a glass, she slides it to Alana over the bartop.] Here you go.
no subject
[ It couldn't be said that Alana's drafting wasn't a choice, but it was an alternative to a shitty situation, so, she took it. Maybe one day they'll talk about it. Isn't that a thing bartenders are usually good at? Getting people to talk about their lives?
He takes the glass and takes a sip, for a moment cringing and holding a finger against her mouth. ]
Damn. [ A light cough. ] Goes down smooth.
no subject
Ah, good. We make our shit here rather than one of the gods providing for us, so it's not always consistent.
no subject
They--are they the ones controlling the stores?
[ With such a small town, and all of the magical clusterfuck going on, Alana hasn't really taken time to consider the economics of this place. She can probably have that one, considering general priorities and stuff. ]
no subject
[At least Rey doesn't need to rely on him too much. She can't say the same for others.]
no subject
What about the others?
no subject
[Yeah, she's never letting her hatred for Love go.]
no subject
Is any of them in charge of, huh, people? Or watching that door thing.
[ She's hear it more than once, the part about them not being responsible for who ends up here. But it's worth a try.
Maybe if she asks enough times, she'll get the answer she wants... ]
no subject
Hope probably has the closest thing to actual responsibility over us. Sorrow was the only one who knew how the Door worked, but--
He's indisposed at the moment. [You know. Too busy being dead.]
no subject
[ The vagueness of "knew how the door worked" makes her unsure, causing her to question. Though the past tense in the sentence also raises some other questions. ]
What happened to him?
no subject
[The Door seemed like a complete separate force from whatever the gods are and what they deal with.]
Guess he was killed by Delight. Wasn't there when it happened. [Rey had enough of her own problems at the time.]
no subject
[ Alana gives her glass a vague look, before going in for a second try. It doesn't burn as bad this time. ]
...this is all pretty fucked up, right?
no subject
[In many ways, Rey would say that she's better here. She's not getting dissected by a synthetic psycho -- though the Null don't fill her with much confidence that that'll stick.]
no subject
[ Se may not know exactly what Rey's talking about, but she sure relates.
Though, right before now, before here? Things were pretty okay for a moment. Fleeting as they are, that's what makes her the most upset.]
What's your story, if you don't mind me asking? Sounds like you got one.
no subject
[Rey isn't going to pretend like she is special for having the problems she has.]
Let's just say that having a race of killer machines at my back is hardly anything new. They're different from the Null, though. A lot different.
