Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

( ah, there he is. akira is almost unwilling to disturb ignis at first, noting that he seems to be enjoying whatever steaming beverage of choice he managed to get his hands on. it reminds him of some of the regulars at leblanc... and a pang of nostalgia resounds somewhere within him.

finally, after what was probably an appropriate time for the brew to have worked some of its magic, he leans in from behind, smiling pleasantly. )

Looks downright enjoyable, just from your expression.

[claritatis]

Ah! Akira--

[Just the man. He would have found him eventually - people who appreciate coffee as much as he does should never be deprived of this experience - but this is very fortuitous indeed.

He picks up another Ebony and turns, offering it out.]

Try it. Go on. Tell me what you think.

[jocoeur]

( looking at it curiously, akira takes the drink in his hands and examines the contents inside... swirling it around a little at first, then leaning in to give it a sniff with a thoughtful— )

Hmm. ( as though he was trying to place it, somehow. finally, he takes a sip, letting the liquid glide over his tastebuds for a little while before finally swallowing. ) It almost tastes like...

( he'd take another swing to be sure, before concluding— ) These beans we once had from New Zealand but... brewed completely different.

( there's a nod in approval, and he smiles giving a thumbs up with his other hand. ) It's good.

[claritatis]

[Had Akira not liked this particular coffee, Ignis might well have had to reconsider his entire stance on their friendship. There are very few things that Ignis is so passionate about, outside of his friends and his duty to them, than he is about this coffee.]

It is, isn't it. [He replies with no small amount of satisfaction.] I suppose I should be thankful for the opportunity to taste it again, but I would be far more thankful for a continued supply.

[Delight's coffee hadn't been terrible, but even that isn't available anymore and Ignis is sadly bereft of coffee that he can actually stand the taste of.]

[jocoeur]

( after another swig, he leans in to smell it again, swirling it around like someone more learned than he would do with a glass of fine wine. wine it might not be, but it sure was fine coffee. )

Still, there's something different about it that I can't quite piece together. ( boss would probably be able to nail it. ) I guess that means I still have a ways to go before I can call myself a pro, heh.

I'm glad to see everyone getting a taste of home but, it's still a bit of a tease, isn't it?

[claritatis]

It is.

[No matter how much of this stuff he manages to hoard away (and even with Noctis pushing the limits of the Armiger with it) there will still come a time when there simply isn't any left, and he's going to have to go back to the poor replacements that he's been surviving on while he's been here so far.]

Though, if the headache I had for the first few weeks after I arrived here is anything to go by, I may have been drinking too much to begin with.

[jocoeur]

Well... ( he adjusted his glasses, looking into the cup as though studying it would somehow reveal its secrets... it didn't, but it still did give him a sense of how thick the brew was. )

Now that I've had the chance to taste it for myself, maybe I can do my best to re-create it for you. It won't be exactly the same of course, but... ( he had a little experience at least? ) Maybe as close as we can get, hm?

( maybe he should take a few cans, too... )

[claritatis]

I'd be indebted to you. [Ignis replies, quite seriously. Some coffee he's had here has been close to passable, but most of it... Suffice to say that if Akira could come even close to what he currently has in his hand, Ignis would owe him a debt of gratitude.]

But I'd be interested in being involved in the process.

[jocoeur]

( indebted? that's a bit much, which is why he waves his hand dismissively at the statement. really, he'd just be happy to be able to try, with how much it seemed to mean to ignis.
he smiles a little at the follow up, though. )

Of course, we can't settle for anything less than a drip brew, even though he's far away I can't upset the Boss.

[claritatis]

[Look, you really don't understand how seriously this man takes his coffee, especially when this is the first time he's had coffee anything more than 'decent' in months.]

The Boss?

[Still thinking to answer to someone even when they're not around? Relatable.]

[jocoeur]

Ah... ( how to explain? ) My— legal guardian, you could say I suppose. Though I also work for him at the café back where I come from. He's... more of a mentor than anything, really.

( because, in a lot of ways, akira looked up to and learned a lot from sojiro. ) If he found out I wasn't using the techniques he personally taught me, I might be in more hot water than the coffee beans, if you get my drift.

[claritatis]

Ah. That would be a bitter outcome.

[Yes. Coffee puns. Ignis doesn't bat an eye and sips the coffee again, letting out a soft sigh against the rim when he lowers it from his lips.]

I would hate to get you into trouble. It will have to do.

[He might just be smiling a little.]

( there's a rush of air from him at the quip.
appreciation, coffee bro, he'll even tip his rim to that. )

So tell me about this— ( he holds up his drink, about a third of the way through it, now. ) Ebony. Is there something special in the beans they come from or is it just... nostalgic? ( maybe you've been drinking the stuff your whole life? either way, akira seems genuinely curious. )

[claritatis]

Mm. Perhaps nostalgia has something to do with it. [A little to do with it. When someone has been drinking the same brand of coffee since they started drinking coffee, there has to be some kind of emotional attachment to it.]

It's partly the beans, and partly the method. Neither of which, I'm afraid, we will be able to reproduce here.

[jocoeur]

But still, I have to try. ( he can't back down from a challenge like that. methods and beans he knows a little about at least, but it's that nostalgia that's so briefly confirmed that has akira more interested. )

Have you been brand loyal all your life? Or maybe it's just... the most readily available? ( something like a sunbucks, maybe? give him a feel for your world coffee situation here, polite bro. )
