Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

He nodded in agreement. There were too few Guards to manage everything. "Besides, there are people here who are very capable. They don't wait for the Guard to suggest projects, they usually take them on of their own initiative, but they take suggestions, too."

"I'd love to see how you make a net, too, and any other equipment you know of for catching sea creatures." The more crafts they have as a group, the better!

"I think that Kate Galloway, Henry and Nick have agreed on using Guard HQ for a clinic space. They did set up an area for that here in HQ, shortly after we rebuilt the two centers close to one another." He glanced around and jerked a thumb in the direction of the door behind which was that very area. He hadn't actually checked it out yet, having had other things to do.

It seems so! [ Too far north for calm waters. ]

[ It seems they both have things to regret. And the luck to be surrounded by people who are willing to have compassion for their mistakes, even the most horrible ones. Curufin is grateful for that. ]

Daenerys is a courageous woman. Even experiencing such a loss, she was able to maintain calm and an intention to deal with the problem. I'm pleased to have met her under any circumstances!

Even if we are scattered, we'll still be able to gather together again, since we will soon be ready to set sail. Oh, speaking of sails. . . do you think you could make one? I'll give you the dimensions. I'm hoping you have enough fabric in your Sewing shop.

[Mokuba lifts his head up and blinks at this newcomer for a moment, coming out of his thoughts as he registers he just asked him a question.] Huh...? Oh. Yeah. [He adds in a light smile of reassurance.] I'm okay. Just thinking.

Little boxes that go up and down between floor? Motorized, of course. [ What a fascinating idea! ]

My dreams. Though we Elves don't draw such a sharp line between dreams of the night, dreams of the day, and visionary experience. For us, they're all on a continuum. Normally I have a great deal of control over these, and I can in fact make a vision and project it into another's mind. I don't do that under ordinary circumstances, and I would never do it without a person's consent. And I was, let us say, very surprised to find somebody inside my dream, fiddling around with the dream environment.

What did you lose, Alice?

[ Ossë had better!!! XD ]

[ Sigh. ] It would be just like Tyelpe to have gone off exploring. And it might just not occur to him to give us a call. You know how he is. Normally he's so thoughtful and the first thing he thinks of is how others might feel, bur once in a while he gets absorbed in what he's doing and then he's just as oblivious as you or I when we're absorbed.

[ And let him be all right, Maglor's dear nephew and Curufin's dear son! ]

Considering what's left of Nick's hand, Rey would have to say his cartography is impressive enough. He doesn't have the luxury of being able to maneuver his handiwork like Rey with her... 'reports' that she used to submit to the Guard. She was never fond of paperwork, anyway. The Speakeasy and just working on her own at least offers some level of autonomy without a paper trail to worry about.

"And even then, the Speakeasy needs to be stocked manually. The gods don't do shit for me here."

Which was the point. Rey wanted to run this place self-sufficiently, no exceptions.

There's something a little bit flattering about being the target of such aversion! But Curufin is still focused, and he doesn't let himself waste time being amused.

"If that voyage happens, and I expect it will, I'll be perfectly happy to share my findings with you when I return. No reason not to."

He is still standing, and now he lifts a hand in a farewell salute, since she seems intent upon leaving. "Enjoy your wanderings upon these islands."

East Island, June 2

[ Curufin and Margaery set sail in the boat that Curufin built, and for which Margaery sewed the sail. The boat coasts into the shallows and is quickly moored there. A shallow-draft Viking-style craft is good for this sort of use. Curufin goes ashore to scout the area out, and what do you know? -- there is Trafalgar Law busy catching fish! Curufin wades in and bounds up on the rocks. ]

Law! Good to see you.

( Still immeasurably better than a cave. But she will always be biased.

Kate catches his necklace as he bends down in that easy, far too familiar way she does, gently keeping him in place for another, more lingering kiss. )

... Suppose I can join you.

( It's said casually, but her expression is laced with a soft smile, something reserved only for him. )

[ THey can fish later and Maglor can try and charm some fish out of the water for him? ]

Ah! That is an innovation none of us had considered. But a bit too complicated for now, I think.

