Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

14th April

[After the earthquakes stopped, Komaeda emerged from the shop he had been taking refuge in and was taken aback by the sight. Not only was there no longer any damage in the city but there seemed to be various buildings in its place. All of them looking brand new and sturdy.

Komaeda looked up at the sky, sighed and sighed in utter ecstasy.]

Ah, is this the extent of Hope’s power when it is fully restored? How wonderful, how incredible! The flowers of hope everyone planted with all their effort have finally bloomed and here is the result! What a marvellous day this is!

19th April – Party!

[Of course Komaeda wants to join in the celebrations! He is not eating much though – just a chicken sandwich that he has only taken one or two bites off. Komaeda does not eat much anyway, if his pale, thin and sickly appearance is of any indication.

He might be sitting in a corner being a wallflower but also with a smile on his face as he enjoys watching everyone. He might be staring at you if you’re doing something out of the ordinary because tact is not always his forte.

Alternatively, he might be standing next to a table, which just happens to be right next to you. And, for whatever reason (did you push on the surface too hard? Or was it random? Or did Komaeda accidentally knock into the table? Who knows?), the table topples over, spilling food on you and him!

Whoopsie.]

[Ellie thought she was balancing just fine, only leaning a little of her weight on the table as she reached for a basket full of bread.

Apparently this wasn't the case, because she's now covered in crumbs and what she hopes is only water, or her shirt is gonna be ruined. She spits and looks down at her jeans, stained with-- jam? - and groans.]

Dude. God damn it!

[She hasn't even noticed the other person affected in the blast radius yet.]

[Meanwhile, Komaeda has ended up with gravy and chocolate sauce, right all over his clothes. He just stands, dazed for a few seconds.]

Well, uh.....that was unfortunate.

[He does not seem very shocked by this.]

Ah—! ( it's a good thing that akira is as agile as he is, and it's those quick reflexes of his that avoid a potato-salad on the floor disaster. managing to catch the bowl in one hand, he's in a bit of an awkward position, eyebrows raised up as he looks at komaeda. )

Some more of that good luck, I take it?

[Oh wow look at all those reflexes! Komaeda's eyes light up in admiration and adoration.] Amazing, Akira-kun! I should never underestimate your abilities.

I mean, it could be good luck at play here although normally that would involve the potato salad avoiding me, not you. Perhaps your talent managed to dodge that? Who knows?

[jocoeur]

( a curt, triumphant— ) Hn. ( is akira's response to the praise, as he replaces the bowl on a more stable surface. it probably was good luck that he'd avoided it spilling down the front of his school uniform.

proficiency +1? ) Well, it would have been a shame to waste anyway, this is some of the best food I've had since I arrived, don't you think Komaeda-kun?

[Since relationships are improving, Komaeda is closer to getting maxing a social link with Akira and Akira is closer to maxing his hope shards with Komaeda and getting the guy's underwear /shot]

It certainly is wonderful! Possibly not quite to the standards of the Ultimate Cook but it's hard to beat that. I certainly haven't enjoyed food this good in a while. [Partly because he can't cook to save his life. But hey, he even might have a tiny bit more than his sandwich.]

Ultimate Cook? You know a guy like that? ( but then, if you're impressed too komaeda, what's with the weak choice of eatin' in your hands? ) You picked something modest still, it seems.

Well, I did....[And when Akira indicates to the sandwich, he just shrugs it off.] Ahahahaha I don't actually eat that much. [As if it's the most natural thing in the world.] It tastes pretty good, though!

I suppose if it's a favourite of yours... ( still, it's so plain— ) Still, I'm actually tempted to bring some of these goods back home. Heh, a heist might be in order, don't you think?

[Heist. Why......oh. Maybe he's joking? Komaeda chuckles at that.] Be careful about taking anything poisonous back with you if you do.

[Also a joke but Komaeda's jokes aren't always appropriate.]

Heh. ( akira's head tips just slightly downwards with the chuckle. ) I'll keep that in mind.

How have you been, by the way? ( last month had been a bit, well, rough for this guy. he's sort of hoping it was better for everyone else. give him some good news, for once, would ya? )

Me? I'm extremely happy! Look how quickly this city has been restored from rubble! Isn't it amazing? This can only be the work of everyone working together. What a marvellous thing to happen!

