Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

14th - 18th

[Not everyone is happy about the monsters being pushed further out of the city. For Nil, it only means a wider area in which nothing is happening, and it fires up the itch for combat and bloodshed that he's been keeping in check, just barely, by the creatures pressing against the borders on a daily basis. The usual tracks he takes move out wider, and his temper with those people he tends to give the time of day to shortens considerably by the time the feast rolls around.

But still, he hunts. The lessened need for it overall doesn't deaden the wish to do it. He leaves the barrier willingly, taking on creatures five or more times his size in rains of arrows and quick, sharp flicks of a blade. When he walks back into the city stained with blood, it's rare that any of it is his.

Inside the city, always close to the edges, he can be found sharpening his knife or fletching a set of arrows. The repetitve motions bring with them a certain level of peace, and it shows in the softened edges of his expression and the dimming of the sharp flames that always burn in his eyes. He might have his headdress off, kept close by his feet, showing the slightly wavy, dark hair usually hidden underneath. At least once, he makes a full circuit of the Silent Hill Zone, observing it as if he's mapping it out.]

19th

[If anyone could look intimidating while also aggressively wallflowering, it's Nil. He goes to the gathering because of what it is, and because perhaps for once he might wish to be around people, but there's a look about him like it isn't a situation he often finds himself in (either by design or not) and it doesn't exactly invite interaction.

At no point does he appear to be eating or drinking anything that's on offer, and it would be hard to say exactly what might be something he would have wanted to see there. Unless he's caught and persuaded to stay longer he'll bow out early, though he doesn't go far...

He'll be at the highest point he can find, watching the feast from a distance.]

19th

[Tucker approaches Nil like it ain't no thing and just continues to much on- hm. Is that raw meat? It looks like a portion of deer leg. Welp.]

So. Why you creepin'? You know somethin' about this party that I don't?

[Nil lets out a quiet scoff. He heard the man coming (luckily enough, since it's never wise to startle him), and only glances briefly at what he's choosing to eat.

He's eaten raw meat before. Sometimes such things are necessary.]

I know nothing about it. Which is why I'm here, and not there.

[nowherewolf]

Well you're not gonna learn much by just staring at it.

[He shrugs.]

You learn more by mingling. Gettin' into the thick of things. If you're worried about it being a trap from the gods, I wouldn't. They can get us anywhere, so why bother?

Do you begin by lecturing everyone you meet?

[At the moment, Nil sees no reason to express his particular concerns to any strangers. When he comments, he doesn't sound as if he's particularly offended or bristling under the questioning, but he doesn't sound impressed either.]

When I choose to get into the thick of things, it's usually for the purpose of bloodshed. [There's a small, not-unpleasant smile at that.] I'm sure they wouldn't want their party spoiled by that.

My dude, this is hardly a lecture. Just some friendly advice is all.

[But Nil's getting a Look for that last comment.]

So your only two options are "kill everyone" or "avoid the party completely"? You don't have like, a "normal human interaction" setting?

[He's being a little less-than-friendly now, but he thinks this dude is trying to jerk him around, so. Giving what he's getting.]

Where you come from must be very lively, if everyone enjoys attending parties as much as you do.

[There's no tension in Nil's voice at all. He isn't a man easily pushed to anything beyond 'mildly sarcastic' and even then, the things that he says always seem to come out as more 'matter of fact' than anything else.]

I've no use for occasions like this. They do, however, offer something for observation.

[Tucker frowns.]

Really? That's not what I meant. No, not everybody parties all the time. I'm just saying: you learn more about people when you interact with them.

[He puts his hands up in the universal gesture for surrender.]

But whatever, bro. You do you.

19.

[Nil isn't the only one not participating in the food and drink. For someone who doesn't consume physical sustenance at all, it's a wonder why Ravine is even here. Perhaps her reasons are like Nil's -- she spends enough time lingering in shadows where no one knows she even exists. That's how it's always been, and what she's comfortable with. But then, of course, that was back when she had a purpose, when she didn't have to mingle with the living any more than she had to. That isn't so much the case anymore.

[So she just... appears. There's no sound to announce her approach, nor even a physical presence about her where she can be seen.]

I see I am not the only one less than partial to these sort of events.

[She speaks with light amusement.]

[Nil's reaction to her sudden presence is instantaneous, but slightly dulled by the lack of any sensation of being in immediate danger. He has a hand on his knife, the hilt loosed, but he doesn't draw it.]

