Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

[Kiran is unusually absorbed in people-watching when he hears the offer of food. Blinking, he glances at Serah. He hadn't seen her approach him until she was right there with the plate.

He looks at the pastries for a moment and plucks an eclair from the top of the pile.]

...Thanks. Any reason you're going around offering them?

[after his question, he takes a big bite of the eclair - and suddenly, custard surges out from the other end of it. He hops backward, his mouth full, and glares hopelessly at the filling on the floor. So smooth.]

There's a difference between defending it and saying why people might do what they do.

[ Gosh, Caedra, it's like you don't like...talk to people about their emotions. ]

Though it's true that we can't all be like you.

[ We can't all murder our problems. ]

[Oh you could all be like her and she's certain some day in the future you will be. The Abyss will swallow everything back up into its great maw of entropy and violence even if it's after she has come and gone. She just hopes she can play a leading role in all of that devastation.]

Fine, Charles. I actually don't really care either way. If most people, you or others, prefer to sit around twiddling their thumbs then they will get a lot less accomplished but I suppose that just means I accomplish more. Someone has to.

That's true, you must have accomplished a lot since getting here.

[ In mock-concern: ]

[It's easy enough to keep up by staying airborne but Kate's method of movement is fun to watch. Looks exhausting, though. Maybe not to Kate, but to anyone else who might try something like that.

At least this rooftop is stable. For now. Caedra isn't entirely sure what's going on here or what the goal is. Maybe all of the buildings will uproot and fly away forever and then all these people will be left struggling against the elements.

Or not but that's totally what she would do if she was in control.]

Hope. That's the one who revives people and tries to keep this whole place together, right? Mostly?

[Along with a few other qualities that makes her pretty sure he's everything she hates in one person.]

I have, actually.

[No, really, she has. She's learned a lot about constructs and phones and other bits and pieces of technology and is busy writing up a summary for when she returns home. She's begun exploring the interests and abilities of some of the people here, to determine who is a threat and who might actually be helpful to her goals. And most of all, she did an initial test and found that the Abyss does reach here, even if its grasp is weak. She was able to draw other tanar'ri through. That's big - that's promising. She can send for help. She just has to figure out how to get a message, or herself, through in the other direction now.]

[ aw yay for her ]

Oh? Good for you.

[ Somehow, he manages to sound almost genuine. He isn't, but he sounds like he is. ]

[hardwearing]

God, now you sound like Tucker. Give me those.

[ He's just gonna hijack her chopsticks and try to remember how they work. ]

"It's not the first time in my life I've been killed, and it likely won't be the last. It's always just a minor inconvenience. Some risks are worth taking."

First time dying here maybe, but they found what she already knew - her cocky aggression stems at least in part from the knowledge that she cannot permanently be killed unless her killers make her meet her end in the Abyss. Here, her body was destroyed, and dissolved entirely only to reform soon after at Rage's temple. Therefore there is no danger in death. She had welcomed the experience, in fact, in the hope that possibly she would be sent back there, as would normally happen when killed in a material plane. Instead, she finds herself still here. Being locked in a prison with these mortal creatures brings her less joy than she had initially expected.

You can never trust what Hadriel throws at you. ( or the metaverse. though he says it with a chuckle all the same. )

But if it's curry like this, I wouldn't mind even if it is another trick. What do you say, should we try it and see?

[She stares at him a moment and then shakes her head at her plate. There is nothing to be gained from this and already she has put up with him for too long. So she stands, gathering her dishes.]

Go find someone else to bother.

[And if he doesn't follow that recommendation, well - she doesn't want to cause a stir at this nice party but she can certainly move both of them somewhere else.]

I'll let you try it first. That way I'll know if it's poisoned.

[ Also because he hadn't planned on eating here and maybe it'll be good enough that Akira eats it all.

[ Nah, he'll just wave goodbye and let that be that. ]

God, you're so bad at that.

Now imagine if I was trying it with straws...

[ A little help here? ]

[Kyna holds her hand out for the chopsticks.]

Gimme.

[hardwearing]

[ Yeah, she can have them back. ]

Show me?

[evocation]

[She adjusts the chopsticks in her hands and picks up a piece of sushi, holding it up for him to see.]

Ta-da.

[And then she moves it a bit closer.]

You have to eat it in one bite.

[hardwearing]

[ Wash quirks an eyebrow -- he doesn't get to try again? Okay. This is super cutesy, Kyna, but he'll just take the bite.

And makes a distinctly thinky face as he chews it. ]

[evocation]

[This is the nicest thing they've had in forever. Let her be cutesy! She grins at his reaction, tilting her head.]

So?

[hardwearing]

Um.

[ It's very different and pretty spicy, which he wasn't expecting and isn't used to. His cheeks are pinking a little bit and he can't just swallow it yet, the octopus is giving him trouble. ]

Chewy?

[evocation]

[She's trying to be nice, but it's pretty adorable, and she can't help but laugh.]

That's the octopus.

[hardwearing]

[ He's not super into it, but does get it down and then takes a long drink because that sauce is hot. ]

Is there any that's not octopus?

[evocation]

Yeah, yeah.

[She's feigning annoyance as she picks out another one. This one's just a spider roll, and she offers it to him again.]

[hardwearing]

[ For the record they are not making a habit of this feeding each other in public thing, right? But he'll take it again since it seems to be making her happy and he sucks with the chopsticks.

This is much more his speed. Less hot more savory, and easier to eat despite being a bigger bite. ]

I like that one.
