Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

► This log covers May 27th-June 10th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you drown or get eaten by an alien shark, let us know here.

Whatever her capabilities, it is good she was there for you! And the Colosseum is a dangerous place. You never know from month to month what kinds of creatures will be pulled in along with the new Hadrielites. Sometimes the monsters are more annoying than dangerous, but mostly, they're deadly. If you ever do go there again, get some weapons training first, and of course a weapon.

It would be very helpful. I don't mind jumping out of the boat and splashing through the shallow water, but it would be very nice if our passengers didn't have to do that. Docks would be very good.

[ That's all right, Law can keep his secrets. But if he decides to divulge any of them, he'll find a very discreet confidant in Curufin. ]

I see. You want a ship that can voyage into rough seas, that is big enough and sturdy enough to handle a journey of indefinite length, and so must carry a lot of food and water and be prepared to bring back some hefty cargo, possibly. I think such a ship can still be made from the wood in this forest.

And I would love to make such a voyage. Sorrow did say something about artifacts and information. I want to know about the Door as much as anyone does.

Clearly he must have inherited it from his mother!

[ He can? Really?

Noctis is uncertain for a moment, because he honestly really would be okay leaving if she asks. But then she tells him that it's fine, and so he tentatively undresses, putting his clothes neatly and gets in on the farthest side of the pool.

So... you know, decency. ]

Okay.

"You doubt me?" he quipped in response to being asked where to find a plane. Seth might not have ever said right out that he was a thief but there were enough conversations to allude to it. Or maybe it had been directly admitted to. The only thing on his mind at the moment was how to not let Leo die.

He hadn't missed the kid threatening to punch in his face. If he did, he did. It wouldn't be the first or the last that someone in the role of a sibling throttled him. However, Seth mostly didn't worry about it because he doubted it happening. There was no way he'd let Leo drown. Period.

Yet there would be no talk of that as they neared the water's edge. "What, you think you're the only one around with a fear of water? Shit's been around for as long as life's existed. I'm sure if there isn't already a plane around, one's in the works. But I've got a feelin' there's already one. Just a matter of lookin' for it."

There would be a catch, Seth was sure of that. An airplane was used for travel and if so called gods brought them here for their use then escape wouldn't be as simple as hopping in a plane and taking off. They'd no doubt at least allow one around to prevent losing a creature they obviously needed or wouldn't have brought here.

"It's better that way," Nick murmurs to himself, knowing that autonomy was a major factor for Rey going into the Speakeasy business. After some of the stunts the gods have pulled with the food and drinks in the past, he doesn't blame her for one second for wanting to keep as much in her hands as possible.

"Speaking of the gods, we might have to ask about a bridge or two. Maybe bring it up with Tranquility."

I've always done my own carpentry, so I haven't had much occasion to ask. But I can check my phone archives and see who else worked on some joint projects that I was involved in. And just off the top of my head, Seel har Parasiel worked on the Firehouse with me and on some other construction as well.

Splendid. I'm sure this would go faster with more than one or two individuals. Perhaps you could reach out to this Seel har Parasiel and the others in your archives?

Exactly. But to build a ship like that might strip most of the forest and take time. Not to mention an expert shipwright who knows their way around a brig sloop - or larger.

With any luck, Curufin will be able to get the ship made and I'll be able to stitch the sail together before the weather changes. And we can have our night under the stars.

( She bristles, but says nothing to that, though it'd be so easy for her to point out that her recklessness manifests when people are in immediate danger. Not hypothetical.

(She'd also be wrong, but no one ever said Kate was good at self-reflection.)

She doesn't move, even as the wind picks up, except for a brief flicker in her expression, something breaking through the stony, emotionless facade placed up.
)

Course it didn't.

( In all the time she's known him, she's seen nothing to indicate that he would consider the danger to himself in most scenarios. When that quality is levelled towards invading Null or other monsters, when she's nearby to help out, it isn't so bad. It's one she's glad to have on her side then.

When it's pressed against the forces of nature simply because he's separated from Noctis, it wraps thick around her throat, clinging terribly to her, making it hard to breathe.

[It's an easier conversation to have in person. Less of a fight, more of a clash in reasoning and judgment. That she doesn't argue his first statement speaks for itself. That would have been a different debate, and one easily won by a few choice anecdotes. Kate will never be a poster child for reasonable decisions in the face of danger.

Standing next to her, he feels the silence pressed between them in a way that doesn't often occur. His fingers find hers, lightly brushing the backs of them, testing for a response before he thinks to take her hand.

He's fine, Kate is fine, and Noctis is fine. But he knows that isn't what's troubling her now.

( There is nothing unreasonable about jumping on a dragon's back what do you mean?

Her arms unwind from around herself as his fingers brush against her arm and seek out her hand, grasping his hand almost immediately and firmly enough that it's almost as though she's trying to keep him from floating away in the increasing gale.

The silence is thick, but it's more comfortable than trying to say anything.

"Exactly. Probably not what anyone really wants to bring home, but it might not be so bad," she says, then pauses a moment in thought before nodding at her own suggestion. Yes, of course she's right.

"And if that world can't, then the next one will, once the Null are weakened. They're only one race, after all, and they can't survive a war of attrition against a multiverse. Are they magical in any way, the Null? Do you know?" She assumes not, with how everyone describes them, but a construct that has some sort of innate ability fused into it isn't unheard of.

[How very gay of Alphys to hone exactly in on that part of it.]

Yeah, but even when we get a giant bridge or whatever crossing between islands, that doesn't mean we still can't make a sleepover night at the lab on the reg. C'mon, Alphy, just us girls.

The flat look Leo gave Seth should have told him exactly what kind of doubts he was thinking. It wasn't like he didn't think Seth could find a plane if he really wanted to. It was just the means of how such a thing was going to occur that he was a little skeptical about.

Still, a plane would solve a lot of problems in getting to the other islands. He was going to eventually need to visit Hope's temple after all to get the souls he needed to survive.

Leo took off his shoes, setting them farther up on the shoreline when they reached the beach. He stopped as soon as he reached the water's edge. He was going to need some pushing and shoving to get him to go further in. "Most people can at least dog paddle to float instead of sinking like a literal rock." He looked a touch like an unhappy cat faced with a bathtub.

[That's the only use for a shirt during island time. Anything else is should be illegal.]

I have to get back into beach Magnus mode. Gotta go around and keep everyone on their toes.

[Because sneaking up to people and screaming "MAGNUS" is "keeping everyone on their toes.]

Maybe. If he does we'll just have to find new and exciting ways to get rid of them.

That sounds awfully close to the idea of sacrificing an entire world to weaken the Null, but he'll ignore that for now.

"They don't have magic, no. They have laser cutters and devices that make your brain melt out of your ears, but nothing supernatural. They do have a weapon that can affect things like the gods, and spirits, stuff like that. So they're definitely aware of it? But they didn't use any spells."

[Well, good news Elena, you get your best wish. Taako's grin goes wide, sticking his tongue out a bit.]

You got me. Wouldn't even be the first-- I made my own board last time I got stuck in a beach zone, though that one was much less cold and rocky. Still, I can work with this. Wood's not the best but fuck asking the liches up top for anything.

Look, mortal worlds and their civilizations are cheap and plentiful. Nothing more than pools of resources to drain, burn, or sell. It usually happens at a level well above her, though, even if she speaks as if she's very involved and knows so much about how these things are managed.

"Well, then that makes them very limited, doesn't it? Put them against enough well-prepared war casters, and handling them should be trivial. If our jailers would simply lend themselves toward cooperation, this would all have ended long ago."
