Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

I guess I should head back before my friend does anything dangerous like... jump into the ocean.

[That sentence immediately turns into a yell once they've landed, Alphys' eyes going wide as she looks around fervently. Funnily enough, it's not the first time she's been teleported- Sans' "shortcuts" were always a little more dizzying, but it's the same effect. Still, though, Sans usually gave her some warning. Her grip is tighter on Lup's hand even after they've landed, wheezing slightly as she looks up at the other woman.]

Ohmygosh. You-- You do that too. Ohhhhmygod, okay! I mean!!! Okay!!!

[SHE IS HERE NOW SO, SURE, OKAY]

In your good hands, huh?

[Those words sound almost like a purr, because gosh, he just can't resist with this.]

I think I can whip up another one of these for a couple of good meals. Provided you really impress me.

[He just laughs.]

Sorry to say is right, babe. But I totally did. Spent a year on an island beach paradise and I was the first person to surf there ever. Invented it in at least 20 worlds. Chhhheckmate.

Wait, you have to pay for college? [Jo laughs.]

You aren't fixing them already?

[She giggles, giving him a little wave.]

G-Go on, then. I'll see you around the Lab soon?

[She leaves it on that upswing. A little hope. Something she can do against the darkness.]

Yeah, that's usually the way it works. Unfortunately. [she also laughs]

I am, but it's not like I've done surgery or anything.

[Jo actually ended up with a scholarship for her year of college. She got lucky.]

You want to do surgery?

[toiletseat_girl]

[George got a discount rate since her father was a tenured professor at UDub]

Eventually, yeah. Though, I think being an ER doctor would be better. More of what I'm used to.

[He smiles at her, genuine and something like happy, or as close as he can sometimes get here.]

Yeah. I'm gonna make some time to come by. I'll see you soon for sure.

[C'mon, Alphys. It's just so much better without notice! It's like, a fun surprise. Right? Right???

While Alphys looks more than a little taken back by the spell, Lup's expression is full knife cat. This is her greatest accomplishment.]

Can't believe you ever doubted me, chickadee. Haven't we been through enough together? [And while Alphys flails a little, Lup's just gonna plop down onto the nearby couch, right on her back, legs kicked up against the chair arms.]

Haven't I proven myself as a Grade-A, bomb-ass wizard yet?

It shouldn't have been any surprise that Leo doubted him, regardless of how determined Seth was to prove the young monster wrong.

"Fine! Run back with your tail between your legs! Don't even bother to see if anyone can help you, or think about what it'll do to me and Margo if water comes up and we haven't figured out shit about how t'save you!" he barked back.

Leo went in one direction, Seth faced the other. He refused to watch his surrogate brother quit. It shouldn't have stung the way it did. He was used to being quit on, even by flesh and blood. Seth folded his arms over his chest and looked out over the water.

[That sounds great. Maybe.]

Chaos, you mean.

[toiletseat_girl]

[she raises her eyebrows at her]

Exactly. If I could handle the Null invasion bullshit, your average ER should be a piece of cake.

[storyseeker]

Buuuuut that wasn't our world. I'm, like, ninety-nine percent sure. [Elena grins.] Looks like you might have competition. Another version of the inventor of surfing. Maybe they even did it better.

[sciencelizard]

[She smiles, and waves as he starts to leave.]

Okay! See you then!

[And she continues on the shoreline, more excited for the future.]

[She just wheezes a bit, substituting Lup's hand for the chair arm to steady herself, and then just slumping with her forhead pressed against it for balance.]

I knew that, I, I always knew that, you just, y-you're... surprising.

[Let's go with that. Sure. After a few moments, she tries to steady herself.]

People in my world don't just-- just do that, you know. I only knew one person who could do stuff like that, e-ever.

Will you be spending more time at the clinic? [It would be more of a headstart, right?]

You're really gonna stand there and say someone could do something better than me. Taako. As if.

[He gives her a little wink.]

Besides, no one else has been doin' it here. Sooo let's go ahead and make that 21 worlds, natch.

[toiletseat_girl]

That's the plan. I wanna learn as much as I can ahead of time, so I can ace all of my college courses. [because she is all about getting through college as quickly as possible]

[Surprising she'll take. Surprising is appropriate.]

Natch. [But the smile Lup sends Alphys' way, sharp and toothy and so so teasing, softens just a little to reveal just a touch of affection behind it. It's strange to think they've been friends for nearly a year now. Time in this place is just flying by.]

Well, now you know a couple of 'em, Taako an' Barry an' I. And any one of us would be happy to use up a spellslot or two to help you out, Alphy. You're a family friend.

[storyseeker]

[She winks back.]

Then you've got something to prove, buddy. I better see you hanging ten in short order.

Too bad time worked doesn't count for college credit.

Fuck, I know. I'd be able to knock a year off college, easy. I'm gonna need so many grants and so many student loans, I'll be paying 'em off for fifty years.

[sciencelizard]

[She tries to formulate a proper response to that, but all that comes out is 'gggggghhhhhhhh' and her face getting progressively redder.]

Well! If you, uh, ever need some tech. Stuff! Done. I'll be there! With my, uhm, screwdrivers. And things.

[It feels-- silly, up against everything else they can do and she can't. But she's trying.]
