Who: Delmar + Open to anyone!
What: Now that Hope is recovered, the Bear Hug Bakery is up and running. Whether you want to help out, learn to bake, or just be a customer all are welcome!

On any given day, Delmar is busy at the bakery, flour up to his elbows and a white apron tied neatly around his waist. He's got pies and cakes on display and sweet rolls in the oven and the cheerful yellow bakery smells of spices and baked dough. When he can he greets customers or his fellow workers with a cheerful hello and if he has time to stop and chat he'll ask them what they'd like or about their day.

A sign in the window reads 'All Help and All Customers Welcome!" So if you want to be a baker or just have a sweet tooth, please come on in, chat with your local elderly pastry-smith, grab a slice of cake, or just have a chat with some friends.

[Laura has a lot of practice cooking for Meals on Wheels back in Twin Peaks, so when the bakery opened it seemed a no-brainer to volunteer

Sure? I mean, why not? Which one do you wanna try?

[she cuts a slice, puts it on a plate, and offers it to him along with a fork. the mystery filling is an orchard fruit marmalade which is actually really good]

[Oh, he will absolutely enjoy that. Fruit filling in a cake? This is the best.]

Mmm, god. What's in this? It's like fruity, but- [But he can't identify the fruit. So... it's gotta be-]

Oh, orchard, right? Can't believe someone figured out how to bake with that stuff.

[she's very proud of how it turned out]

It took a lot of trial and error. The orchard fruit isn't quite like anything from home, so I had to figure out what the right ratio of fruit to sweetness was. My first couple of tries were total failures.

Well this one is definitely not a failure.

[He's just gonna. Shove more of this into his face.]

Am I allowed to take the whole thing home?

Yeah, of course. Want me to box it up for you?

It'd be kinda hard to take it home just in my hands I guess.

[she takes the cake, puts it in a white box, then ties a yellow ribbon around the box in a bow and offers the box to him]

There you go. All nice and ready.

My name's Laura, by the way.

[Oh, right, people introduce themselves in normal conversations. Imagine that.

Michael takes the box and gives Laura an awkward smile.]

Thanks. I'm Michael. Nice to meet you. Are you, uh, a friend of Delmar's?

[It might go without saying since she works at the bakery, but he's bad at this.]

[normally, yes. not that Laura has much experience with normal conversations, really.

she gives a disarming smile]

Nice to meet you, Michael. And I'd like to think that I am. Are you?

[don't worry, so is Laura]

Yeah, me and Delmar came here around the same time. We've known each other a while.

[awkward people, unite]

How long ago was that? I know Delmar was already here when I showed up.

[How long has he been here, now? He has to think about it for a minute.]

Maybe about eight months or so?

Two months longer than me. I got here when all the stuff with the Null was really blowing up.

[and back then, Laura hid in Delight's temple without even thinking about anyone else. now. . . maybe, maybe she'd make a different decision]

Oh. Um, sorry you had to deal with all that right away. At least the rest of us kind of saw it coming.

[Since they at least knew the Null were after them. They basically said what they were planning on the network.]

It's okay. I kept myself off the list and wound up holing up in Delight's temple. I'm not a fighter. [but then she remembers that bow and arrows stashed away at home and her efforts against the demon] Or at least I wasn't.

[Laura was too new to care about the Null or the list. if they came back, though, that might be another story]

It wasn't. The worst part was what came after.

I mean, I don't think anyone would blame you. Staying inside was the smart thing to do. Of the ones of us that did fight, not a lot of us made it all the way through.

I guess. It's just weird being normal and being surrounded by people with powers like superheroes and people who can slice the wings off a fly.

No, I get that. All these people with magic and crazy sword skills and stuff. Back home, none of that stuff is real.

[Wait.]

Well, swords are real, but nobody uses them anymore.

Yeah, exactly! It's all stuff out of a movie back home. But here, I get to see it day in, day out. Kinda makes a girl feel a little inadequate.

[but demons back home are very real. they're real here too, now]

Yeah, people running around with a sword would get funny looks back home.

I guess maybe I've gotten used to it or something, but yeah, it definitely makes you realize how lame your world is by comparison.

[He pauses, backtracks a bit.]

I mean, maybe your world isn't lame. I just feel like mine is. Since everyone else can do all kinds of stuff with magic, and here I am, still driving a car and using a lighter.

[Like a loser!!!]

[she laughs and grins at him]

Don't worry. Twin Peaks was boring. One of those small towns where everyone was in everyone else's business. Made it hard to keep a secret. You know how small towns are.

Or maybe you don't? Maybe you're from a big city?

Suburbs, actually. So, kind of.

[He lived in a bigger city before he came to Hadriel, but that's not where he's from.]

Lots of gossip, petty grudges, stuff like that.

All the gossip and petty grudges. All the drama, too. Whether it was over something big, like Nadine Hurley thinking her husband was having an affair with Norma Jennings or something small like who outsold who at the church bake sale. Twin Peaks housewives could gossip like no one else.

[but none of them ever got to the truth about Laura]
