Event Log: Senses Fail

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the Senses Fail event
Where: All over the city
When: May 14th-May 20th

You wake up on the 14th, and something is different. Maybe it's something small - you can't smell anything, or your hearing on one side seems to be on the fritz. Or it could be something large and impossible to miss - you've gone completely blind, or you seem to be missing a leg. You've lost something, and no matter what you do, you can't seem to fix it.

Will you ever get it back? Probably, but it's impossible to be sure. And even if you're thoroughly convinced that this is temporary, that still means you have to figure out how to live like this for the next week. Even small things can be huge difficulties. Your sense of taste doesn't seem that important, until you accidentally eat something that'll make you sick. And sure, maybe you can figure out how to live without one hand, but what about when you wake up three days from now and you've also lost your magic?

Do your best to keep yourself calm, but remember: it can always get worse.

[ Okay, so Jo had seemed a bit out of sorts at the start of all this, but not enough to be alarming. Pell hadn't thought much of it until the night she didn't come home at all... he still didn't panic, at that, had just gone to his clinic shift and muddled through as best he could without his healing. It gets more difficult for him to accept by the day, and knowing that all this is temporary doesn't make it any less frightening. He needs to be good at something. Maybe some time in the garden will be a distraction? He swings back by the house for his tools and checks Jo's room... she's not there. George is home, and says she hasn't seen the other woman since dinner the night before last, and now Pell is going to give in to the worry. Surely Jo would have called someone if she was in trouble, but. It's been a day and a half, that's long enough to declare his sister missing. She's still on the phone's list, though, still in the city, so she's getting a message. ]

Jo, where are you? Answer me or I'm calling Henry and reporting a missing person. Please.

[Jo feels guilty as soon as she reads the post. She probably should have called him and George, but she's stubborn and prideful and didn't want to admit she couldn't figure out where the hell she was.]

I don't know where I am. I'm not hurt.

[ Okay. She's not hurt, that's good. Just lost? Hopefully still in the city proper, not somewhere out in the desert -- he'd really have no way to find her if she'd wandered off. It'd be a blind sweep in 360 degrees and he's really not suited to fight anything that's out there. ]

Turn on video and show me? I'll come get you.

[Jo doesn't even text back, switching to a video call to Pell with a sigh.]

I don't know. Somewhere in the shops.

[ Pell peers at the screen, trying to see if he recognizes her surroundings. He thinks she's down by the sewing shop, but doesn't see it specifically in view so he's not certain either. Oh well, it's a place to start. ]

I'm on my way. Have you just been wandering in circles for a whole day?

Little longer than that. [The other times she eventually got home, but that didn't happen this trip.]

Are you okay?

[ The background of his feed start moving as he heads out of the house to go find Jo. He sighs quietly at the question. ]

I'm making do. Luckily no one's come in with any serious injuries so human medical treatment has been enough. I'm ready to have my healing back, though, I'm not actually a doctor.

[Jo nods, glad to hear that no one has been in trouble yet.]

It will come back.

I know. I just have to wait it out.

[ He's quiet for a moment as he walks, scanning the area for her just in case but pretty sure he won't spot her until he hits the shops. ]

When's the last time you ate something? I can make dinner when we get back.

I had some cold canned veggies last night. [...At least, she's pretty sure they were veggies.]

I'll help.

Well, it's something. I'm almost at the shops, can you give me a better view of what's around you?

[She stands, turning the camera around show her surroundings more clearly.]

I'm not moving.

Good, we'd probably miss each other if you were.

[ And with the better view, he thinks he recognizes her location. Just down this way... it takes a few turns to find the exact spot but sure enough there's Jo, in the shadow of a clothing shop. His shoulders drop in relief and he cuts the feed, tucking his phone in his pocket as he approaches. ]

Jo.

[She relaxes when he gets close enough, looking him over quickly.]

Hey. Thanks for coming.

[ He's fine!!! And she seems alright, too, not injured at least. Hopefully she's managed to stay hydrated, all this time. He reaches into his bag and pulls out a water bottle, offering it to Jo and reaching up to push her hair out of her face. Check her eyes. ]

Always. Drink a bit, and we'll get you home. Do you feel well, besides the disorientation?

[She never goes anywhere without a bottle of water, but it ran out the night before. She takes the offered bottle and gulps half of it down as she tries to dodge Pell's hand. She fails in the end, but she looks fine. He shouldn't be worried.]

I'm a little sore from sleeping on the floor. [She's not used to it any more.]

[ Jo, behave, no dodging. Let him fuss a bit, he was very worried.

It's good to hear that sleeping on the floor was the worst thing she had to endure, though. Pell gives a little nod and then his focus shifts to getting her home and fed as soon as possible. ]

You'll be in your own bed tonight, at least. Let's get you back... I don't want to suggest you hole up until this all passes, but maybe it's safer? I'm not sure what we would have done if you wound up outside the city.

[Jo frowns, adjusting her bag on her shoulder.]

I could stick by buildings, I just couldn't follow the map. [Or recognize landmarks.]

We'll see. [She doesn't want to just sit at home. That's ridiculous.]

This time... things seem to be getting worse for people as the week goes on, you included. You found your way home before now.

[ But he doesn't want to sound controlling, so. It's up to her. He turns towards home, waiting for Jo to fall into step beside him. ]

At least say you'll call someone if you do get lost again? No one minds.

That was why I didn't call anyone. [She had managed before. She's stubborn and prideful.]

Neither of you should have to rescue me.

Jo... I know it's your pride as well to consider but which is worse for us? Taking a few minutes out of the day to find you, or worrying all night?

It's not a personal failing that the gods are affecting you. They affect everyone.

[Jo huffs, looking away for a few seconds. She's not good at letting other people take care of her, she's never been very good at it.]

I was hoping you would be busy.
