Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[Kelson was definitely a teenage boy, and here even with his nagging longing for the woman he could never have, here he was more free from responsibilities. And women who wanted things from him. So, he noticed. ]

Most definitely not. I think some of the clothes people wear here is actually against the law in Gwynedd.

[ Maglor considers, trailing a hand in the waves idly ]

Not much point, I think. I can tell them to try over the communicators, just as easily. I'm not much good in the forge except to keep the fires going and beat out the metal! And that's terribly boring.

Yyyyup. See, now you get it.

[He spares a glance to the knives, but doesn't seem to be paying them much mind. Or well, as little mind as he can to let them do their thing.]

So not to like, sound like I'm into you or anything, but have I talked to you before? Feel like I know your voice from somewhere or whatever. You been on the network?

All right. Suit yourself.

[a moment of quiet lapses after that, which is always a good sign to Law that he needs to move on. Collecting his fishing apparatus, he gets up and gives the water a glance. Should he cheat and fling a few fish out? Nah, he's got enough and it's been enough of a waste of time.]

[As soon as he hears someone approach, one long ear flicks his direction, tilting his head up only as the question gets posed. He greets it with a smile, slick with a gleam in his eye.]

Uh, best thing in the world when you're stuck with a buncha waves and nothing to do. You rock 'em. I made my first board, and it's been like a hundred years but whatever, amirite?

[That was No description at all. Remarkable. Regardless, he chuckles, the knives continuing their work whether he seems to pay attention to them or not.]

Leo had been thinking much on the subject of eating recently. Thanks to his deal with Hope, he wasn't going to starve, but he also wasn't sure if that would be enough to keep him from losing control eventually. There was a difference between getting food and actively hunting. He rather missed doing the latter, especially when he was surrounded by sinners here.

"What, now?" When Seth just kept looking at him, he reluctantly got up, dragging his feet towards the door. He could fight with Seth on this, but he had a feeling he'd be talked into it in the end.

"It's definitely water. I wouldn't be like this if it was chocolate pudding out there." Now why couldn't the gods have sent them some place like that? It would be bizarre, but everyone would still be happy. No one could be unhappy with an ocean full of pudding outside their door.

Leo looks pleased at Curufin's response, smiling just a little bit. "I'm glad someone besides me sees it that way. Worlds are fragile things. One day everything's fine and the next complete chaos." That's how it had been for Leo's world. Verity had been a quiet little territory. Then one day monsters had come through the cracks created by the wickedness of men and things had never been the same.

Leo has never known what a truly normal world would look like. Every one he's been to has been just as full of sin like the first. It's colored his personality to an unhealthy degree. He can come very cold and self-righteous at times, but others, there's a little bit of humanity left to him.

"Call me Leo Flynn."

[Leo watches the pointy-eared...well, is it a man, or is there a different term for what he is? Plenty of people look human without actually being so, Leo included, and is that quip about a hundred years literal? He'll have to find a way to ask without it devolving into what usually ends up coming out as insults.]

A board. For the water. [He says this very flatly. Sounds fake but okay.] To each their own, I guess.

[Some people actually like the water for reasons that Leo will never be able to fathom.]

Pass. I have no intention of going anywhere near the water for as long as I can.

Ai! Tis not that bad, Margaery. I promise - there's nothing quite like a roast fish with some herbs.

With the fish? [ Maglor startles, and looks apologetic ]

Forgive me, Law - I had forgotten. I can try and coax a few up for you, if you want.

Curufin nods. "Worlds are fragile, indeed. We think our feet are resting on solid ground, but no! -- it isn't like that at all. I believe that it is never like that." Chaos always bursts upon the world and monsters always come through the cracks.

Sin and humanness, the double concerns of all who have the sense to be concerned. Strangely, the Sunai and the Fëanorian Elf have something in common, though their journeys have been different.

"Pleased to meet you, Leo Flynn." In Curufin's world, the formal greeting upon meeting for the first time requires given name and surname. After that, he'll be less formal. "Have you been in Hadriel long? Even though it is a small place, I have not yet met everyone."

Well, I'm an Elf of the First Age. We're pretty durable, and that includes being hard to poison. If it was a fish toxin, I may have just sloughed its effects off.

[ Good thing for Hadriel! Someday the gods might decide to poison the residents just to see what kind of emotions might be evoked from such a sickness. Law might be desperately needed. ]

I see. What sizes, then? Do you mean, the sizes of swordfish, tuna, dolphins, whales?

It's not necessary. I can do the same if I really want to.

[but there's no need. Even with fridges and freezers having power again, it seems excessive to just load up on fish. He'll live.]

[It sure is. Taako takes a moment to make a too obvious up and down look at him to size him up before speaking again.]

Well, what're you good at? We talkin' items, favors, services?

[He purrs out that last word, holding the s on his tongue with a grin.]

Especially here. For all we know, it's water all the way through the planet.

[Which should really not be scientifically possible, but given the weird magic of the gods and everything they've faced here, Adam would not be so terribly surprised to discover that was true.]

Did anyone ever find out? Where the water went, I mean?

[Drained from the bottom somehow, Adam would guess, but he has a scientific mind. After everything, he knows that's not how it always is. He's sure Alphys knows plenty of things that he doesn't, too.

He sort of misses school.]

"I have heard that the Door has the ability to limit such powers. There are those here who normal could do such things as teleport or travel between worlds, but they also cannot go beyond the Door."

A hand rubs over his bearded chin in thought.

"Have you ever encountered such a thing in your world? Something that can curtail powers so dramatically?"

[imhisaunt]

Well you must have people and things you want to find too....I'd be distracting ya.

I'm afraid we do have some of those beasts here but don't you worry, I'll be careful.

[Delmar learned his lesson about running into danger when the Null invaded]

Is there anyone else you know with you? Any of your friends?

"On a smaller scale, curses may alter someone's abilities, but only for the particular individual who has been affected by that curse. On this scale? No things, but certain powerful individuals can hold such power over travel to and from, or within, their own domains."

Actually, Caedra realizes she's very familiar with a specific example, but she hadn't thought of it in this light until Semiyon brought it up so helpfully.

"My home, for example. Anyone wishing to travel to the domain in which I reside will end up within a certain large domed cage outside the City of Rust, regardless of where they wanted to go. Once there, they are trapped there until they are released by the guard."

It is. Every now and then, we'd have fish at King's Landing and it was always awful. Slimy and it had this grey substance on it I didn't like the looks of.

[Friends, it was an interesting concept, and harder by nature, for someone of higher station. You could be friends with someone lower than you, but there was always that hanging over. Morgan was more like family, like a father, he had been his fathers friend and right hand and now Kelson's. But that was a different kind of friendship. The only contemporary he really had besides Dhugal was that 10 year old boy-king. Maybe he could make that happen when he got back. It would be nice to have another king as a friend.]

Are we really?
