Event Log: A Hope for the Future

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Ignis Scientia | OTA

14th - 18th

[The first indication that Ignis has of anything happening, after the initial earthquake, is the piece of maisonry that nearly catches him directly under his chin as he's walking out of a building. How he manages not to utter a curse that would blister the ears of anyone standing nearby is a miracle, and instead he steps carefully out of the way of any other flying stonework to watch the active reconstruction with a curious expression.

Strange powers, these creatures have, for beings that are not gods but style themselves as such. More and more often he finds ways to compare them to the Astrals, and more and more, he isn't sure how comfortable he is with that comparison.

The return of the barrier keeping the predatory creatures out of the city is a blessing in many ways, though it makes things at the Guard HQ almost too quiet for the young royal retainer after so many weeks of activity. Where before, it was sometimes necessary to extend watches and he did so without needing to be asked, each stint in the watchtowers quickly becomes what feels like an exercise in futility. Ignis takes to drawing careful maps of the city itself, including the new additions, from each of the watchtowers as and when he's assigned to them. He keeps them in the HQ for anyone to see, neatly signed with his name. When he's using a desk he's oddly distracted, sometimes spinning a pen around his fingers while his mind is occupied entirely with something else.

Not to worry, though - he's still making sure to bring in food. And with Hope's recovery, it only gets better.

Ignis isn't one to keep to himself and can be found anywhere around the city on these days, just keeping himself busy.]

19th

[In line with taking everything offered to them by the 'gods', Ignis takes the party and everything that comes along with it. Still, as muted as his enjoyment is, it's definitely still there, and far more undeniably so when he finds a particular brand of coffee present amongst the food on display. Even Delight's coffee, pleasant as it was, doesn't compare to what is undoubtedly his favourite drink and the first sip provokes a soft sound of satisfaction that he barely notices he makes. He'd have to locate Akira at some point - undoubtedly he'd appreciate the find.

The party itself doesn't hold too much of his attention, but he stays for the company and merriment, and for the opportunity it presents to observe people that he wouldn't normally see. Ignis is quite subtle in this, being well-trained in how to watch others without being noticed in the doing so, but should he happen to be spotted that person will get a small, polite smile, as if he hadn't done a thing.

While the rest of the food is looked over and sampled (though not all - he doesn't dare touch some of it), he is definitely putting away an alarming amount of coffee.]

19th

[lemontree]

[ Dany has never had coffee, but the scent wafts over to her, and the young queen smiles to see it coming from - at least, near Ignis, who she regards highly. ]

Are you very thirsty? [ She jokes lightly, nodding to the cup, having observed the way he's - well. Enjoying it. ] What are you drinking?

[ It smells good, at least, and she lifts her chin to peer curiously at it. ]

[claritatis]

My enjoyment of good coffee has never required thirst in order to be present. [Ignis tells her, smiling faint and warm in amusement at her question. He glances at the drink in his hand. How many of them has he had so far?

Probably too many. Normal people would be rattling their skeletons clean out of their bodies with how much caffeine is in his system at the moment.]

It's a particular brand from my world. My personal favourite.

[lemontree]

It smells very good. [ It will be too bitter for her, but she doesn't yet know. ] Is there more?

[ That is: can she try? ]

[claritatis]

[It does smell very good indeed, and he doesn't hesitate in offering her the cup in his hand to try. If she doesn't like it, better this than wasting a full cup.]

Here. Careful, it's quite hot.

[lemontree]

[ It is hot, but she seems not to notice as she takes a tentative sip.

Not long after, she makes a face, purely reactionary. ]

It's - very bitter. [ Dany concludes, setting it gingerly back down. ] How can you drink so much of it?

19th

Whatcha got there?

[Whistler gets nosey when he hears the quiet sound of someone indulging in something they clearly love more than life]

[claritatis]

Coffee.

[The reply is mild, not at all guarded in the way that one might expect someone to respond when the answer is something so simple. Ignis considers, then clarifies--]

Good coffee. I dare say the best.

16th

[dedikated]

( She doesn't mind the levitating rubble too much. It's easy enough to dodge if you grew up dodging the floating items of a kid who had yet to fully control his telekinesis, and there's enough large pieces of debris that she can use as almost moving platforms, opening up new paths of travel for a few days.

Which, coincidentally, is exactly how she makes her way back from the shops towards the clinic and guard HQ area, sliding into the watchtower atop the guard HQ with a graceful jump that lands her all but right next to Ignis, contents of her backpack rattling as she hits the rooftop. That is the first thing opened before she even says anything, pulling out a bottle of water and finally saying- )

Hey.

[claritatis]

Show-off. [Ignis murmurs softly around a smile, his fingers curled around his elbows as he watches the horizon. For a few moments, he doesn't turn to look at her, and when he does it's only to check her location so he can idly put an arm around her back.]

Hi.

[And that's that for the greeting, aside from a light kiss pressed to the side of her head as he pulls her against him. It's casual and comfortable, and he rubs his thumb against the back of her shoulder, leaning only the smallest fraction of his weight against her... but doing so all the same.]

