Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

It's perhaps unfortunate for others that Ignis has no intentions of making himself a ferryman between the islands, when those people competent in sailing are likely in short supply. He has other things to do, and that does not rank very highly in his priorities.

"Mm, no," he replies with barely a moment of thought. It's a lie, but he and Curufin are certainly not close enough for him to delve to that level of openness. "We'll find a way around things soon enough. I don't believe many here are the kind to sit back and do nothing."

Definitely.

[ But he stays a good distance away, unable to help a flush rising on his cheeks. Hot springs means water means possibly naked friend, and he's not about to be a pervert and stare, which is why he keeps his gaze fixated firmly somewhere above her head.

He's a prince, not a creep, okay. ]

Um -- sorry. Should I go? I can come back later.

I know.

( Quiet, until they get to the shore, Kate clambering along some of the rocks until she has a good enough vantage of the ocean stretching out from the island.

And it's one of the few times she'll be taller than Ignis. For a minute or two, anyway, she's sure. There's enough room for two on this edge.

She doesn't speak again until he's found a place to stand, her arms folded around herself as she watches the choppy sea break against the shore. )

You really thought about swimming this?

( There's no accusation to her tone when she asks, eyes never leaving the water. )

[He doesn't need her to say anything else. 'I know' translates easily enough to 'I love you, too' and it isn't pressed as they walk, or as he keeps a gentle hold of her hand until she pulls it free to climb higher up the rocks. The difference in height doesn't last long as he follows her up, finding a steady place to balance beside her.

Though her tone doesn't hold the potential for argument, he still glances sidelong at her before he replies.]

Of course. [And so had Noctis.] Very seriously.

...that does sound nice. We could have a campfire and sing songs and tell tales and perhaps--weather permitting--sleep under the stars.

( For all the things she can do, swimming has never been one of them. The sensation causes tingling discomfort in her limbs that Kate doesn't know how to explain. Only that it's there. But even so, she doesn't think she's wrong in calling such an idea dangerous.

Lips purse together at his response. Of course. As if it would be anything else. His devotion to Noctis has never been a question - she lets him go when he needs to go, hides things she thinks need hiding so he can help his friend, his prince. Whatever the best description is.

But until now, that had never involved the very real possibility of him being injured or worse.

The even tone of her voice doesn't last long. )

That's insane.

I'm sure it seems that way to you.

[He tries very hard to keep any irritation out of his voice. This is not something that he wants to get into another argument over, but she must know already that the issue of Noctis and how far Ignis will go to protect him is a somewhat tender one.

His reply comes a little stiffly, as much due to the fact that he rarely talks about this aspect of his life as it is to the fact that he is so rarely challenged on it.]

I would give anything, up to and including my life, to ensure Noctis' safety. He doesn't like the idea, and I don't expect that you will, but it isn't a matter that is up for debate.

[And when Noct might be in danger, he doesn't think clearly. That is a little more difficult to admit.]

Thank you Curufin. Would it be helpful in the future to build some sort of docks on each island?

Yes, that is quite true. Some may understand a little, those who work closely with you, but not completely.

[Some things only those who have worn a crown understand, those who have had to make such decisions that end or start.]

No. Although they try. Sometimes.

[Margaery never had anyone who really tried. she had to keep up the pretense that everything was fine with her Tyrell cousins and her other ladies. she was left with an unsatisfactory marriage and the strain of her conflicts with Cersei all on her own]

"Not bad," Sonya nearly reached to give her a hand up, but pulled away soon as she was on her feet. "Always expect an attack from below as well as above, and keep light on your feet."

She blocks the attack and returns it with one of her own, twisting to aim a similar attack at her shoulder (the highest point of the body allowed in sparing. "And never make a move obvious-bluff an attack or block, always try to think several steps a head."

In the time they spared, Margery would notice that she never attacked at once. Soon as one attack landed or blocked, she immediately followed up with another.

[ He eyes the sky thoughtfully ]

We should have decent weather for that, I think. For the next few days, at the least.

Did you just call Wizard of Oz a "so-so" movie? [Wow. It's like she doesn't even know George.]

That's where the rest of us come in.

