Intro Log: Mimicry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for March
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: March 10th-16th
Warnings: Fresh meat and fatal sweets.

Rise and shine, it's time to meet your new home! While the two suns overhead might make it a bit of a scorcher, there's plenty of shade to be found around you, so get out of the sun before you burn! While you're at it, you might want to introduce yourself to the others who woke up in the same predicament as you- or just run off on your own, that's cool too.

Be careful though, because you're arriving with a bunch of, uh- inanimate objects? Wait, that's no chair! These are mimics, small gelatinous spider-like creatures that can transform into inanimate objects and then pop out to scare you. If you can keep calm, mimics are no big deal, but if you give them the opportunity they will jump onto your head and suffocate you, before using your corpse to reproduce. Nice!

That's alright though, because if you can survive the mimics then you have delicious food waiting for you as a reward! In a shocking twist of events, the items supplied by the Door have no significant twist, save for the desire to eat every single one you can get your hands on. They're Girl Scout Cookies! Long the envy of boy scouts everywhere, these delicious treats will have you munching away your daily caloric intake in no time!

Just, uh- be careful, as the mimics seemed to have caught onto everyone's desire for these colorful boxes. Approach your cookies carefully!

Once you've escaped the mimics and grabbed some snacks, you're ready for the wider world of Hadriel. Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[what a good idea, bugging out on the clinic and coming straight to the bar. Law is unsurprised that someone else had the same idea as he did, and really, he could do a lot worse than Kate for company.

He picks out the rum, though, not wine, and gives Kate a nod as he eases into the next seat]

I forgot that there's usually a party around this time.

( The place was seeming overstaffed anyway. A far cry from what it used to be like, from the times where it seemed like all their staff was being dragged back home. Instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel for work, she may as well drink.

It's about the only thing worth doing here sometimes.

Kate shrugs when Law speaks, swivelling slightly in her seat and turning her head to look out at the crowd of people. )

Better welcome than the monsters. ( Petition to change the monthly door opening to booze dropping into the colosseum plskthx. A sip of her drink before she speaks again. ) First time I were here we didn't even have a bar to drink in.

( Kate Delight got revived a couple weeks after you appeared it wasn't that bad. )

Ugh. I can't even imagine not having a bar.

[it's not like he needs the booze to live like some people but times like this he's actually grateful for it.]

This makes seven months for me. More than half a year. I scoffed at people when they said it could be years but time does fly.

( She's honestly stopped keeping track. Between her three years back home and just how long it's been since she arrived back in the city, it's impossible to know. Keeping track of the individual days just leads to madness, in her experience. )

Mm. Most do. ( That time flies is true, though. So much has happened since her first arrival here. They revived each of the gods. The Null became an actual presence and threat. The people here started to understand and empathise with the gods.

They moved above ground. ) Spent the first month here thinkin' no one else were trying to get out properly.

( Which, clearly, she was correct about. /s )

Seems like most don't try. But then, once you're told that it's the Door and no one knows how it works, there doesn't seem to be much reason to try.

[okay this bottle is a little unwieldy, maybe he does need a glass]

I mean, unless you're the kind of asshole that has to prove everyone wrong even in the face of overwhelming evidence. [JACK.]

( Or something that looks like a glass. Vaguely functions like a glass. Who really knows with Hadriel. )

"Everyone's tried but I haven't"? ( Snort. ) Sounds about right.

( That said, Kate's not yet given up entirely on the idea that she could, maybe, figure out a way of seeing the Door, the powers that lie dormant in this city. It's just difficult, and as time's gone by, that particular ambition has become less and less important. )

[Law wanted to until Sorrow died. But, eh. He tips his drink toward Kate]

Clinic looks pretty good.

( An excellent philosophy if you ask her. And besides, if they leave,she has to go back to actually paying for booze. Who wants that? )

Mm. ( A nod. Honestly, it looks better than Kate had expected when they first started working on it in the aftermath. ) Surprised we found as much stuff as we did.

( The Null really took some force to the city, and with Hope in the state he is... )

Well. [not to toot his own horn but he's gonna] I managed to shift enough of the rubble with my ability to find a few undamaged supplies. The others did well putting everything together.

[that's his way of obliquely apologizing for not being more present, but...really, he's not much of a construction worker]

I'll be content with not having to worry about using it for at least a month. Maybe two. The less trouble the better.

( They weren't lacking for construction workers, at least. It made it easier for Kate in the aftermath of working her powers - and herself - into exhaustion. )

Think that'll happen?

( Sometimes it does. Sometimes Hadriel gets so quiet she itches and feels more restless, waiting for the crisis that has yet to appear. Those times leave so little to do, but no one's dying. )
