Intro Log: Mimicry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for March
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: March 10th-16th
Warnings: Fresh meat and fatal sweets.

Rise and shine, it's time to meet your new home! While the two suns overhead might make it a bit of a scorcher, there's plenty of shade to be found around you, so get out of the sun before you burn! While you're at it, you might want to introduce yourself to the others who woke up in the same predicament as you- or just run off on your own, that's cool too.

Be careful though, because you're arriving with a bunch of, uh- inanimate objects? Wait, that's no chair! These are mimics, small gelatinous spider-like creatures that can transform into inanimate objects and then pop out to scare you. If you can keep calm, mimics are no big deal, but if you give them the opportunity they will jump onto your head and suffocate you, before using your corpse to reproduce. Nice!

That's alright though, because if you can survive the mimics then you have delicious food waiting for you as a reward! In a shocking twist of events, the items supplied by the Door have no significant twist, save for the desire to eat every single one you can get your hands on. They're Girl Scout Cookies! Long the envy of boy scouts everywhere, these delicious treats will have you munching away your daily caloric intake in no time!

Just, uh- be careful, as the mimics seemed to have caught onto everyone's desire for these colorful boxes. Approach your cookies carefully!

Once you've escaped the mimics and grabbed some snacks, you're ready for the wider world of Hadriel. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers March 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

armory

Her own suit is a second skin to her, and while there are times when she is certainly out of it, today is not one of those days. Having arrived with the last batch, she has gotten the lay of the land, at least some of it, although she does find the whole situation still to be rather strange. Thankfully she has found those that she knows, and they have managed to keep out of trouble, at least for the most part.

It is the knives that she is looking at, realizing that ammo isn't quite as easy to come buy. A few are picked up as she inspects, putting them back down, before finally finding one that she thinks might work out pretty well. From one hand to the other it's tossed, getting a feel for the weight and the balance. "Not bad. A few more like you, and I'm set."

Ivar has been around for a couple of days now, so he's figured out how to take strange sights in stride.

But this is... what the fuck is this?

He's already by the knives when Agent Carolina speaks, and what he'd intended just to be an impatient glance over his shoulder at whoever else wandered in here with him turns into full-on staring at the—creature? Monster? Person? Who can say.

She speaks like a person, though, so, "what are you?" Anyway, no one in history has ever accused Ivar of being a polite boy.

Her whole galaxy might draw him for a stop if he finds her own appearance to be strange. In this place though, it is more a mixture, with some technology and some things that are far more basic than what she is used to. With the knife moved from one hand to the other, Carolina gives him a look, placing the weapon back on the table.

"Who. Carolina." Which is all she ever goes by anyway, but she doesn't have reason for the Agent part anymore. "The what is armor. ... a suit."

Ivar's attention is drawn down to the weapon, until it is back on the table. He looks up again, at where her face should be, but isn't. "What is it made of?" Certainly no material he recognizes. "How do you see?"

He should probably be returning the introduction, but he's a little distracted here.

Which isn't an easy of an answer as he might expect, or maybe he would. To answer in the most basic of terms, without having to explain every little piece that goes in to them. "It's a Titanium alloy outer shell."

And he must really have no experience with them, as after a pause, Carolina's hands are moving up and back, unclipping the helmet, and drawing it off over her head. It's a flash of head hair as her bangs fall back over her face, partially covering one of the green eyes. "HUD- Heads-up display. It relays information."

Which again, putting it very simply, given the intricacies involved in it. Neutral implants, processor chips, computers... Somehow she gets the impression she would spent as much time explaining that as anything else. Not that she would get that involved in her explanation.

Oh, she is a person under there. He halfway hadn't believed it, before.

But, well, both of those explanations clear absolutely nothing up for him. He squints like he's trying to decide if she's being confusing on purpose, but there's nothing he can find on her face that makes him think so, so he gives up and nods. Over the last few days he's discovered that when people are being incomprehensible, asking more questions along the same vein only makes things worse and makes him look stupid.

So. "Are you going into battle?" If she's so fully armored up, then surely...

It isn't on purpose that her answers are obtuse, but she has no frame of mind for what he knows. Space travel and armour have been around for hundreds of years. Of course she knows that people here aren't that familiar, but breaking it down would take more patience that Carolina has, if she was willing.

Truth of the matter is that it is more like a second skin to her. Even in retirement, it had taken Carolina time to peel back the layers and attempt to act like a civilian. Even that had been a work in progress before life had come crashing down again.

"Preparing for anything." Which is true. "It's not always this calm here."

It wasn't calm when he'd arrived, so he knows that she's not lying, but he is always very interested in such things. More than is healthy, probably.

"What has happened? Tell me." He means please, honest!

A little flicker across her features. Carolina wasn't one to really say please either, at least not at first. After, maybe, but she typically demanded, and expected an answer in return. She did hold a moment though, those sharp green eyes on him.

"I've been here only since the last time this happened, so you'll only get second hand knowledge about most. They seem to mess with your emotions though."

"That, I have noticed." He'd gone to their temples, after all: interested always in gods. But still, second-hand knowledge is better than no knowledge, which is what he's working with right now. It's not his favorite. "What do you mean, last time this happened?"

Carolina hadn't ventured to them, at least not yet. She had been scouting the land and surrounding areas instead. Get to know good places if stuff went back. It was a question on how to count her passage of time, and she had settled for the last time that new arrivals had shown up. "Since these arrivals. They seem to happen periodically."
