You wake up on the 14th, and something is different. Maybe it's something small - you can't smell anything, or your hearing on one side seems to be on the fritz. Or it could be something large and impossible to miss - you've gone completely blind, or you seem to be missing a leg. You've lost something, and no matter what you do, you can't seem to fix it.
Will you ever get it back? Probably, but it's impossible to be sure. And even if you're thoroughly convinced that this is temporary, that still means you have to figure out how to live like this for the next week. Even small things can be huge difficulties. Your sense of taste doesn't seem that important, until you accidentally eat something that'll make you sick. And sure, maybe you can figure out how to live without one hand, but what about when you wake up three days from now and you've also lost your magic?
Do your best to keep yourself calm, but remember: it can always get worse.► This log covers May 14th-May 20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If your lost sense turns out to have been essential to your survival, please let us know here.
Bruce Banner: OTA
He goes through the streets carefully, quietly. He approaches the people who seem to need help. He avoids the bar, he avoids the clinic. He doesn't remember what he used to do with himself when he lived here.
Bruce spends the brighter part of the afternoon sitting out on the temple steps, breathing deeply, feeling the sun on his face.
And yes, he will admit, he does feel afraid. His mind is already in such turmoil. Simply ripping out key pieces hasn't clarified the puzzle any. Bruce scrubs both hands over his face, rests his elbows on his knees, and breathes through the sunset, before getting up to go inside.
You probably don't want to be outside in Hadriel at night.

But something's been difference these last few days. She hasn't been thinking calmly about possible dangerous this place holds, and then conducting herself accordingly. She hasn't been thinking about them at all. When she sets out for an evening walk, it's because she wants some air and that's that. Besides, it's not like there are still monsters about. All she needs is something warm enough to wear if she stays out past the suns going down.
The guy she spots when passing by Tranquility's temple only catches her attention because of how distressed he looks. He's not someone she's spoken to before, she doesn't think, and it's probably none of her business, but concern prompts her to speak up anyway as he's getting up. "Hey, are you all right? Is something wrong?"

Another deep breath, because it's reflex by now, not to allow himself to get angry.
"You know how it is, here."

"I'm not sure what's being done, though. Things have been really weird for some people, but I feel fine." Or so she thinks. Elena shakes her head. "It'd be simpler if they just told us about whatever their latest whim is. But I guess they don't care about simple."

she makes her way to the temples. she thinks she remembers the way to Tranquility's temple as it's the one she goes to most frequently to trade tasks for fabric.
as she makes her way up the steps, her stick strikes flesh by accident]
--oh! Hello, there. I didn't hurt you, did I?
no subject
[He promises, scrambling to his feet.]
Hello Margaery. Were you looking for the temple?
no subject
[she stays standing in place, her stick at rest at her side]
Hello, Dr. Banner. Yes, I was hoping that I'd found my way to Tranquility's temple. Have I?
no subject
[He asks, offering her a solicitous elbow, so he can show her inside.]
I've been spending my time here to try to overcome the feeling.
no subject
[he'll have to guide her arm to his since she can't see it]
That's why I came here, too. Is it working for you?
no subject
[Bruce is a big believer in asking.]
It's better in there, yes.
no subject
[she extends her right arm]
Yes, it is. Tranquility has always been kind to me. Sorrow was, too, the time we spoke. He told me that we must prepare ourselves for the return of the Null.
no subject
[It's probably the solution to the bigger problem, as unpleasant as it is in the interim.
He takes her arm, gently, and moves to guide her up the steps.]
no subject
[it is, indeed, given that their time remaining here is limited.
she lets her arm be taken and led up the steps]
no subject
[Checking, as they make their way inside into the calm.]
Tell me what happened from the beginning.
no subject
I answered his poll and then I asked him if it would be possible for me to go to another world when it's my time to leave. I fell in love with a man from Earth and he asked me to join him there. Sorrow told me that it was possible, but we had to survive first. And to survive, we had to defeat the Null once and for all. I'd do anything to go to Matt's world. There's nothing left for me in Westeros and I'm dead there, anyway.
[she holds onto his arm as they go inside]

as she's on her way to Fear's temple, she sees Dr. Banner looking not so great. she assumes she must've lost something, too, but might not want to talk about it. not everyone does. so instead, all she writes on her dryerase board is "Hi, Dr. Banner," and shows it to him]
no subject
Hello. Lost your voice, I take it?
[He winces in apology.]
no subject
she writes "Sure did. It's like they knew what would piss me off the most" on the dryerase board, showing it to him.
then the erases that and writes "Though I'm not sure if anger was the goal. If not, ooops?" and lets him see the board again]
no subject
[He says, as a shudder crawls down his spine. The things he's lost have him pale, and shaken.]
Personally. I suppose there's nothing to do but ride it out.
no subject
"Probably. It'll probably only last a week, though," then she shows it to him long enough for him to read it and takes it back to erase it again.
she writes "What did you lose?" and shows him. there's nothing on her face to suggest a prurient interest, just friendly curiosity]
no subject
[And, drawing in a breath.]
Nothing to do but wait.
no subject
she writes "I'm sorry. That must really, really suck," and shows it to him long enough for him to be able to read it.
then she takes the board back, erases it, and writes "At least we know it's just for now."]
no subject
[He agrees, and wonders;]
Where will you go? Is the clinic being rushed, or are most of the effects nonviolent?
no subject
on her dryerase board she writes "I'm going wherever I find myself." she shows it to him, then takes her board back, erases what was written and writes "Mostly it's been scraped knees, banged elbows, stuff like that. My shift's over anyway."]
no subject
[A tremendously good piece of news.]
