Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

"Well, fuck."

She got her wish for the oceanic setting, apparently. There was just one hang-up; the shift happened when she was on the other side of Hadriel, away from home. The city had arrived intact before, so she had no reason to think that would change. But now, she's staring across the water at the island which contains her home and no way to reach it.

At least she's not alone. Glancing over at Barkspawn, who whines, she pats him. "Eh, it could be worse. We have the orchard and hot springs with us, after all. Besides, we can check on the others...."

Pulling out her phone, she paces back and forth while making a call that, while technically private to housemates, can still be overheard to anyone nearby.

Later on, the dwarf and her dog can be spotted under a tree in the orchard while they have an unexpected picnic. Or perhaps they're found while Aren is sliding into the warm waters of a spring, sighing in contentment and taking a moment of pleasure in this upheaval. Either way, she doesn't seem too stressed about the circumstances.

[Laura picks up the phone the second she sees it's from Aren. she's trapped on the South Island at the Speakeasy, so she won't be getting home anytime soon]

Hey, Aren. Where'd you end up?

[Sigh of relief.]

The east island, so it's the hot springs and orchard for me. Barkspawn's here, too. Say hi, boy.

[He eagerly barks in the background.]

What about you, are you somewhere safe?

At least you've got the hot springs? And, hi Barkspawn.

[Laura giggles a little]

I guess so. I'm nowhere near home, though, so I'm probably gonna have to sleep at the Speakeasy.

I've done that before. It's not a bad place to crash; you have booze, bathrooms and comfy booths.

I'll probably just sleep at the orchard, for now. There are a couple of temples around, but I don't want to use them unless I have to.

You've got some very good points there.

In the orchard? What are you gonna do if it rains?

Eh, a little rain won't hurt me, especially if the branches block most of it. But if it starts getting miserable out here then I'll find some shelter.

You better. You get sick and I'm figuring out a way to drag your ass to the Clinic, even if I have to hitch a ride on someone else's boat. Assuming we get any.

We'd better, or this whole move is a waste of time. Why let us decide when they didn't even tell us the city wouldn't arrive intact?

Because the gods are dicks, that's why. They probably knew we wouldn't all fit on one island, they just didn't bother telling us.

And yet, all the other options sucked. Freezing our asses off or melting away in a jungle? Ugh.

You've got a point. I guess we'll get used to this. It's not like we've got much choice, right?

[paragonbrosca]

Yeah, but it won't be so bad as long as we get those boats. We might not have anywhere to hide from the Null, but they won't have anywhere to hide from us.

..they don't swim, right?

[outofthefire]

[she groans] Let's hope not. If the Null found us here, like this, we'd be sitting ducks.

[paragonbrosca]

It'd better not come to that, but maybe we're worrying over nothing. I'll try to get back to 'our' island as soon as I can get a boat. Do the same, okay?

Maybe. After all, the god who told us about these places we could go said that the Null probably wouldn't check this world. Too much water. And I get what he meant by that.

I will. With any luck, the boats will come fast. Which probably means that we're stuck where we're at for the next few weeks.