Yeah. ( and he smiles— looking out towards the crowds of people that had gathered. it really was nice to see things go right for a change... )

[Yusuke is hanging out by the table for most of the evening, and in contrast to Komaeda, is just shoving food onto his plate and eating like this might be the first (and last) good meal he's going to get for a long time. Which, you know, given how unpredictable Hadriel tends to be, he has more than enough reason to think so, even with the city restored.

When he spots Komaeda he heads over, munching on some breadsticks and eyeing that unfinished sandwich.]

Hello, Komaeda-san. You're not hungry?

[And he responds with a wave.] Ah, Yusuke-kun! Well, I'm not really but it's all right. I don't eat that much anyway. [And he'll conveniently try to avoid the topic of him being ill if he can avoid it. That story will just bore Yusuke and probably cause him to get killed somehow anyway.]

Anyway, isn't it all amazing? In such a short time, the city has been restored to normal and it's all thanks to the marvellous hopes that everyone poured in together. Such a beautiful sight to see!

Hmm...? [Yusuke seems a bit concerned, but he's too polite to pry into something as personal as eating habits, so he leaves it at that for now.] Yes, it really is wonderful. One doesn't realise what one takes for granted until it is taken away. But, with Hope returning to the city, things should improve for the better.

[Barring any exceptional incident like another Null attack, but they should be prepared enough to deal with that now, at least.]

[Get four out of five hope shards and then you unlock his tragic backstory, Yusuke.]

Hopefully, they will! Mind you, it also appears that some complications seem to have arisen from all the chaos that happened these past few months. [Delight's comments - not that he trusts her-, that strange Null, Love wanting people to capture that Null, etc.]

Yes, well... I'd be more suspicious if everything had gone smoothly. But for the time being, things are finally improving for everyone in the city.

[and he's not about to look a gift horse in the mouth by fretting over the dangers, when this is at least a small triumph they've earned.]

It wouldn't have gone completely smoothly anyway. Well, not unless something absolutely tragic and terrible happened afterwards! [Because that's how things go in Komaeda's view.] So I'd say that it's a good thing that we didn't have a smooth, uneventful ride, don't you?

By that logic, perhaps you're right...?

[He looks a bit baffled, even as he's slowly getting used to Komaeda's way of thinking.]

But it must get exhausting, expecting the worst to happen all of time.

[At first, Komaeda is about to cheerfully say that it is okay and he gets good luck to make up for what happens.

However, as he thinks about it, his smile fades. Yusuke has hit the nail right on the head. It is exhausting. It is true that good things happen right after tragedy happens and Komaeda has tried to think about those good things to make up for any horrors he has seen but they are never enough to make him feel better, no matter how hard he tries. Not anymore. And, as far as Komaeda is concerned, there is only one way to stop his pointless, never-ending cycle....

Komaeda snaps out of his thoughts, realising that he has let his guard down in front of Yusuke and anxiety fills his heart. A part of him wants to answer the other boy honestly, although the other part makes him afraid of what might happen if he does. Panicking inwardly, he falls back on his nonchalant demeanour.]

Well, it's not that bad. You just have to do is wait until something good happens to balance it all out. And the fun part is that you get to speculate all the wonderful things that might happen! [Which actually isn't very fun anymore but hopefully Yusuke won't notice.]

Even so...

[Riding out highs and lows like that is exhausting, too, even with the good parts. That brief, anxious expression on Komaeda's face makes him regret opening his mouth in the first place, though.]

I'm sorry, I probably should not have said anything. But, I often find it difficult not to be concerned for your wellbeing.

[Komaeda's face fell. It looked like he did not manage to fool Yusuke. However, the second part threw him off further.] You.....do?

[As he said this, he realised that there was no way he could just brush things off and make Yusuke believe that things were not really that bad. What worried him though was what would happen if he said anything further.]

Yes. With everything you've told me so far about yourself, it's hard not to be. Because of your luck, you're always dwelling on "what if"s, both good and bad, and not what is. And while it's admirable to revere hope as a virtue, I...

[hmm, he's not sure how to express this into words. His art is often more eloquent than he is, in matters of the heart. But--]
