Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Newt is hanging out on the outskirts of the arena, just kind of watching. He came out here to study the new monsters this month, maybe take a couple home with him if they're small and manageable like the salamanders, but man, he's really struck out with this elementals. It took him all of five minutes to realize they're just animated rocks, basically, and you can't dissect a rock. He's a biologist, not a geologist. This is a bust.

He's waiting for a good opportunity to leave when he spots this new girl sprouting vines out of nothing? That's decidedly more worth his time than these stupid rocks.]

Hey! [He calls out to her from behind some rubble he's been using as a bunker.] What'd you just do there? Was that magic?

[Magic is a new concept to him, but he is very eager to learn.]

[Evangeline hadn't realized that someone else was out there. That someone else had seen what she'd done. The fact that she'd been startled takes a lot out of her. If only because she doesn't want the Empress to slip through. Doesn't want to find out what would happen to this stranger. Though she does keep the vines protectively around herself, almost encasing her.

The stranger was flesh and blood, but not rock. Which meant that if he wanted he could harm her far more. Or perhaps he was the one controlling that thing.]

What's it to you?

[Sorry, Newt, but you're hiding. So, in her eyes you've got control of the rock creature.]

[Man, he wishes he could control the rock creature. Since that thought super hasn't occurred to him, he's startled by her standoffishness. Wow, lady, what's your problem?]

Uh, just wondering. Tons of people around here can do magic and stuff, but I'm not one of them. It doesn't exist where I'm from. [He gestures at the vines surrounding her.] Looks useful, though.

[Her world was hell and he's hiding, like someone who was in control of a some strange creature. So she watches him like a hawk even as she keeps the vines up in order to keep the creature away.]

You didn't create these things? You're not controlling them from your hiding spot?

[There's like a full thirty seconds of silence from behind Newt's rubble pile.]

No? I mean, that'd be awesome, but these things are just monsters that the Door pulled in with you guys. Assuming you're new here, and I'd bet money that you are.

[She doesn't relax completely when he mentions that he wasn't the one that built the monsters. That he wasn't the one who was controlling them. However, she's still wary. What if he was like Arthur or Guthrie?

She shakes her head.]

I am. We should go before those things manage to break through the vines.

Uh, yeah, good idea. [He pops up from behind the pile, scrambling over it to jog over to her.]

I came out here hoping the monsters this month would be good for studying, but uh, not sure I can do much with these guys. [Rocks aren't great for biologying.]

But I don't have any fancy magic tricks up my sleeve, so you're gonna have to play defense. My plan was to just, uh, wait it out. [He jerks a thumb back toward his rubble pile. He's a strategist.]

[It's weird to be out here like this, protecting someone else. That's what this feels like. A mission to protect and it's something that she can do. Though she gives a bit of a nod to what he's telling her, even if it makes no sense. Why come out to study things that could kill you? This? It'd be a time for Lark's animals. Less likely to get killed.]

Just keep walking away until we're out of its reach and I'll keep putting a barrier up.
