Intro Log: Mimicry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for March
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: March 10th-16th
Warnings: Fresh meat and fatal sweets.

Rise and shine, it's time to meet your new home! While the two suns overhead might make it a bit of a scorcher, there's plenty of shade to be found around you, so get out of the sun before you burn! While you're at it, you might want to introduce yourself to the others who woke up in the same predicament as you- or just run off on your own, that's cool too.

Be careful though, because you're arriving with a bunch of, uh- inanimate objects? Wait, that's no chair! These are mimics, small gelatinous spider-like creatures that can transform into inanimate objects and then pop out to scare you. If you can keep calm, mimics are no big deal, but if you give them the opportunity they will jump onto your head and suffocate you, before using your corpse to reproduce. Nice!

That's alright though, because if you can survive the mimics then you have delicious food waiting for you as a reward! In a shocking twist of events, the items supplied by the Door have no significant twist, save for the desire to eat every single one you can get your hands on. They're Girl Scout Cookies! Long the envy of boy scouts everywhere, these delicious treats will have you munching away your daily caloric intake in no time!

Just, uh- be careful, as the mimics seemed to have caught onto everyone's desire for these colorful boxes. Approach your cookies carefully!

Once you've escaped the mimics and grabbed some snacks, you're ready for the wider world of Hadriel. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers March 10th-16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Libary - keep the tdm as game canon?

[personal profile] devilsandangels 2018-03-13 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Alfred has found the fact that the library is in ruins to be a bit sad. He remembers there were many scrolls and documents that had been around back home. His grandfather had had an interest in such things. Alfred, of course, being English, doesn't find them to be pointless. He thinks there is something beautiful to words written down -- permanent in their own way but not indestructible. When one wrote something down, what was written down could not exactly be changed and there is a permanence to the idea. After all, oratory history and legends change and shift with time and in a way are destructible in their own way.

"Not everything that you do not understand is pointless, Ivar" Alfred says, not condescending or even argumentative as he comes across the Viking at the ruins. "Nothing is forever but there is a beauty to things that are put to paper and parchment."

yes!

Ivar scoffs dubiously, sitting down on one of the larger bits of the debris and balancing his crutch against the side of it so he can lean over and pick up one of the ruined things still lingering there. He turns it upside-down, trying to ascertain which way it is meant to be read, and it crumbles in his hands.

Well.

"Don't they write all of your gods' stories down?" Floki had been so very insistent that they burn every last bit of parchment they found in all the churches they raided, and Ivar knows Floki well enough to know exactly why.

"Of course, there are many copies and they are all over the world," Alfred says, well all over the known world. He knows that much from his travels. That there are copies in monasteries all over Europe. It's also true that there had not always been written copies either but there is a permanence to it and an unchanging-ness to the stories.

"Writing things down helps them remain true to their form and not change because of who is telling the story."

Huh. He's right, in that that doesn't sound completely pointless. Not that he's going to concede out loud, of course. Obviously.

"Maybe your stories simply aren't as memorable as ours, that it's needed." It's definitely clear just being a little shit to be a little shit, now: turns out, he's much easier to get along with when he can't speak your language. He flashes a sharp smile at Alfred anyway, all teeth and edges, and makes a point of shrugging like this is his version of friendly. It is, sadly enough. "Did you read any of these before they burned?"

Alfred shakes his head. He knows that Ivar is being difficult probably just for the sake of being difficult. Alfred is mostly okay with that too. He's starting to get used to difficult people, a different sort of difficult than he has been used to.

"Our stories are equally memorable but my stories don't change based upon the bard who's telling it," Alfred shrugs and he looks at the ruins and he does find it sad.

"I would have wanted to but I didn't have a chance."

"What do you think was in these?" Surely, Alfred has more experience with this book business than he does, to make a more educated guess. Even if he hadn't actually read any before they'd been destroyed. Thoughtfully: "These gods don't seem to have priests, so it could not have been their stories." After all, who else would write such things down?

"Anyone could have written the stories. It would not have had to been priests," Alfred says, tilting his head and he's thoughtful as he contemplates it. There are plenty of people here who are literate and could have had the capability to write things.

"From what I have heard not all of it was religious texts. Some of them were stories or information about different subjects... like medicine or other such things."