Then I'm making it just as obvious as I intended. [The man drawls out in a low voice, tilting his head to cast his gaze sidelong at her. He drops his hand from his weapon, and loosely folds his arms instead.]

Gatherings like these make people careless.

[It's been a long time since Ravine has ever felt physically threatened by another person. Today is not that day.

[Regardless, she doesn't mind it when she is able to elicit nonviolence in others. She may be a tall and imposing figure, but she wouldn't hurt a fly, let alone the unsuspecting living.]

I do not blame you. People in a crowded setting like this, drinking and partaking in their own selective diets... There's bound to be some need for muscle.

[Shrug.]

I'm not here to protect anyone.

[Does he look like some kind of bodyguard? He's giving off the wrong impression, if that's the case. The fact is, should something happen, he'd relish the combat before he would ever think of deliberately looking to save lives.

It's not a complicated mindset. He doesn't know why people have such a problem with grasping it.]

But, sadly, no one here is a viable target for me. I don't think I'll remain here for too long.

I did not claim that you were, only making an observation that you look as though you're ready for a fight.

Regardless, I doubt that you would find much a challenge among drunks and revelry. Just a thought.

[Nil only lets out a slow, wistful-sounding sigh. He hasn't had much of any kind of challenge while he's been here, save for the once a month occasions when new people arrive. Even then, it's the monsters he finds himself shooting at, not the people.

It's really not the same.]

Not one that needed putting to words. [He comments in return, tilting his head slightly as a nearby group erupts into laughter.] And nothing truly meant by a need for muscle, in that case. Unless you misspoke.

I did not misspeak at all. Some people simply need a beatdown when they get rowdy. And you've certainly more muscle than I.

[More of a jab at the fact that she doesn't have any physical aptitude without a body, rather than her lithe build. But not many would take notice at first place without touching her

[Someone else who tried to throw her down learned that the hard way.]

19th

[Yusuke has been treating this party as an opportunity to eat as much as he can, which is why he has a drink in one hand and a plate laden high with food and snacks in the other. Food was so scarce around here for so long, he can't be blamed for wanting to stuff his face a little, right?

He's moving away from the buffet table when he catches someone wallflowering. Though he doesn't look particularly inviting, Yusuke isn't intimidated, either, so he heads over.]

Ah, a kindred spirit...! Do you perhaps enjoy people watching too? [what]

In a way.

[He replies smoothly and with little hesitation, if with little apparent interest. Nil is wallflowering quite aggressively and hasn't really been bothered by too many people so far, but he doesn't mind conversation...]

But move to the side, you're blocking my line of sight.

[wantsnudes]

Hm? [Yusuke moves out of the way, following Nil's line of sight to whatever he might be looking at.] Has something caught your attention?

[Share your deep observations with him, he wants to get in on this quality people watching.]

You might say that.

[He's been watching someone on the other side of the party for some time now, and he nods slightly in their direction.] Hunters recognise another one of their kind easily enough. That one has my attention.

[wantsnudes]

Oh? [He looks around, spotting the person referred to.] Why not go and speak to them? Or, perhaps you would like me to speak with them on your behalf?

[...apparently he's getting the impression that Nil is shy...]

Oh, I would, had I a mind to. [Couldn't be further from the truth, but Nil is definitely more suited to firing arrows into peoples' throats over talking to them.]

You can learn a great deal about people by watching them. Have you never tried it?

14th -18th, whenever you wanna place it

[It's a routine patrol, nothing more — at least until Henry catches sight of a man covered in blood.

Too much to be a person's, he notes, as he purposely makes his way over to cross paths. At least he hopes so, because no ordinary being survives that kind of exsanguination. It's obviously not the man's own.

He sees good reason to ask.]

What happened to you?

To me? Nothing.

[There isn't a scratch on him, in fact, and the blood isn't the right colour to belong to him - or any other human. More's the pity. He's polite, though and doesn't stroll right past Henry but rather stops, his bow held loose by his side and without an arrow nocked into it.]

You might say I've been making a tour of the border.

[hotspurred]

The border.

[Henry's brows draw in, and he shifts his weight, setting a hand on his hip. A beat later and he cocks his head, as the connection occurs to him. Recently the Guard have been discovering new piles of monster remains popping up. It's not a bad thing in itself, given the danger they pose, but the sheer amount warrants a closer look.]

Is it a habit of yours?

[He gives a small shrug. It could be called dismissive, were it not for the fact that his attention is still keenly on the man in front of him. Almost as if he's assessing the potential for a threat.]

I'm not doing it with the expectation of any thanks. It keeps the mind active, and my bow from itching for blood.