[ He nods ] If the material is good enough, it should be easy enough to melt down and reforge. Curufin or Celebrimbor would be the best to ask though - I fear I neglected much of my forge-studies. It never sang to me as it did to my brother or my nephew.

[ Hopefully he really is all right. Curufin's world was one in which there were a lot of orphans of war, and he was accustomed to finding them safe places to go. (Or as safe as any place was, in those days. ) ]

Are you here by yourself, or do you have family or friends? [ He nods at the robodragon. ] I see you are not entirely alone, since it seems you have a companion.

Aye that does seem like him - like all of us, at times. Perhaps I will call Nelyo and you can call Telpe?

Yeah. There's no need to go that far when a regular ship will do. I'll check with Curufin-ya, then.

[with a small smirk] I'm sure you have other skills instead. We can't all be jacks-of-all-trades, there's too many trades.

[he saw the announcement and chatted with several people about it, so Law isn't at all surprised at the approach of the boat. In fact, he watches it keenly as it comes up nearby, comparing it to everything he knows of ships - which isn't nearly as much as a shipwright, but he's seen things.]

Yo. How does it handle?

[it looks like a Giant-made craft, only...you know, not giant]

Are any of the monsters there?

[If only he had Harlan's magic, then he could be more useful]

Do you have your sword?

[Though he hates the idea of Margaery fighting, he'd rather she be armed than not]

"Yeah. From home. They're kind of the troublemakers, but everybody likes them." Came from their dad, of course. Luke had never been that way, but, well. Hermes was a lot of things so his children were too.

"I could do the math for the gambling, but they were always better at actually just doing it. They would probably have made a fortune by now. Or else started a water balloon fight. Or a prank war." It probably would have been a welcome distraction for all of a minute.

"Someone probably should. Hope might realize, but we'll need to start planning differently. The needs here are completely different than they are j a desert. Do we even still have a source of fresh water?"

[She is mindful of the blades, knowing that when someone is surprised, especially a person that she doesn't know, that they can react in various ways. Thankfully he doesn't aim one at her head, or anywhere else.

Her own purpose is to try to get back to the island where the rest of the Blues are, and fun isn't something that she's exactly looking for at the moment.]

Not on purpose.

[A few times by accident, sure, and more likely down a snow bank.]

You think the waters are good for surfing here?

"That we will," she agrees, rather than arguing the point. She knows that no, the Null do attack the people brought here through the Door, because they are the food source of their enemies.

She also simply doesn't care. There is nothing she personally has at stake. The conflict itself is exciting but this one has mostly run its course. Whatever gets her home fastest is the only thing she really wants. Anything beyond that - any pain and suffering she can inflict, from this slowly dying tree to the people she already has killed here, is just icing on the cake.

Kelson smiled, thinking of the younger crowd of squires and pages back home, some of who no doubt were troublemakers, although not in the same class as the two Hermes boy, and who most likely were having such tendencies stomped out of them as unbecoming. Still, maybe not typical boyish tendencies but well enough known. He missed it.

"Prank war?" Another unfamiliar term. "Balloon?"

Kelson sighed. He had hoped that such resources like fresh water would still be available, but he hadn't checked yet. "I'm unsure. I have not seen any yet."

"No, they probably wouldn't - but I imagine in a world without magic, even the simplest of things might put you far ahead of the rest. If nothing else, you could make easy gold simply by charging for whatever services you could provide."

No offer from her on teaching magic, though. It doesn't help that her knowledge was granted, without involving any actual study. She wouldn't know how to teach most of it even if she wanted to, and the few things she could teach, she has no interest in sharing with the others here. Well, except Hayden, but he has so far made a pretty terrible student, and most of her attempts at instructing him had little to do with magic so far.

Lucky for me, I've always liked sweater sets and knit skirts. I'll have an excuse to stock up, assuming the stores are nice and have any.

I'm going to have to make an entire new wardrobe for myself. Much of what I have isn't suited for this climate.
