Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

Delmar looks down at his feet shyly when he realizes belatedly the implications of what he'd said. "I'm sorry. S-sometimes I talk too much....I just....say things...."

James used to get upset with him for that. Saying stupid things.

"Why don't you tell me something about yourself, Jet?"

Smoothest transition ever.

Delmar might falter away from what he was saying but Jet doesn't forget it. It's noted, but set to one side since the man seems to be uncomfortable with taking it any further than that. Perhaps later.

"About me?" Said with the air of someone either unused to talking about himself, or so used to those around him knowing so much that they don't need to ask. "Mm. I'm twenty-five, been called Jet Star since I was sixteen." He pauses, then smiles. "Sometimes I just say things, too. Don't think that the things you say don't matter. It's from you, it's from what makes you, and that's important."

Curufin turns his head and tilts his face towards Ignis as the other Guard stands behind him to study the drawings.

"I agree, we should go and take a look at the coastline features and any possible pier sites. We'll have to decide between sites on the seaward side of each island and sites on the shores of the sound between the isles. The second, of course, has the advantage of shelter from the driving force of open-ocean waves. The feasibility of the seaward shores also depends on the direction of the prevailing winds on this part of the planet. I'll be finished with the boat in a few days. Scouting these possible sites will be a priority. Want to make a separate voyage with me just for this purpose, sometime in the next two weeks?"

He pulls another sheet out of the stack. "I've started my list of skilled workers and other possible contributers. I'll get in touch with them and also cast about for others who might be skilled and available."

Though is it a surprise to anyone at the way the elf's eyes light up a little at the mention of space outlaws? Get outta here, Mew Mew, Lup has outlaw fantasies to live out through anime.]

[They specialize in being double the trouble, honestly. May their reign never be toppled. He flips some hair over his shoulder, looks back to the knives doing their work and checks in close at their progress.]

Well, guess I got at least one laugh out of ya. I'll uh, have to take that as a win. At least you're meeting the better twin now, so you don't have to feel so, uh, so out of it.

[He snaps his fingers at him in a little fingergun.]

I'm the best elf there is, my man. You don't want all that uptight shit, do you? Hell, I'm magic. And I threw that hella date for you that one time. What's not to love?

She chuckles.

"Oh, that is no concern for me. I do not feel pain -- or anything, really."

Which is a more depressing reality than Ravine makes it out to be. Sensations are for the living, of which she is not.

[Which, for most people, would probably be bad advice, except that apparently Wade was into that? So it somehow was bad advice that looped around until it was good advice.]

[Taako vacillates wildly between dispensing surprisingly good advice and startlingly bad advice. The trick is figuring out which is which.]

[She giggles, feeling a flush across her cheeks as she puts her hands to her mouth.]

Well, I mean-- s-same! I'm glad I've gotten to meet so many interesting people, and especially humans. I always wanted to meet humans, and, I mean... it hasn't always gone well. But I have so many human friends now! It's so nice.

[Just having friends is nice, really, but we're not gonna go there right now.]

It's been an adventure, uhm, either way.

"A good thing, I guess. I'm not normally a fan of deals with the gods, but sometimes it's necessary. Did you have to pay the god? Usually these gifts of the gods are not free."

He listens gravely to Leo's description of what happens in the case of no sustenance at all. "This going dark sounds like a fairly dire event. Hunger truly is a driving force in your psyche, then." Leo's description of his dark self does sound a bit familiar to Curufin. The Balrogs had a different kind of hunger, but their appearance was fairly similar.

Well, there's a demon named Caedra. Her powers were diminished by the gods after she slew a friend of mine, Margaery Tyrell. Caedra has been playing it smooth since then, but if there is another murder in Hadriel, she'd be the first person I'd suspect of having committed it.

[Kate is frustrating. She's contrary and infuriating, argumentative and sometimes so blind to the thoughts of others that it's close to baffling, but she wouldn't be nearly as fascinating a person to him if the ways their personalities meshed didn't occasionally cause conflict.

She leans into him and he tucks his chin against the top of her head. It's the kind of silence he could sink into and never come out of again. Comfortable and warm, and so very safe it could easily be dangerous.]

I don't know why you keep asking that of me. [He murmurs softly, the words coming out almost on a sigh. The honesty behind her words is real, but she's said it before.

'I have capacity enough to worry about the both of you.']

You know it's a request that I'm always going to refuse.

"The nature of the coastline also needs some consideration..." Ignis hums softly, shifting a few pieces of paper until he comes across a map. It's only of this island, but it will more than suffice.

"The sand and smaller debris collects in the coves here, and here," he says, indicating the bays on the north and south of the island. "The sea would be calmer there, but I would be wary of any moorings being less stable in the long term."

A soft breath leaves him, but there's a certain brightness in his eyes and his demeanour on the whole that speaks volumes of just how good it feels to be doing something constructive.

"And of course, I'd be happy to join you."

"Agreed, the coves are off the list. That leaves all the gently curved stretches of coast where the sand will just sweep on by and deposit elsewhere. I'm sure we'll have plenty of good choices. And we could take some soundings while we're taking a look. It would be nice to have a rudimentary map of the channel depths and the drop-off on the open ocean sides of the islands."

Curufin notes the change in the atmosphere and is glad. His own eyes brighten and he smiles a little.

"All right. Let's plan on it."