( Well... there is that. But Noctis keeps his eyes lifted and she's sunk well under the water. All the steam is certainly doing its bit to keep her obscured. So, with careful movements, Serah shifts back in the spring a little, shaking her head. )

It's okay. You can come in.

( They can figure out getting out of the springs later. )

( She fixes her eyes on him, tears them away from the sea, the response immediate: )

That's not the point.

( She doesn't like the idea, it's true. How could she possibly? But she understands it down to her bones, to the very fibres of her being. She doesn't have to know Noctis to know how much he means to Ignis, or that Ignis would gladly give his life to save him, and there's a promise lingering in the deepest recesses of her heart which says she'll let him go to do what needs to be done. The same promise that kept her mouth shut when Fear pulled her sight from her, because Ignis had other things to concentrate on.

But it isn't the prospect of him giving up his life that has her pushing the topic. )

You can't keep him safe if you die on the way.

( She's statue still, not even blinking as she speaks, voice even and words slow. That's the point. It was a reckless idea. )

You didn't even know where he was. It wouldn't've helped.

Is it not? You're a fine one to speak so ill of recklessness, Kate.

[He answers evenly. The only thing that keeps him from snapping it out is that she's stood right there, and they've already had this argument once before. But is he wrong? Has she not demonstrated similar levels of disregard for her own life, to now be standing there remonstrating with him for doing the same thing?

The breeze off the sea whips around them, tugging strands of hair free from only semi-careful styling to fall over his forehead.]

The level of danger to myself barely even occurred to me. [He had known where Noctis was, thanks to the GPS, and the direction was all he would have needed.

He'd do it here, and he'll do it again, before he gives up far more for his friend's sake.]

THAT DOESN'T EVEN FUCKIN' MAKE SENSE.

[Because that's acknowledging that their whole universe is aware that they're a bullshit ren faire universe, which would mean acknowledging that there are non-ren faire universes out there? That's too meta for Gren, my dudes. The fourth wall can only withstand so much weight.]

[ ~~Curvo says the only thing he wants with that wretched Silmaril is to smash it with a sledge-hammer!~~ ]

Of course I did. Those jewels were tasty and interesting. Oh, but the explanation is as much fun as the experience! [ Grin. ]

[ No argument from him on this! ] We are bound to have high winds at sea, sooner or later.

[ And he smiles and starts gathering up the fabric to return it to Margaery's shop. ]

I'm glad you have had only good experiences with people here. And this Carolina, she must have been able to fly! Good for her, it will stand her and others in good stead in this island world.

They all must have their priorities, or the work of maintaining the community would never get done.

He smiles. "Indeed, we seem to be a whole city full of restless, accomplishing sorts of people. And I was thinking, if we stay on this planet long enough, we might be thinking of building bridges between the islands. It would be a very time-consuming project, however. I do not know whether it would be worth the effort, if Fear is going to pick us up and move us again."

Just off the top of his head, seeking common ground: "Have you spoken to my brother Maglor lately?" He knows they are friends. Maglor has mentioned him with respect.

[Kelson had that advantage, he was surrounded by a good support system. His father and grandfather had provided well, even if his mother had tried to wreck it. Kelson had people who were dukes and earls in their own rights, governed on smaller scales and had acted as advisors to his own father. Maybe it would have been easier if he had talked more about it all with his father when he still had the chance. But, what thirteen year old wants to think that his father would be murdered after twenty five years of peace?]

They do. If they're good advisors, and understand. Were your council members not up to the task?

[she applauds with delight]

Really? Oh, that's wonderful? Did you know, I've never slept under the stars before? At Renly's camp, we all had very large and luxurious tents.

Indeed. It's best to be ready for any eventuality.

[she gathers up an armload as well and heads for the Shop]

Margaery takes Sonya's hand and gets back on her feet. She nods in acknowledgement of Sonya's words. She's always been light on her feet, it's part of what made her such a skilled dancer at court.

She blocks the attack coming at her shoulder and fakes a blow to Sonya's side while moving to sweep her feet out from under her.

Margaery has noticed and is trying to respond in kind. She's still relatively new at this, but she's always been clever and a quick study.
