Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

[Clearly there's something bothering him, but what he's saying isn't making any sense yet. Rey arches a brow, deciding that she'll just have to pry it out of him.]

Didn't realize we were playing a game. [sip] Looks like a shitty one.

[She pauses.]

King of what? Is this another game thing, or...? [Rey might not have gotten that memo yet.]

[puzzlingly]

I don't know anymore, but it wasn't a good game no...

「He turns his head to look at her.」

King of Games! Of this and every other game... I'm a disgrace... I let him down.

「That's all. Good night now.」

[circumitus]

[Nope, the game sucked. Whatever it was. Rey just finishes her drink rather than dignify that with a proper response.]

What do you mean? Let who down?

[Make sense, drunk bro.]

[puzzlingly]

My friend, Kaiba... Wait... no, we are not friends, 「He finally raises his head (don't mind the crumbs of whatever on his forehead.」 I thought we were but I was wrong...

「He shouldn't look so sad about that.」

I wanna go home, Rey.

[circumitus]

[Kaiba? As in the grumpy faced guy she just spoke to?

[Hmmmm. An odd person for Atem to consider a friend. She'll have to ask later.

[For now, Rey just leans over and brushes off some of those pesky crumbs from Atem's face. It just takes a couple swipes.]

No worries. I've had a few drinks but I can still carry you to your place. [Wherever that is.]

[puzzlingly]

「For a moment Atem just stares at her.」

I meant, home, home. I also don't need to be carried. 「Pout.」

[circumitus]

[She snorts.]

You can barely hold your own head, let alone navigate your way out of here.

[You're drunk as hell, bro, and Rey recovers from her alcohol intake easier.]

As for going home... I can't do much for you there. [And she isn't a fan of sharing that sentiment.]

[puzzlingly]

'm fine...

「Hardly, he also leans his head on the table again, sideways, at least, so he can still look at her.」

Well, no, you cannot carry me there...

[circumitus]

No, you're not. You're moody and totally blitzed.

[You know, like most teenagers do, right? So this is normal?]

I can at least get you to a bed so you can sleep off... whatever the hell this is.

[puzzlingly]

I'm not moody, Kaiba is moody... That bastard...

[circumitus]

Two people can be moody.

[But she isn't going to argue. Grumpy-faced guy does look like one of those types.

[Rey finishes her current drink before setting her glass down.] All right. You ready to blow this popsicle stand now? I know I am.

[puzzlingly]

「So many words...」

I dunno what you said but, I'm always ready. Always...

「Except he's about to snooze and drool on the table, probably.」

[circumitus]

[Soon as she notices how close he is to nodding off right then and there, Rey pushes herself out of her seat, sliding her chair back. She promptly takes Atem by the back of his shirt, and wring him onto his feet whether he's ready for it or not.]

Nope, no you don't. Time to go now. Come on. [She starts taking his arm to get an easier grio to carry him with. Stupid kids.]

[puzzlingly]

「Woah! That took no effort at all! Well, no, he was not ready for that! But suddenly being forced onto his feet is, confusing, he doesn't know what's going on!」

Okay fine... Fine...

「He's sure he's rocking this, but in truth he's leaning heavily on Rey, well, heavily is just a word, he's like a feather.」

I think... if I remembered my mom, she'd be a little like you. Mom.

[circumitus]

[Good thing she can pretty much carry him one handed if she has to, he's such a weedy kid. Which she is sure she's going to be the one hauling his weight for the most part, here.

[Being called "mom" by someone doesn't quite have that same punch to the stomach like it used to, but that doesn't mean Rey appreciates Atem's joke. You do remember what she told you about Muscovy, right, asshole?]

Call me that again and you're going to wake up with a shaved head.

[Wouldn't that be funny.

[Okay, they're leaving the party scene now. Bye party.]

[puzzlingly]

Noooo, my hair! 「He looks suddenly terrified! And about to fall because he tries to get away from her, or fight her, who knows.」

You wouldn't! That's just cruel! Reeeeey!

[circumitus]

For fuck's sake...

[Regardless of what he tries to do, Rey's got him pretty effortlessly in a death grip now, one arm over his back and the other trying to keep him from reeling forward to escape or... whatever the hell he's trying to do now.]

Calm down. Unless you want me to carry you. Because trust me, you weigh just about nothing to me.

And having your head shaved isn't that bad. Better than it getting burned off.

[puzzlingly]

「Ouch. But since he cannot go anywhere, no matter how much he's falling or trying to move away, he opts to lean on her again instead. She's not what he would call, comfy, but he's got nothing else.」

... You wanna set my hair on fire? 「That's so season 0 wow」

Do you hate me too...? 「Just like that jerk Kaiba?!」

[circumitus]

["Anymore", he says. You know what, buddy? She's not even going to ask about that one.

[It's Atem's question that gives her pause. Rey just stops at the city street, brows scrunched at the sad, drunk kid like he's just told a completely unfunny joke.

[Well, the unfunny part is at least on the mark.]

What? No! What I meant was... [She grunts and continues walking, not at all deterred by the fact that she's definitely carrying all the weight now. Whatever, Atem's light enough and Rey isn't drunk enough.] Was just referring to a time I accidentally burned my own hair off. Went bald for a while. You'd have probably gotten a laugh.

And trust me, there are a few people deserving of my hate, but you sure as hell are not one of them. You're an annoying shit, but if I hated everyone for that, I'd be living alone and much differently.

[So cut that out.]

[puzzlingly]

「Anymore because he no longer is a ghost, for the moment.

And it seems she got his attention, to which part, it is hard to know as he proceeds to stare at her with those half open, very drunk eyes. And then, he laughs.」

Rey, you need to love your Kuriboh more!

「Yeah, that part. At least he doesn't feel she hates him or anything, that's forgotten... Yeah.」

[circumitus]

[Well, at least he isn't going to cry or anything on her. Rey wouldn't care if he did, but this is already awkward

[Now she's just confused.]

[Atem come on don't so this to her.]

[puzzlingly]

Your Kuri... Your hair, it looks like one!

「Like if it was so obvious.」

You should brush it more. ... Imma get you a brush, for your birthday. That's still a thing, right? Giving presents and stuff... When is your birthday?

[circumitus]

Would help knowing what the hell that's supposed to be.

[See, this is just what she lets herself put up with.

[Rey pipes up for a moment and blinks. Her mouth tightens.] Yes, it's a thing. Not for me, but it's a thing. [Then, before he can ask about that:] It's... the twenty-first. This month.

[Whatever, he probably isn't even going to remember this conversation, anyway.]

[puzzlingly]

I will show you later, he's in my belt.

「That does make absolute sense.」

Not for you...? It doesn't matter! You'll get a brush anyway.

「Maybe he will! Or not.

Not that he's heavy at all but he just lets her guide him kind of blindly because the floor is moving so much that he closes his eyes instead. Good luck.」

[circumitus]

[The phrasing sounds way more troubling than it has any right to be.] No, that's... that's okay. Keep your Kuriboh in your belt.

[Rey, no.

[She just sighs and stops at an intersection between the roads.]

Whatever, do what you want. Where the hell do you live right now, anyway?
