You wake up on the 14th, and something is different. Maybe it's something small - you can't smell anything, or your hearing on one side seems to be on the fritz. Or it could be something large and impossible to miss - you've gone completely blind, or you seem to be missing a leg. You've lost something, and no matter what you do, you can't seem to fix it.
Will you ever get it back? Probably, but it's impossible to be sure. And even if you're thoroughly convinced that this is temporary, that still means you have to figure out how to live like this for the next week. Even small things can be huge difficulties. Your sense of taste doesn't seem that important, until you accidentally eat something that'll make you sick. And sure, maybe you can figure out how to live without one hand, but what about when you wake up three days from now and you've also lost your magic?
Do your best to keep yourself calm, but remember: it can always get worse.► This log covers May 14th-May 20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If your lost sense turns out to have been essential to your survival, please let us know here.
16th
It takes him way too long to recover, and his first reaction is to shove whatever it is off him, anger and frustration momentarily taking over his emotions. But that's useless, of course, he might as well be shoving a wall. And then he realizes it's not a what, it's a who.]
--Ah. Ah, are you alright?
no subject
I'm fine... or I should be, in a moment. [Maybe. He hopes. He's really not too sure.] I apologize if I've caused you any inconvenience. Believe me, I didn't intend for that to happen.
no subject
He frowns a little seeing how the man is struggling and reaches out, putting a hand on his forearm. "Can you move?"
If not, then they're stuck--there's no way Ianchus, in his condition, can push an armored man off himself.
Then again, glancing at the man's face there's probably worse to be pinned under.
no subject
I'm sure it's nothing. My legs are somewhat uncooperative, but... I'm sure it will be fine in a moment. Did I cause you any harm?
no subject
[And Ianchus takes a moment to wriggle himself from under Kain. It takes a bit, even with the man's help, but finally he sits up, putting a hand on Kain's shoulder.]
Your legs? Is it--
[And a wave of dizziness rushes over him, as if he's been hiking up a mountain without food and water for hours. He sways forward, putting a hand over his own eyes.]
no subject
It's nothing. [He sighs, reluctant to admit that it's obviously not nothing. It takes him a moment to continue.] Well... Fine. It's something. But it seems I'm not alone in undergoing... whatever this is.
no subject
Yes, it seems like whatever this is is getting to all of us. For me it's being unable to exert myself the least bit without feeling like I'm going to keel over. And for you...I suppose you can't get up?
no subject
I'm sorry, that sounds like a difficult position to be in. And I... Yes, you're right. I may be able to get up in a moment, but it's... not working so well.
[It seems it's gradually getting worse over time, in fact, a slow decline into... What? Is he really going to be unable to walk soon enough? Ugh, he hates this so much.]
no subject
Let me try to help you up.
no subject
Well... that's... better than nothing. I can somewhat feel them, anyway. Perhaps enough to make it somewhere else, as soon as possible.
no subject
He manages to lift his head slightly, giving Kain a half smile.]
Ah. Good luck, then.
no subject
What if we... try getting somewhere else together? Do you think that might be possible?
no subject
We may as well try. I can't promise anything, though. Try not to lean too much of your weight on me, but. [And this time he really does laugh.] At the very least I'm comfortable to fall on.
[He's not trying to be cynical, the words just keep slipping out. But it really is worthwhile to give it a try. They both have nothing to lose but their pride, but Ianchus has never been concerned about pride, of all things.]
no subject
I'll keep that in mind, and we can take it as slow as we must.
[He doesn't like being stuck in this scenario, but there's no choice except to deal with it, for now.]
But I'm going to try not to fall over, I promise.
no subject
I appreciate the effort. Perhaps we'll manage to match one entire person with our abilities combined.
[He realizes he perhaps went a little too dark there, walks it back.]
May I ask the pleasure of your name? I am Ianchus Cepheos.
no subject
Hmmph. Perhaps so. [But his comment is all too true, unfortunately. Kain attempts to keep as upright as he can, despite how difficult it is to use his legs.] I'm Kain Highwind.
no subject
...I don't think we're going to make it anywhere but a bench, Kain Highwind. Would you settle for that?
no subject
[So he looks over and nods, aware that at this point they're both really struggling.]
That's fair. It seems... it's the most we can do, for now. [He makes a grumpy "hmmph" kind of sound.] How frustrating, to be this useless...
no subject
There's one over there. [He jerks his chin at a bench a few feet away]
Are we taking bets on whether we'll make it, or keel over midway?
no subject
[Though it's pretty tricky to even just stay upright, at the moment, so he may have been giving them both too much credit. Still, he keeps very, very slowly trudging along... The bench is so close! Yet it really does look incredibly far away at the same time.]
