Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for January
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: January 10th-14th
Warnings: New folks, rockin' dudes made of rock, and collectible friends!

This time, it's different.

There's no cave, no stone walls looming up around you and overhead, no stifling air or artificial light- not that you'd appreciate it, seeing as to how you've probably never been here before. And still, when you land facefirst on the dirt ground of the colosseum, you may not quite appreciate all the improvements and steps we've had to take to get here- after all, you're still surrounded by strangers in a crumbling city on an alien planet in the middle of nowhere.

Oh, and you're being attacked by Earth Elementals. These creatures are tall, between seven to ten feet, and made of solid rock, capable of punching through all the squishy bits of you- and for whatever reason, they definitely want to start punching. They're incredibly strong and, seeing as to how they're enchanted alive and have no internal organs, they're very difficult to kill.

But don't let that scare you off. For all the collectors in you, you can also find a very special array of beanie babies all scattered at the ground at your feet. Do you know that some of these things will be worth a lot of money someday? Better find the rarest one and stockpile it while you can! You might run into the rainbow crab, the platypus, or the sought-after bald eagle, or many more! Be sure to never take the tag off and never ever let anyone play with them so they don't lose value.

Once you've got your kids' college fund squared away, it's time to start exploring! You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Give him time, and he'll become accustomed to the fact that magic is real enough in some worlds and can be used to devastating effect. Right now, he doesn't want to put his life on the line for the sake of some ineffectual chanting.

Going out like that would just be embarrassing.]

If we can cause a distraction, we can get around it.

( No one chants, gosh, Nil. This isn't Vanille's religi- oh wait that's not for another game never mind.

But regardless. Serah glances around, eyes catching debris from the wreckage that is this broken Colosseum, and flicks her gaze back to Nil. )

If we throw some rubble, then maybe...

( They'll get distracted by the noise? )

[It doesn't occur to Nil that he'd like to be proven wrong, given how quickly she backed down. Casting real magic would be quick enough to change his mind, how ever much he might try to explain it away at first.]

Perhaps.

[He isn't certain they are the types of creatures to be distracted by a bit of rubble, but it works on the machines. Maybe it will work on these things, too. Nil finds a piece of stone easily enough, weighting it lightly in his hand.]

Run when I tell you.

( She could have argued it, but hiding behind a wall with monsters figuratively breathing down your necks probably isn't the best time to protest the existence of magic. )

Right.

( Running she can do, if this works. )

[He could be summarily silenced by an actual display of magic, but the fact she presents nothing only reinforces that initial belief that it would be little more than chanting.

If he had the capacity, he might feel a little bad for her.

Nil waits for an opportunity, then nods sharply--] Now. [--and darts out of cover.]

( Serah doesn't waste much time. Her reactions are surprisingly quick - not as immediate or polished as someone like Noel or Lightning, or even Snow, but they're good. They've certainly been good enough so far in her journey across the timeline.

Darting out, unfortunately, manages to attract the attention of one of the golems, slowly making its way towards them. The lumbering noise of footsteps and the grinding of stone enough to startle Serah, who just about bites her tongue on a noise of surprise and instead gathers her magic, jumping back as a small blizzard surrounds the massive thing.

What was that about chanting, again? )

[He doesn't care about her, and if she falls behind it most assuredly is not his problem, but he glances back just in time to see the blizzard fly from her hands.

Nil turns, steps back, and stares. Not one for oaths, he finds the phrase 'what in the Sun's name' is very apt at this point.]

You could have mentioned that.

( Well- )

I tried to tell you.

( #srynotsry. But more to the point- )

We should keep moving.

[When she said magic, this was not what he had in mind. This is the kind of thing he sees jump from the bodies of machines, or the weapons made from their parts, not from the bare hands of a small woman who calls it 'magic'.]

Very well. [He covers his surprise smoothly after the first few moments. When the situation is less immediately dangerous, he'll ask his questions.]

There will be a way out, it's a matter of finding it.

( There's a few parts where the Colosseum walls look like exits, but the entire place is in such ruins that Serah can't tell for sure if they're exits or just crumbled walls. Which one looks the largest- )

-There. ( She gestures to an arch right of where they are. ) Do you think...?

( It looks too large and deliberate to not be a possibility, right? )