[dedikated]

( Who, Kate? Never. She says nothing in response but offers a smile instead, leaning close without any complaint and taking a drink before she offers the bottle to him without words. The silence is comfortable and familiar, and she's not quite willing to break it for small talk, instead choosing to rest her head against his shoulder for those wordless moments. )

Almost looks whole.

( Certainly looks cleaner than Kate's seen it for a long time. Maybe ever. )

[claritatis]

Almost does. [He murmurs, though there's nothing quite content about the way he says it. Ignis is often unsettled by the gods here, and how freely their powers can be (and are) used. It's not something that occupies his thoughts often, but certain now.]

You seem to have been enjoying yourself.

[dedikated]

( Kate's not sure she'd call it freely, when she considers the effort they all undertook to provide Hope with the power to do this. More that the poor sods making the effort for the gods to do these things are they themselves. )

Easiest run in a while.

( With everything being lifted into the air, it's a lot easier to hop from one building to the next, with fewer complicated detours around the destruction of the Null's attack. )

watching stonework?

[ Maglor comes around the corner and ducks under a bit of flying masonry ]

Ignis? [ He blinks at him and eyes the moving bricks warily ]

This is not your doing, I take it.

[claritatis]

[Ignis can't quite help the laugh that escapes him at the question.]

Had I this kind of power, I wouldn't have waited this long to use it. [After all, how long had they spent stepping over rubble and unable to use half of the buildings in the city? Too long, by Ignis' measure.]

We should step out of the way.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor grins back at him and ducks another flying brick ]

Probably a good idea, I think. I would prefer it if they could do this without the flying masonry.

[claritatis]

[Ignis smirks slightly in response and waves one hand at him to bid him to retreat, while he does the same.]

Can you imagine the bedlam if it simply vanished from the streets? Besides, it's an entertaining spectacle at least.

I certainly wouldn't mind much - but we've a few folk visually impaired, I believe, who might be most put out.

19th

Grabbed some for you too, by the way.

[ Noctis doesn't even raise a brow at the fact that Ignis is squirreling away the coffee like he's storing up for winter, or something. Then again, it makes sense -- who knows when a feast like this is going to come along again?

Coming up beside him, he's stocking up his second plate of eggs and bacon and a very obvious absence of vegetables, but he looks pleased to be around him again. He's also mighty pleased about the food, so. ]

Are you trying to find a limit to the Armiger? Asking for a friend.

[claritatis]

Allow me my vices. [Ignis mutters quietly between one sip and the next. He might have a couple tucked away in a pocket, but it is something of a relief that Noctis is thinking ahead with far greater a capacity to put things into storage.

He takes a quick look at the plate in Noctis' hand and can't quite help the sigh that escapes him. At least, though, he doesn't comment on what Noctis is choosing to eat. Not yet, anyway.]

Does the Armiger have a limit? Perhaps it's something we should test.

19th

[jocoeur]

( ah, there he is. akira is almost unwilling to disturb ignis at first, noting that he seems to be enjoying whatever steaming beverage of choice he managed to get his hands on. it reminds him of some of the regulars at leblanc... and a pang of nostalgia resounds somewhere within him.

finally, after what was probably an appropriate time for the brew to have worked some of its magic, he leans in from behind, smiling pleasantly. )

Looks downright enjoyable, just from your expression.

[claritatis]

Ah! Akira--

[Just the man. He would have found him eventually - people who appreciate coffee as much as he does should never be deprived of this experience - but this is very fortuitous indeed.

He picks up another Ebony and turns, offering it out.]

Try it. Go on. Tell me what you think.

[jocoeur]

( looking at it curiously, akira takes the drink in his hands and examines the contents inside... swirling it around a little at first, then leaning in to give it a sniff with a thoughtful— )

Hmm. ( as though he was trying to place it, somehow. finally, he takes a sip, letting the liquid glide over his tastebuds for a little while before finally swallowing. ) It almost tastes like...

( he'd take another swing to be sure, before concluding— ) These beans we once had from New Zealand but... brewed completely different.

( there's a nod in approval, and he smiles giving a thumbs up with his other hand. ) It's good.

[claritatis]

[Had Akira not liked this particular coffee, Ignis might well have had to reconsider his entire stance on their friendship. There are very few things that Ignis is so passionate about, outside of his friends and his duty to them, than he is about this coffee.]

It is, isn't it. [He replies with no small amount of satisfaction.] I suppose I should be thankful for the opportunity to taste it again, but I would be far more thankful for a continued supply.

[Delight's coffee hadn't been terrible, but even that isn't available anymore and Ignis is sadly bereft of coffee that he can actually stand the taste of.]

[jocoeur]

( after another swig, he leans in to smell it again, swirling it around like someone more learned than he would do with a glass of fine wine. wine it might not be, but it sure was fine coffee. )

Still, there's something different about it that I can't quite piece together. ( boss would probably be able to nail it. ) I guess that means I still have a ways to go before I can call myself a pro, heh.

I'm glad to see everyone getting a taste of home but, it's still a bit of a tease, isn't it?
